Making them work

The Legislature and those who oppose Democracy, that is.

Local pro-tax groups, FutureWise and the SEIU fought to keep a Citizen’s Initiative off the ballot this November. The Initiative was I-960. It would require a 2/3 Supermajority vote in the Washington State Legislature to pass any new tax bills onto the Governor’s desk for signature. They hated the very idea of Washington State Citizens having the power to strip the Democrat majority in both houses of the power they gained in the satewide elections of 2006, so they took it to court, alleging that it was Unconstitutional.

Last Friday, the 13th, was very unlucky for them as a King County Superior Court Judge Catherine Shaffer basically told them to piss up a rope: The Citizen’s would get their change to vote on how their government works.

I’ve written about this topic previously here.

And now I shall wait for my chance to vote for I-960 on November the 6th, 2007.

In the meantime, FutureWise will have to spend their donations and the SEIU will have to hope the people they steal money from (supposedly for union representations) don’t get too pissed off when they spend it on advertisements oppoing I-960.
