We’re all gonna die!!!1!eleven

The snowpocalypse of Thanksgiving 2010 is upon the PacNW.

Thankfully, I’m getting to spend the night with The Wife (my employer called and told me to stay home). And seeing as how Tacoma City Light cannot keep the lights on this is a good thing.

Thankfully, I can now blog from my phone.

Unfortunately, our good man Scott is stuck at our place of employ and may not make it out of there tonight. So if you can read this, wish him luck.

I wish my employer had called and said stay home! 🙂 But at least I got to work (downtown Portland) safe, and my commute only took a little more than twice as long as usual. I just hope the roads aren’t insane tomorrow; gotta take the teen to Dr & dentist appointments!

Temp here a little further north (just east of Seattle) is 16 degrees. About 4″ of snow. Faucets covered, all hoses drained. New tired on the van. Almost all regional school districts are closed as of last night. All Turkey-day shopping is done. No power fluctuations here. All-in-all, local life is good :-).

Not-so-locally, it’ll be interesting to see what that Korea thing turns into…..

The windstorm before the freeze started blew up a transformer close enough to shake my workshop, and blink the lights, but before I could switch in my backup power, the current was steady again.

Got wet and cold putting the steel studs on the Little Black Truck yesterday, but a toddy warmed me up quickly.

All is frozen solid this morning 15 miles East of Portland, 22 degrees, but the LBT, parked on the level out back so I can gain momentum before having to take on my 8% hill road, started promptly. I’d treated it to a tank of premium gas yesterday as I filled my last empty propane jug.

First boots I jumped into this am are a no-go, uninsulated combat boots, I will have to dig out the winter combat boots and grease them up. Project for the rest of the morning. Geezer feet don’t hold their circulation well, and get cold quickly. I might have to go all the way up to mukluks, which seems absurd above zero….

  4. Remember where I grew up. This whole area is just freaking bonkers when it comes to snow. And the inability of Seattle & the Tri-Counties to have a plan to deal with snow & ice (& a pathological aversion to using salt) just blows my mind.

Sure, we can let the local economy grind to a halt for 2-3 days, and risk having people trapped in cars on highways as the temps plummet, but OH NO! we can’t put down any salt, that might hurt the Sound (which, if I recall, is sea water).

    Morons!
