Santa Bush is Coming to Town

W will be in the Seattle area tomorrow holding a fundraiser for former King County Sheriff and current Representative for Washington’s 8th District, Dave Reichert.

The local left is just about to have a conniption over this and has a couple things planned.

First, they’re going to have a ‘Zombie March’ followed by a “Die In” as close to the private residence where the function is taking place.

Can you say “Day of the Dumb”? I knew you could.

The other plan is to have a floatilla of ‘protest boats’, including, but not limited to, dipshits in kayaks, try and get as close as they can to the private waterfront home and show off their banners.

You know, I would have thoroughly disliked having Gore or Kerry as President, but even though I’ve done (and sometimes still do) some pretty strange stuff, there is no way you’d get me to make this big an ass of myself for the self-satisfaction of being able to say “I was there, man! Fighting CheneyMcHitlerBurton!”

Of course, I’m sane and they suffer from Bush Derangement Syndrome.

Actually, suffer is the wrong word for me to use there, since they actually seem to enjoy it.

The Soundboard: Driving Music Part 4

So last week we covered driving tight twistys in a car built for the interstate.

This week were going to run them in a car that was actually built for making interstate cars look foolish on tight twistys. For those of you unfortunate enough to have never driven the wonderful Toyota MR2 (MKI), I offer my most humblest of sympathies.

Straight from the factory line, the MR2 would impress even the most jaded of corner carvers with it’s handling. With the wheelbase being barely longer than it is wide, the four points of contact forming a near perfect square, the overbuilt go-kart will turn just about any corner you ask it to with nary a complaint. Breaking contact is something you almost need to try to do purposely.

It’s acceleration, on the other hand, was something the factory needed to have thought about a little more. Luckily, Toyota’s racing group was of the same opinion and they made oodles of go-fast parts and upgrades for The Little Mister. A couple years into production, the factory took notice at how folks liked to drive the MR2, got together with the racers and whipped up a supercharged version.

And that is where the fun begins.

Basically, because you aren’t needing to slow down as much to make the multitude of turns, and because of the size/weight of the vehicle, you don’t get spooky amounts of brake fade that the bigger vehicles suffer so badly from. If you can get good telegraphing off the wheel and pedals, you can drive more confidently, and therefore have much more fun.

And it is all about fun, isn’t it?

Making the Mr. Rainier Loop at midnight, in a 1600lb car (a shade over 1900 w/two people in it) that puts your ass six inches off the ground and lets you know about how all 1711cc’s are working to the 10500 RPM redline (because you’re exhausting it out of a pair of barely baffled Kerkers you bought off your buddy when he laid his ZX12 Ninja down) is one hell of a good time.

But you still need music.

Now, since you’re trying to keep the weight down, you shouldn’t even really have a radio in there, but you have a very basic set up because you like your driving tunage (head unit and two strategically placed 6x9s). This means that any Hi-Fi tunage won’t sound very good, so what do you choose?

Music before Hi-Fi, of course! Something with a quickstep beat.

I Wonder Why – Dion and the Belmonts

The same mix album had Whispering Bells by the Dell-Vikings, At the Hop by Flash Cadillac and the Continental Kids, Blue Moon by the Marcels and, of course, Speedo by the Cadillacs.

I got a decent amount of ribbing from ‘The Guys’ about the selections, but it was very worth it.

And, of course, the NY Times falls for the speil.

Yesterday in the ‘Paper of Retard’, a story from a recently released Club Gitmo attendee:

In the early summer of 2001, when I was 19, I made the mistake of listening to my older brother and going to Afghanistan on what I thought was a dream vacation. His friends, he said, were going to look after me. They did — channeling me to what turned out to be a Qaeda training camp. For two months, I was there, trapped in the middle of the desert by fear and my own stupidity.

As soon as my time was up, I headed home. I was a few miles from the Pakistani border when I learned with horror about the attacks of 9/11. Days later, the border was sealed off, and the only way through to Pakistan and a plane to Europe was across the mountains of the Hindu Kush. I was with a group of people who were all going the same way. No one was armed; most of them, like me, had been lured to Afghanistan by a misguided and mistimed sense of adventure, and were simply trying to make their way home.

