If you like your healthcare plan, and it is run by the government…
You should have known you’d be screwed.
Obamacare cuts home healthcare for millions of seniors
President Obama’s mendacious political promise, “If you like your health care plan, you can keep it,†continues to cast a long and disturbing shadow of doubt and confusion over millions of Americans who have lost coverage as a result of Obamacare. As 2014 unfolds, the most vulnerable senior citizens — those who receive home health care services — are about to learn they are out of luck. Obamacare opens a trap door under them, leaving this elderly population in freefall — with many citizens losing access to home health care.
Add another compelling reason to reverse Obamacare. Whether by accident or intention, the “Affordable Care Act†empirically strips America’s oldest and poorest cohort, all part of the World War II generation, of this basic coverage. Here is how.
On Jan. 1, Medicare’s home health care services, formerly serving 3.5 million elderly beneficiaries across the country, were cut under Obamacare. The cut deleted exactly 14 percent, or an estimated $22 billion, from these lowest-income Americans over four years. News of the forthcoming cut only trickled out the Friday before Thanksgiving, yet another stunning attempt by the Obama White House to reduce Medicare benefits without attracting notice.
Guess what? We noticed. This cut does irreparable damage to recipients of Medicare’s home health care services, those who are aged, homebound and sicker than the average Medicare population. Indeed, nearly two-thirds of Medicare home health care users live at or below the federal poverty level, meaning they are the most economically compromised of America’s precious senior citizens.
Off to the old folks home with you. You’ll share a room with someone you’ve never met and only get to see your family during government mandated visiting hours.
Enjoy! And thanks for voting Democrat.
Like so many of the eco-socialist’s “beliefs”, this one was easily dispelled
DC’s green-approved buildings using more energy
Washington, D.C. may have the highest number of certified green buildings in the country, but research by Environmental Policy Alliance suggests it might not be doing much good.
The free-market group analyzed the first round of energy usage data released by city officials Friday and found that large, privately-owned buildings that received the green energy certification Leadership in Energy Design (LEED) actually use more energy than buildings that didn’t receive this green stamp of approval.
LEED is the brainchild of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), a private environmental group.
Washington, D.C.’s Department of Environment made the capital the first city in the nation to mandate LEED certifications in the construction of public buildings. The standards are now being phased in.
The results are measured in EUI’s, a unit that relates a building’s energy consumption to its size; the higher the number, the more energy is expended by a smaller building.
Take the Green Building Council’s Washington headquarters. Replete with the group’s top green-energy accolade, the platinum LEED certification, the USGBC’s main base comes in at 236 EUI. The average EUI for uncertified buildings in the capital? Just 199.
Certified buildings’ average comes in at 205 EUI, still less efficient than that didn’t take home the ultimate green trophy.
But I am sure that the “green” businesses that make up the USGBC made a decent chuck of change in getting developers and builders to fall for their trophy.
Splitting the state of California into six separate states is being discussed in more and more places as time goes by. Whether or not the discussions are being funded by the man who is proposing the idea is yet to be seen, but there are enough naysayers that I’m going to put my chips on “no” for now.
The folks over at The Economist are firmly in the “hell no” column, mostly because the current desk riders lean quite readily to the left and know that the greater economic freedom would be crushing to their cause.
Walter Russell Meade and the folks at The American Interest disagree with their poo-pooing.
Meanwhile, Ed Driscoll comments on a piece by Tony Senik as to how the middle-class has been abandoned by California, and they in-turn, are getting the hell out.
I really have no opinion either way that doesn’t rest on my curiosity to see how it works out as a social experiment. The fires have been lit and it will likely burn either way.
But we do have some suggested state slogans.

After yesterday’s news of Alex Sink’s idiocy about how giving amnesty to illegals would reduce the “burden” on the citizenry, we get news that Teh Dumb goes all the way to the top.
Obama eases penalties for businesses hiring illegal immigrants
The Obama administration regularly cuts a break for businesses that hire illegal immigrants, reducing their fines by an average of 40 percent from what they should be, according to an audit released Tuesday that suggests the government could be doing more to go after unscrupulous employers.
According to the audit, conducted by the Homeland Security Department’s inspector general, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement cut one business’s fine from $4.9 million to slightly more than $1 million — a 78 percent drop.
Investigators said the reduction is legal, but it may be undercutting the administration’s goal of getting tough on businesses that hire illegal immigrants.
Wow! These must be “special” investigators to have come to that conclusion.
I understood that the ICE’s budget was part of the federal budget and that the federal budget was still in the red. Wouldn’t collecting the full value of these fines not only serve to discourage the hiring of illegals, but could also be thrown into the kitty to fund the ICE?
President Obama needs to be careful or people might start to think that he doesn’t care as much about country as he says he does.
I agree this should be Mythbusters’ new direction. And yes, John Ioannidis would be perfect.
