Stop the Lie

I remember verbally beating IndyMidiots over the head for using this lie back in 2004.

Don’t tell me that we’re going to have to start doing this all over again!

“I want to be a partner, a good partner, to help (the auto industry) transition to a clean energy future,” Hillary Clinton said Monday in unveiling her draconian 40 mpg mandate on the industry by 2020.

Then she tee-boned her new partner with the snide comment that engine technology had changed little since Model T’s started rolling off the assembly line. “In fact,” she said, “that Model T got better gas mileage than your typical SUV does today.”

The comment is revealing for the Left’s continued nostalgia for “the good ol’ days” of pre-modern America. It is also a convenient untruth.

Her misinformation apparently is sourced form those auto experts at the Sierra Club which claimed in a 2003 ad that the Model T got 25 mpg while the average SUV gets 18 mpg. Wrong, says Ford Motor: The typical Tin Lizzy got 15 mpg.

Furthermore, the Model T weighed just 1,200 pounds, lacked any safety equipment, and had a top speed of 45 mpg with a tailwind. Today’s SUVs weigh 4,200 pounds thanks in part to federally mandated bumpers, airbags, catalytic converters, roof-crush standards, side-impact steel bars, and so on – not to mention creature comforts like AC and heated leather seats.

When adjusted for all these amenities, a Ford SUV is 4.5 times as efficient as Henry Ford’s original.

Of course, it is a Clinton, so you know they’re lying when their lips move.

What say ye?

I’m thinking about this 3.5in suspension lift with an additional 1.5in shackle/spacer lift on 31×10.5×15’s

3.5in Tuff and 1.5in spacer shackle lift on 31x10.5x15 on15x8 cragars.jpg
But one of my YJ driving coworkers says to go with a 4.5 in suspension lift on 32×11.5×15’s

4.5 roughcountry 32x11.5x15 on 15x8.5.jpg
Yeah, I know, not much actual difference and the pics suck, but take a look and tell me what you think. Either one will have me lowering the T-Case, but a 3.5in lift just doesn’t seem enough for a good expeditionary vehicle. The 31’s will ride better on the pavement, or so I’m guessing, and will give me more flex space, though I’ll be adding Bushwhacker flares shortly thereafter, so either one works.

Oh yes, it gets worse

A long time ago, in blog terms, I read this article in the Seattle Times about how former Mayor, Norm Rice, chairs a committee that is going to attempt to get housing subsidies for middle class income earners.

No, I didn’t make a typo there. The weenies in Seattle are now beyond concerning themselves about low-income homeowners and have moved on to folks who make just under $100K a year.

With very strict rules on subdividing lots and the city looking to ban large homes, along with restrictions in the county as to how and who can subdivide their acreage, housing is a big deal in King County. The median house costs $450K and the demand has dropped less than 20% from last year, so the housing slump isn’t really touching us up here.

I sure as hell can’t figure it out. I paid good money to move one county south and am willing to pay even more to get out of the whole state. But I came to the conclusion a long time ago that most folks just don’t seem to care where they live and deserve what they get.

But that isn’t even the worst part of the whole story.

A week later, the writer of the previously linked article filed her story about how a “concerned” Seattle Public School Teacher put it to his students to find a solution to this problem.

Their answers are proof that it is the Democrats who have been purposely dumbing down the school systems.

Put “safe zones” around affordable housing to save it from being replaced by “big, fancy homes.”

Put a cap on how much you can sell your home for. “Like the most you could sell it for is, say, 20 percent more than you bought it,” one kid suggested.

How about requiring people to live in their homes for so many years before selling, to get them involved and cut back on flipping?

One student stated a belief: “People shouldn’t be able to get rich from houses when it keeps good lower- and middle-class people from being able to live in their own city.”

Good little socialists they’re raising there, don’t you agree?

Its over a week old

But I bet you still probably haven’t heard about it.

Former Atlantic City Mayor Robert Levy pleads guilty to defrauding U.S. of $25,000 in benefits

At his plea hearing, Levy admitted that in January 2003 he submitted an application that contained false and fraudulent statements in support of his claim for financial benefits. Levy admitted that he falsely claimed that he twice was abandoned during battle by his South Vietnamese troops and left alone in the jungle for several weeks, which caused him to suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, according to U.S. Attorney Chris Christie.