I was seized by the Pakistani Army while having tea at a mosque shortly after I managed to cross the border. A few days later I was delivered to the United States Army: although I didn’t know it at the time, I was now labeled an “enemy combatant.” It did not matter that I was no one’s enemy and had never been on a battlefield, let alone fought or aimed a weapon at anyone.

Sounds sad, doesn’t it? Made my heart pump purple piss for the guy.

Until I found out what the Times omitted from the story (Via Ace)  :

1) The man has been repatriated into France, where he awaits trial on terror charges.

2) The man’s father is an extremist cleric, and a convicted terrorist.

3) The man’s brother is a convicted terrorist, and indeed was convicted today (the day the sob story ran).

4) The man’s mother is a convicted terrorist.

5) So is his sister.

So we have a member of a terrorist FAMILY, and we let him go?

I’d hate to think about the guys we still have, then.

Anyone? Anyone?

I’m looking for some information on the Ford 460ci engine and the 5-Speed manual transmissions they mated up to them in early to mid 1980’s

If anybody has any experience with these, even just using one, leave a comment with a good email addy on this post and I’ll send you a couple questions I have.

Watermelons from the Past

I’m sure most of you remember the story about a Bellevue, Washington Community College instructor using ‘Condoleeza Rice drops a watermelon off a roof’ as part of a mathmatics question from a couple months back. I didn’t comment on it because everyone else was, until I saw the most ignorant ‘Letter to the Editor’ on the subject in the Seattle Times and posted about it.

Well, the person who wrote that ‘Letter’ found that post. Don’t ask me how, because I don’t know how to manipulate my logs to show me, but I assume he was Googling his name.

Anyway, this is the comment he left on the post:

As the author of the above letter to the editor, I feel more than justified in responding to your attack. Overt bigotry, my ass! You are the one who needs to pull their head out of their ass. Perhaps then you might catch a clue that this was really just a mistake. Hey, you might also see that our President is an incompetant bafoon who never learned from his father what makes a “Great President.” If only we could dump the son and give the father a second chance.

Scott Amsden

As often as I hope for eloquence and honesty, I am once again disappointed in the quality of moonbats I seem to attract. Feel free to have a go at Scotty in this comment section or the one on the old post.

As for my response, you’ll find it both below the fold here and at the old post.

Enjoy!

Off With His Head

Is exactly what the current leaders of Iran will demand happen after this interview on Al-Arabiya of Ayatollah Hussein Khomeini, grandson of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

You may remember Ruhollah as the guy who didn’t even have to dress up in a rabbit suit to scare Jimmeh Cahtah and proceeded to hold American citizens hostage for 444 days.

But anywhoooo, the interview with Hussein Khomeini goes a little something like this:

In the interview, Ayatollah Hussein Khomeini argued that the “rule of the jurisprudent” was not based on Shi’ite religious principle, but developed for historical reasons having to do with persecution of clerics in pre-revolutionary Iran. He also says that in its current form, the revolution has “strayed from its original course” by abandoning the principles of freedom and democracy, and states that Iran will gain real power only when it re-embraces these principles, not through relying on bombs and weapons.

For the last three years, the Iranian regime has kept Ayatollah Hussein Khomeini under surveillance and has banned him from giving interviews to the Iranian media owing to his criticism of the regime.

Now that you know the premise, head on over to Memri and read the rest

I’m still never going there again

Good news, of a sort.

An initiative that San Francisco voters approved last November banning residents from owning handguns violated state law, a Superior Court judge ruled today.

Proposition H, which won a 58 percent majority, would have outlawed possession of handguns by all city residents except law enforcement officers and others who needed the guns for professional purposes. It also would have forbidden the manufacture, sale and distribution of all guns and ammunition in San Francisco.

The National Rifle Association sued on behalf of gun owners, advocates and dealers the day after the measure passed. The NRA argued that Prop. H overstepped local government authority and intruded into an area regulated by the state. The city agreed to delay enforcement of the measure while the suit was pending.

In today’s ruling, Judge James Warren said California law, which authorizes police agencies to issue handgun permits, implicitly prohibits a city or county from banning handgun possession by law-abiding adults.

My “of a sort” line is because, later in the article, you will find that the same bozos who sponsored Prop H are planning on trying again, this time focusing strictly on official residents of San Francisco.

Are you from Sacramento or L.A? You’d be OK in SF.

