Stephen Spruiell, writing about the denial of a visa to Sheik Abdul Sattar al-Rishawi (the Sunni sheik who was assasinated shortly after Bush’s visit to Anbar Province, Iraq) by the State Department.
He quotes a report by Eli Lake in which it is accused that the State Department denied the visa for political reasons. Spruiell also speaks to an anonymous ex-State Department official as to whether this type of crap at Foggy Bottom could lead to trouble for General Patraeus and gets told that this is pretty much situation normal for the department, though this particular case is out in the open because of the Sheik’s death.
And that brings us to our quote
If you don’t have dissent at the State Department, there’s probably a Democrat in office.
Anon ex-State Department official
What truly sad, sad people these must be.
