In the Town Hall

Do you want to see how crazy Seattle area libs are?

One of the dweebies from the more like a tree fort than an “Institute” Northwest Progressive Institute went to a town hall style meeting sponsored by the local Air America affiliate. It featured a number of the station’s national “talent”, a notable no-show was crybaby whacko-loon, Randi Rhodes, who has such a disagreement with one of the other hosts that she refuses to be on the same stage with the guy.

Anyway, Thom Hartmann read aloud a list of Democrat Presidential hopefulls (both real and imaginary) and asked the crowd for their applause at whom they would prefer to vote for to be on the Democrat ticket.

The top applause receiver was The Goracle

Tied for second place were John Edwards and Dennis Kucinich.

You have to hand it to the local leftists, they are nothing if not mired in fantasy.

Mystery Cartridge, Part 2

Okay, due to popular demand, here’s a better pic. (I would have had it up yesterday, but Costco screwed up my camera downloads and I had to go to Kinkos this morning to get something I could post.)

As mentioned previously, it is a factory cartridge. If you want hints, they’re in the two posts below. Guesses so far are in comments to the original post. Check back tomorrow morning for the answer.

They Call This “Success”?

Only a friendly liberal media would say that the Washington State government giving away $15.5 Million dollars of yours and my tax money to people who don’t deserve it is “Success”.

From the Editorial Board of The Olympian

Food Stamp Effort a Success Story

The administration of this state’s food stamp program has undergone a drastic overhaul – all for the better.

The federal government picks up the costs of the food stamp program for low-income Washington residents. The feds also pay about half the administrative costs and routinely audit state records to ensure that food stamp recipients are deserving of the federal assistance. About 500,000 low-income Washington residents received $600 million in food stamp benefits last year.

Two years ago, the state had a terrible error rate – either providing benefits for individuals who were not eligible or paying benefits that were too high or too low. The error rate was 7.62 percent.

State officials tackled the problem and, in fiscal year 2005, the state error rate dropped to 2.72 percent. Recentlly Governor Chris Gregoire announced that the error rate had dropped to 2.59 percent in 2006. Washington state now ranks fourth nationally for its accuracy rate and as a result the state was rewarded with more than $2.9 million as a performance bonus.

Yes, 2.59% is better than 7.62%. But it is worse than 0%, which is the goal.

259 times worse than your goal is called failure.

RNS Quote of the Day: 07/16/07

More eco-sociopaths. I just can’t run out of these damn people saying things that make me want to puke.

Cannibalism is a radical but realistic solution of the problem of overpopulation.

Perverts Watching the Perverts

Great. Just great. You can’t make this stuff up.

Sadly, you don’t need to.

Voyeur psychologist case raises questions

A noted psychologist, now under investigation for voyeurism, had such a successful practice evaluating both sexual abuse victims and priests accused of molestation that several lawyers said the allegations against him might call into question numerous cases settled on the basis of his expert opinion.

“This guy had his finger on every single Catholic church perp in the state — if not the region,” said John Manly, an attorney who has sued the Jesuit Order for ignoring deviant priests and took testimony from the therapist.

At least once, Manly said, the psychologist evaluated a priest who had sexually abused dozens of women and girls, but apparently missed the signs.

“He was integral to the church’s system of putting abuser priests back into service,” the lawyer said.

…

When questioned by investigators, the 59-year-old man — a faculty member at the University of Washington — admitted that he had concealed two cameras “to view his employees in the nude,” court records say. He insisted, however, that he had never filmed patients.

Dozens of divorcing parents hired the psychologist to weigh in as a court-appointed expert in their child-custody battles.

“If your evaluator turns out to have some kind of personal problem, does that mean his forensic judgment was impaired?” wondered attorney Ruth Edlund, who has used the man several times during the past five years.

“Who’s to say?”

Almost to a person, however, those who recalled their interactions with the analyst expressed shock at the news.

“He is the sort of fellow I’d least expect to be the subject of a dragnet like this,” said Joseph Greene, an electrical engineer who paid the man $14,000 to determine Greene’s fitness as a parent.

“This guy’s got a wall full of credentials.”

And apparently, a drawer full of videos he whacks his willy to.

Making them work

The Legislature and those who oppose Democracy, that is.

