I still Suck at Shooting

My “score,” if you can call 120 a score, on the e-postal match rifle target really bummed me out. I had a lot of flyers, and a couple were so bad they made me laugh in frustration.

I think what I’m discovering is that when either pressed for time (as in, “I gotta shoot 25 shots during this 20-minute firing period”) or under self-imposed pressure of competition — or both, as was the case for this e-postal match — even my very modest shooting abilities go out the window. I’ve never shot competitively in my life except for the Analog Kid’s “Killiards” and this match. Obviously I need to do a lot more.

I sorta confirmed this for myself, after sinking the last flyer into the e-postal target, by concentrating on a blank corner of the main target and shooting a (relatively) respectable group without much trouble. Sigh.

What’s even more frustrating about this is that I now want to go restore my confidence by shooting the tight groups I know I can with my other rifles, but I’m not going to be able to get to the range until this weekend. And even then, because I have to get ready for some significant events coming up later next week, I’m not going to have a lot of range time.

Aaargh!
