“Specialization is for Insects” — Heinlein Quote at Boomershoot 2007Especially appropriate considering that 2007 is the Heinlein Centennial.

Way back on my birthday, Gene Hoffman, Silicon Valley bigwig and one of the uber-gods of Calguns.net, wrote a very encouraging analysis of how the Supreme Court may rule on the Parker case. I only noticed it the other day. He’s thinking 6-3 in favor of an individual right to arms!!!!
Money quote: “I actually don’t think we need Kennedy.”
In other California gun news, I thought y’all might enjoy seeing what California-legal ARs with detachable mags have to look like. Here’s why. Don’t all throw up at once, now.
I actually think the U-15 stock is a clever and well-executed way to avoid the ban on pistol grips and thumbhole stocks on OLL semi-autos. Why, I may even buy one in the foreseeable future…. [evil grin]
I don’t remember the name of the fellow in the Boomershoot sweatshirt, but I’m pretty sure he’s the one who did a hell of a job organizing and conducting the Boomershoot Dinner this year. It was fun just to watch him work the dinner crowd and he looked like he was having a ball doing it, too. I’ll go to every one from now on if they’re all run that way. Bravo!
I just uploaded a couple pics of the dinner — and many more Boomershoot pics as well — to my flickr site, so if you’re interested go see.

Just got back from the barber shop this morning and figured I’d let y’all know about the impromptu consensus that was arrived at while I was there about the most wanted Father’s Day gifts this year.
Now, I don’t have kids myself, but it was obvious that the other gentlemen in the shop did and I know for a fact that it had something to do with the top selection.
So, wothout further ado…
The Most Wanted Father’s Day gifts
#1 – “Peace and fucking quiet” (that is a quote and it got a hearty round of “Hear, Hear’s”)
#2 – Steak and a blowjob (someone mentioned that they’d heard of this one on the net and if I hadn’t been head down with clippers on the back of my head, I’d have told them about Michele from ASV)
#3 – Cigars (and the ability for Dad to smoke them wherever he wants)
I did not hear anything about range memberships, but this IS only my second visit there. I’ll work on them over the next year.
Just got a lovely evening fundraising call on my cell from the National Republican Congressional Committee. They asked who I supported in the primary — Fred Thompson, of course! — and then when I said I was holding off on my contribution until I saw how the immigration thing played out, the telemarketer (reading his talking points, of course) moved into an extended spiel about how “I hope you’ve been paying attention sir, because today the bill’s already been voted out of the House and is in the Senate, so holding your money back won’t affect the House vote, yada yada.”
Which is, of course, a complete lie. The bill’s been introduced in the Senate and is still there, as anyone paying attention to the news should know. Presuming it passes next week, it will then go to the House where I expect it may die a quick procedural death by blue slip.
…
Now, that aside, I’m not quite so exercised as Phil is about imminent passage of the President’s bill. In short, I wouldn’t actually have withheld my contribution even if the bill were passed and signed into law. But I get really pissed off when Our Inside-the-Beltway GOP Masters start yanking my chain with obvious falsehoods.
Somebody in the upper echelons of the NRCC approved that telemarketer’s script. Well Fuck You, buddy. Not one thin dime from me this year.
I’m just flying low.
I think that Robert Kubica needs to learn to fly just a little bit lower.
Watch this clip from last weekend’s F1 Grand Prix of Montreal where Polish BMW Sauber driver Robert Kubica takes a flying leap at a wall at 160mph.
This weekend they’re at Indy and Kubica is just waiting on the OK from the docs before he can drive.
In that crash he suffered only a concussion and a sprained ankle.
You said “whoa!”, didn’t you?
That if some asshole points his dog at me that I can respond with lethal force?
Appeals court rules dog can be deadly weapon
A state appeals court in Tacoma says a dog is a deadly weapon.
In a ruling today the court upheld the assault conviction for a Vancouver man, Robbie Hoeldt, whose pit bull attacked a police officer.
The court says a dog is a deadly weapon because it can be used to cause death or substantial bodily harm.
A Vancouver police detective shot and killed the dog when it attacked him as he was trying to arrest Hoeldt at his home.
I would, of course, wait until I saw that the dog was cocked and loaded before firing.
It’ll be my right foot, all mangled and bloody after I repeatedly break it off in their asses.
Should hunters — or anyone who enjoys a steak or a hamburger — have to pay extra for that little indulgence?
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals thinks so. One of the nation’s largest anti-hunting organizations, the group has kicked off a “Tax Meat” Campaign, proposing a 10-cent-per-pound excise tax on meat. Animal activists have also asked federal lawmakers to give tax breaks to those who have sworn off the consumption of animals.
PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk sent letters to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid urging them to extend to vegetarians the same tax breaks that hybrid car owners receive for purchasing vehicles with low carbon emissions.
Newkirk claims vegetarians are responsible for fewer greenhouse-gas emissions and “environmental degradations” than meat-eaters.
And Ingrid Newkirk is a fucking idiot. Sure, they’re not eating flatulating cows, but they supply a bountiful harvest of CO2 from both their holes due to their diet and their mindset.
Women and minorities hardest hit.
Female/minority power needed in radio
A recent study of radio stations reveals an alarming lack of female and minority ownership in a medium that is the easiest entry into media.
The study by Free Press — a group that works to inform and give the public a voice in the national media debate — is packed with depressing statistics:
• Women own only 6 percent of full-power stations while accounting for 28 percent of non-farm businesses.
• Racial and ethnic minorities own a meager 7.7 percent of full-power stations contrasted to 18 percent of non-farm businesses.
• The average market has 16 white male-owned stations to every female-owned station, and 16 for every two minority-owned stations.
They act as if white males are bad for the country. Have you noticed that?
Hit the link to see where they talk as though the study they speak of should be added onto the Fairness Doctrine, post haste.
