Putting the Call Out

I need some help in finding something.

When I was a youngin’, which wasn’t all that long ago, my dad had a 1963 Chevy 1/2-ton truck we’d haul the little lake boat around in to go fishing. The bench seat in that truck was pretty ratty, as you can probably imagine, and dad went out and bought seat covers for them.

These seat covers had a long pocket that ran along the front of the bench seat, behind the knee of a seated person. This was a very convenient place to put a long gun, such as a rifle or shotgun (like the one we had to use one day when we were packing up the truck and a bear came out of the trees by the boat launch wanting our freshly caught string of Rainbow Trout).

I am looking for seat covers like this for Walker: Commuter Ranger.

Unfortunately, I am unable to find anything like this today. I have the entire internet at my disposal. I’ve gone to Cabela’s, Sportsman’s Warehouse, Cheaper than Dirt, GI Joes and just about every other sporting goods place I can think of. I’ve Googled “Seat Covers” and gotten 50 links to manfacturers.

But I cannot find anyone who offers this option on their product.

There are ones with six and eight inch wide pockets on the outside, in the middle of the cover, but nothing like a long pocket running the width of the cover.

Anyone else remember these? I know I’m not going crazy here. Were they discontinued because some jackass blew his knees off while reaching for his rifle?

I’m not looking for anythign fancy. If I have to settle for one without that I could take to a seamstress and have modified to meet my requirements, I will, but I’d much rather save myself the hassle of explaining it to someone.

Anyone? Bueller?

Way back, I think around 1976, I purchased that seat cover from L.L. Bean…not sure if they still over them, good luck.

At one time, I remember JC Whitney selling those. They sell just about anything else……

    Look for “seat scabbard”.

Try these folks; their seat covers wear like iron and they have gun racks that hang on the back of the seat.

Havent seen that type of seatcover in a loooong time.
Put a cloth riflecase behind the seat secured to the seatback frame or springs by plastic ties.

No need to thank me, its what I do.

I much prefer Cabela’s under the seat box for F-150s, but it’s a rear seat accessory. Not the best for quick reaction, but it has the space for two supported long-guns and a couple boxes/mags of ammo.

I remember those; had one in my 1967 Chevy pickup; it was made from a horse blanket.