Local pro-tax groups, FutureWise and the SEIU fought to keep a Citizen’s Initiative off the ballot this November. The Initiative was I-960. It would require a 2/3 Supermajority vote in the Washington State Legislature to pass any new tax bills onto the Governor’s desk for signature. They hated the very idea of Washington State Citizens having the power to strip the Democrat majority in both houses of the power they gained in the satewide elections of 2006, so they took it to court, alleging that it was Unconstitutional.

Last Friday, the 13th, was very unlucky for them as a King County Superior Court Judge Catherine Shaffer basically told them to piss up a rope: The Citizen’s would get their change to vote on how their government works.

I’ve written about this topic previously here.

And now I shall wait for my chance to vote for I-960 on November the 6th, 2007.

In the meantime, FutureWise will have to spend their donations and the SEIU will have to hope the people they steal money from (supposedly for union representations) don’t get too pissed off when they spend it on advertisements oppoing I-960.

Stupid is as Stupid Does

And at this rate, stupid is going to be pretty bad

Graduates from Richmond’s Binford Middle School get a diplomalike certificate, signed by the teacher and principal. It is ringed by six graphic marks, including icons of a notebook, an apple, the school mascot and such.

Then there is a picture of a man. And who is this icon of American education?

Not John Dewey or Horace Mann, both of whom were called fathers of American education. It’s not Thomas Jefferson or Benjamin Franklin or George Washington, either. Nor is it even James H. Binford, the first superintendent of Richmond Public Schools, for whom the school was named when it opened in 1915. This picture looks a little like Albert Einstein, perhaps. Or maybe Frederick Douglass. Or the Smith Brothers cough syrup guy. . . .

Wait a minute. . . .

It’s Karl Marx!

Not exactly the father of education. This is the father of socialism. The father of communism. Author of “The Communist Manifesto.” Any Google image search confirms it. The specific Marx image on the Binford certificate, artistically embellished with books in the background, can be found online.

There’s nothing odd with teaching Karl Marx. Any well-rounded education ought to include his ideas. But Marx as the sole human symbol of Binford Middle School? In fact, if you were to rank anyone in the world who might appear on a graduation certificate in Richmond what number would Marx be? Would he even make the top million? Karl Marx would rank below Groucho Marx.

Binford Principal Juanita Nicholson said yesterday that she had not known the photo was of Marx or the reason for its use. She agreed it was an odd choice. Nicholson said one of the teachers on a committee apparently had done it. “I’m not sure . . . she even knew who it was.”

Turns out she didn’t.

Richmond schools spokeswoman Felicia Cosby called last night to explain: “She really thought she was capturing clip art representing Frederick Douglass. She did a search to pull up Frederick Douglass and this is what came up . . . with the beard and the hair.”

Hold on. Wait a minute.

One was a German philosopher, the other an African-American slave who became a leading abolitionist. They can’t be distinguished? The teacher, the school and the school system “apologize profusely if this image offended parents and children alike,” Cosby said. “But it was not intentional to put an image of Karl Marx up.” It will be taken off in the future, she said.

Those poor children.

fidel castro bemoans “irritating inequalities” plaguing communist Cuba

Fidel Castro said Wednesday the island’s communist system has become plagued by “irritating inequalities and privileges” that have left the poor bitter and angry.

Turning a more critical eye on Cuban life than he has since falling ill and giving up power almost a year ago, the 80-year-old Castro said in an essay published in state-run newspapers “we are not a consumer society.”

But he bemoaned that some Cubans use foreign currency sent from relatives abroad or brought to the island by tourists to set up illegal sources of profit. This while they continue to enjoy ration cards, free housing and health care and other social services.

“Not everyone receives convertible currency from abroad, something which is not illegal but which at times creates irritating inequalities and privileges in a country that does its utmost to supply vital services free of charge to the entire population,” Cuba’s “Maximum Leader” wrote in the essay titled “self-criticism of Cuba.”

“The real and visible lack of equality and the lack of pertinent information gives way to critical opinions, especially in the neediest sectors,” Castro wrote.

In my opinion, the poor are “bitter and angry” because the non-Cuban medical system doctor kept him alive.

Have you ever heard of someone enjoying a ration of anything?
