My Desert Island Smokin’ Hot Blues Album

There’s a long-running BBC program (which I’ve sadly never had time to listen to) in which the generally famous guests are asked to provide the music they’d want with them if deserted on an island, and the host plays the selections and discussions ensue.

Anyway, were I chosen for the program, my selections would include this relatively short 3-song gem: Brian May’s Star Fleet Project. It’s basically a jam session with the likes of Eddie Van Halen, the drummer from REO Speedwagon, and various other rock session greats.

There are all sorts of classic blues albums, and I’d have more than one on my island sojourn, but I think “Blues Breaker” is pretty much the ne plus ultra of blistering hot blues rock instrumentals, done by masters. Crank it.

“Let Me Out” is pretty damned good as well.

And then there’s “Star Fleet,” which although not really blues, is very cool — and I still think it should be licensed for use in the possible new Star Trek TV series, even though it’s actually inspired by a Japanese puppet show, as shown on British TV. Try the thirty seconds following 3:32 for a cool set of licks..

Enjoy!

What’s your desert island blues album?

Hmm. My first comment didn’t work.

I would cheat and choosing Peter Green’s “Anthology” or “The Essential Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac”.
