You don’t say

This study proves that what we all knew all along is true: That “diversity” is a division of people into classes and/or groups and is only divides people. It does not to bring them together.

More Diversity, Less Trust

Do you trust your neighbors?

Your answer may depend on how many people in your area look like you.

New research says the more racially or ethnically diverse the community, the less people trust one another. That holds true for trust among groups as well as within them. So whites in diverse communities distrust whites as well as Latinos, blacks and Asians.

(…)

Published this month in Scandinavian Political Studies and presented in a lecture in Sweden last fall, the research is making waves in the U.S. and abroad as leaders struggle to govern increasingly multicultural countries.

The study includes results from central Oregon, Seattle and Yakima. But the conclusions carry special relevance for Portland — among America’s whitest cities and lauded nationally and by Putnam himself for its community cohesion and activism.

Putnam, an international guru of sorts on what makes democracies work, is best known for his book, “Bowling Alone: The Collapse and Revival of American Community.” The 2000 book plots a decline in civic involvement — from voting to attending public meetings — as Americans increasingly hole up in front of their televisions.

He launched his newest research, also in 2000, to better understand what makes communities cohesive. He surveyed people from Los Angeles to Lewiston, Maine.

One trend leapt out.

In example after example, those who reported the biggest civic disconnect lived in more diverse places.

When you tell people over and over that this person or that group must be treated differently because of they are different or that you must be treated differently because you are different, you’re going to get a lot of discomfort in social situations.

And unfortunately for those who espouse “diversity”, forcing people together doesn’t stop the discomfort.

Of course, the left won’t like the results and will either ignore or downplay the study. The idea that “diversity” programs are actually causing division is just “too diverse” for them to wrap their heads around.

Now I’ve Seen It All

Somebody came up with a “tactical bayonet” rail-mount attachment for the CZ P-01 9mm pistol.

sigbayonetleft.jpg

Not to denigrate it or anything, but if I’d been drinking something at the time I came across this auction item, I’d have snorted liquid all over my keyboard. I’m sure the “bayonet” is wickedly effective at, um, stabbing an assailant instead of shooting him, but really — WTF?

Should anyone want to buy this thing, the auction’s here. I, for one, would love to see the holster.

RNS Quote of the Day: 06/20/07

The same guy as yesterday, as quoted in the Earth First! newsletter.

If radical environmentalists were to invent a disease to bring human populations back to sanity, it would probably be something like AIDS. It has the potential to end industrialism, which is the main force behind the environmental crises.

Testes, Testes? 1. 2. 3?

The eco-socialists get downright testy when their Global Warming Death Cult Messiah, The Goracle, gets show to be a liar and his movie full of shit.

Last Wednesday, the Seattle Times featured an editorial wherein a local scientist absolutley kicked Gore’s claim that the snows on Mount Kilimajaro have disappeared because of Global Warming in the nuts.

You knew the claim was bullshit. I knew the claim was bullshit.

But apparently, some folks ate that bullshit up like pie and are now pissed about it.

Oh, they’re not pissed at The Goracle. No, they’re pissed at the Seattle Times. From the Letter’s section.

My, my, my! The smug self-satisfaction of the politically ossified Times editorial board telegraphs clearly in the editorial — preceded naturally by bold front-page coverage — trumpeting the possible mistake scientists and Al Gore made in determining the cause of Kilimanjaro’s decreasing snow cover.

Apparently, the conservatives at The Times will grasp at any little thing to throw sand in the face of scientists and the progressives who support them if it means they don’t have to face the numerous, glaring and very dangerous shortcomings of their own regressive ideas.

Bitter much?

Translation: You Have Got To Be Fucking Kidding Me

Case in point:

The Chapman family has moved home three times in three years in the Newcastle area because of abuse directed at its six red-haired members. Kevin Chapman told reporters that his 11-year-old son even attempted suicide after becoming depressed following years of abuse.

The story has led to speculation about whether insults over red hair could have the same legal status as insults regarding a person’s race or gender.

Mother of All Range Reports. Well, maybe not all, but it sure comes close if you consider it a two-parter. Here’s the first part.

Warning: lots and lots of things you can’t legally do in California. (Although I’ve seen evidence of similar doings at the Cow Mountain BLM range outside Ukiah….)

Putting the Call Out

I need some help in finding something.

When I was a youngin’, which wasn’t all that long ago, my dad had a 1963 Chevy 1/2-ton truck we’d haul the little lake boat around in to go fishing. The bench seat in that truck was pretty ratty, as you can probably imagine, and dad went out and bought seat covers for them.

These seat covers had a long pocket that ran along the front of the bench seat, behind the knee of a seated person. This was a very convenient place to put a long gun, such as a rifle or shotgun (like the one we had to use one day when we were packing up the truck and a bear came out of the trees by the boat launch wanting our freshly caught string of Rainbow Trout).

I am looking for seat covers like this for Walker: Commuter Ranger.

Unfortunately, I am unable to find anything like this today. I have the entire internet at my disposal. I’ve gone to Cabela’s, Sportsman’s Warehouse, Cheaper than Dirt, GI Joes and just about every other sporting goods place I can think of. I’ve Googled “Seat Covers” and gotten 50 links to manfacturers.

But I cannot find anyone who offers this option on their product.

There are ones with six and eight inch wide pockets on the outside, in the middle of the cover, but nothing like a long pocket running the width of the cover.

Anyone else remember these? I know I’m not going crazy here. Were they discontinued because some jackass blew his knees off while reaching for his rifle?

I’m not looking for anythign fancy. If I have to settle for one without that I could take to a seamstress and have modified to meet my requirements, I will, but I’d much rather save myself the hassle of explaining it to someone.

Anyone? Bueller?

RNS Quote of the Day: 06/19/07

Today’s pair o’ quotes also come from a big shot in the eco-socialist group, Earth First!.

They were spoken by the editor of the group’s newsletter, John Davis

Human beings, as a species, have no more value than slugs.

I suspect that eradicating small pox was wrong. It played an important part in balancing ecosystems.

But don’t forget, they’re so very concerned about global warming because they want future human generations to have a place where they can die off like slugs and balance the eco-system.

Green to the Grave

No, I’m not talking about Irish Pride.

It is this article that has me wondering why the eco-weenies can’t even leave people alone when they’re dead?

Canadians urged to go green even when they’re gone

North Americans who spend their lives reducing, reusing and recycling can keep doing their bit for the environment after they die, if Europe’s “green funeral” trend makes its way across the Atlantic.

Canadian activists say green send-offs could help the dead contribute to a sustainable environment, with funerals that use shrouds or biodegradable containers and involve no embalming, no headstones and no grave linings.

“Having a green burial is one more thing a person can do to lessen the impact we’re having on our environment,” said Dorothy Yada of the Memorial Society of British Columbia.

“Environmental organizations should take it on as something they could add to their list of things to do … if people asked for it more often, (the cemeteries and funeral parlours) would do it.”

Great. The last sentence shows that they do actually know how market theory works, even if they repeated say that it doesn’t work whenever they’re degrading the capitalist model.

Back on the main point of the linked article, seeing as how this week’s Quotes of the Day prove that they truly believe humans are a disease to the planet, maybe they could “urge” by example.

Oh, and the first jackass in the local media who says I need to “die green” will cause me to call my lawyer and order a change to my official burial instructions of an extra cord to be added to my funeral pyre. I’ve already got three, so watch your step, greenies, I may end up needing to contract Weyerhaeuser for my burial needs.

Murdering innocent forests and adding more CO2 and particulates than they could have nightmares about. That’s how I’m going out. Vader’s pyre will seem a matchhead.