But that probably also means illegal aliens, since they aren’t official residents, would be OK as well.

In other crazy California news, the guy who was hand picked by King County Executive, Ron “Tax to the Max” Sims, to run the King County Elections department, and also handed Barely Governor Christine Gregiore her win via illegal and ‘suddently found’ votes during the final legally available recount is heading to Los Angeles!

Dean Logan, the politically battle-weary director of King County elections, is resigning to take the No. 2 elections job in Los Angeles, prompting County Executive Ron Sims to delay moving the county to a virtually all-mail voting system.

In an interview Monday, Logan said a factor in his decision to leave his job as director of the Records, Elections and Licensing Services Division was the “toxic environment” surrounding the elections operation. It heated up after the contested 2004 governor’s election and intensified again recently over Sims’ vote-by-mail plan.

I’ll be expecting LA County’s next election to be so screwed up that it’ll take them weeks to figure out who the next Governor of California is. The guy is a walking disaster.

Have fun!

Culture of Corruption, Anyone?

Sorry, but after reading this, I just had to bring that piece of leftist propaganda up one more time.

If Democrats win back control of the U.S. House of Representatives in November, U.S. Rep. Jim Moran said he would use his position in the majority to help funnel more funds to his Northern Virginia district.

Moran, D-8th, told those attending the Arlington County Democratic Committee’s annual Jefferson-Jackson Day dinner on June 9 that while he in theory might oppose the fiscal irresponsibility of “earmarks” – funneling money to projects in a member of Congress’s district – he understands the value they have to constituents.

“When I become chairman [of a House appropriations subcommittee], I’m going to earmark the shit out of it,” Moran buoyantly told a crowd of 450 attending the event.

BTW, I’ve checked the usual suspects and apologists, and there has been nary a peep out of the leftwing blogs about this yet.

Pity for Children

But worry not a whit about terrorists.

It seem that frontpager Klueless Kos Kids have a lot in common with one of the local papers.

From georgia10 on the news of three detainees at Guantanamo Bay Detention Center, Camp 1, killed themselves

Today’s news is sad, but not surprising.  When man manufactures hell on earth, it is not surprising that death becomes a tempting avenue of escape.

Yes, she is describing Club Gitmo as “Hell on Earth”. Maybe nearbvy Havana could be described as such, but certainly not the tropical place where the prayer mats and halal meals are US Taxpayer funded.

The Seattle Post Intelligencer Editorial Board writes as follows

Colleen Graffy, U.S. deputy assistant secretary of state for public diplomacy, was callous to term the suicides of three Guantanamo Bay detainees as “a good PR move to draw attention.” Sadly, she may be right.

That three young men would take their own lives rather than face another day in what Amnesty International calls America’s “legal black hole” offers damning testimony.

There have been more than 40 reported suicide attempts among the 460 or so men being held there. Less than a month ago, six prisoners were injured after jumping U.S. guards lured into a unit of the prison by an inmate who appeared to be about to hang himself with a bed sheet, which is how the three men killed themselves over the weekend.

The deaths will intensify the global attention on and criticism of the way the Bush administration has used the facility to deny basic legal and human rights.

The administration has applied a cruel Catch-22 at Guantanamo. Were the men there considered prisoners of war, their detention and treatment would be covered under the Geneva Convention. The president says they’re not prisoners of war but “unlawful combatants.” Were they criminals, they would be covered by U.S. and international criminal justice systems. But the president continues to hold them without charges.

Calls for the mere closure of Guantanamo miss the point. The problem lies not with the facility itself but with the political leadership that would allow it to be put to such use.

But, of course, if you ask any local leftist, the Seattle PI is just another cog in the Bush propaganda machine.

Those must be some goood drugs, man.

Notice: Can I borrow a couple thousand dollars?

I saw this video at the Ace of Spades HQ yesterday.

It involves comedian Ali G interviewing some jackass who owns a ‘Safari Ranch’ in Texas.

Take a look at the video. Go just past the one minute mark and you’ll see why I call the guy a jackass.

I would like the couple thousand dollars to take a trip to this ‘Safari Ranch’, but oddly enough, the only animal I want to shoot is the guy who owns the place.

If you prefer to use your money to just go and do the job yourself, I will understand.