Levy admitted that he falsely stated that he was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Parachutist’s Badge. Furthermore, Levy falsely claimed that he had successfully completed Airborne School and that during the course of his military service successfully parachuted up to 100 times. Levy admitted that he falsely claimed to have injured his shoulder during Airborne School and while participating in military operations. Levy stated that he never completed Airborne School and that he never parachuted from an aircraft during his military service.

And now it is time to play Name That Party!

Don’t bother going through the whole article. It isn’t in there.

You should go here.

So now we’ll see

Won’t we?

After the loss of Congress for the Repubs in 2006, there were two schools of thought as to why it happened:

A. Iraq, Iraq and Iraq

B Corruption and Runaway Spending/Pork

Personally, I am still in the B column of folks, however, with the Democrat override of Bush’s veto on the pork-filled Water Works Appropriations bill, we’ll see just how fed up with out-of-control spending the American people really are.

The reaction on the floors of Congress was laughable. They complained that Bush had no problem spending money on the war in Iraq, but wouldn’t approve of a bill that grew over 50% in conference. One might have expected at least a few members to point out that arguing over who gets to spend the most money hardly gives Congress much credibility. It’s like watching spouses fight over spending by continually going to the mall.

Harry Reid extolled the value of legislatures while praising this veto override. He claimed that Bush had ignored Congress for seven years. If only we could ignore a Congress that refuses to exercise even a modicum of discipline on its spending processes. Under Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, and unfortunately with the participation of Republicans in this instance, the legislative branch has proven itself an undisciplined compulsive-spending machine. Their override of this veto shows that a massive House- and Senate-cleansing is in order.

“Draining the Swap”?

More like “Training the Swamp”.

Oh, and run a check around the left-wing blogs. Not a fucking peep.

I already knew this

And that is why I don’t vote for Democrats

Biden: Democrats have lost faith in the American people

Sen. Joe Biden said in an interview at the New Hampshire Union Leader this afternoon that too many Democrats, including the frontrunners for the presidential nomination, do not have faith in the American people.

“We’ve got to trust the American people more,” Biden said.

“I think they’ve really lost faith in the American people in terms of leveling with them,” he said of his leading rivals.

When he asks groups of Democrats if they think the American people are stupid because they elected George W. Bush twice, most respond that, yes, they do, he said. He said he thinks that attitude is a real problem for the Democrats, who fail to understand how smart and pragmatic the American people really are.

Once their party leader lied to my face, and they afterwards offered apologies to him and for him, I knew it was time to jump off the fence and become an adult.

In 2004 48% of American voters weren’t ready for a ball-check. Let’s hope 2008 goes better.

We’re running out of oil!

OK, not really.

Offshore oil discovery could help make Brazil major petroleum exporter

Yes, it’ll take a half dozen years to start grabbing it, but fields such as these are going to be discovered again and again and again while “Peak Oil” freaks keep screaming that we’re running out.

Fausta’s blog has more and includes a nice little tidbit on why this discovery makes life very crappy for Chavez.

I might have to get me one of those

Please let me introduce you to the 2008 Mustang Bullitt

2008-Ford-Mustang-Bullitt-Press.jpg

Sure, it is a cheap attempt for Ford to cash in on their former glory, but the Mustang is THE baby-boomer car.

And former glory is pretty much all that the baby-boomers have left.

Btw, the title of this post isn’t talking about the Mustang, its speaking of this next little tidbit of news

The new owners of Chrysler in the US are reported to be interested in buying Jaguar and Land Rover. This would put both of the world’s iconic off-road brands under the same roof.

No pictures, no concepts vehicles, no nothing, yet.

But if this deal goes through, I’ll take two of whatever their putting on the market.

More recent reports have Chrysler out of the bidding, but there is still hope.

How’d she get that job?

Since it is obvious that she has never read any of Heinlein’s work.

Nisi Shawl is the science fiction book reviewer for the Seattle Times, or so her by-line says. I’m having a hard believing that though after this opening screed from her most recent column

The face of fantastic fiction is changing. More than just its face: This former locus of racial and cultural stereotypes, where Robert Heinlein’s spaceship pilots look, sound and act like 1950s Pat Boone fans and J.R.R. Tolkien’s doughty elves battle hordes of Asiatic Orcs, is undergoing a transformation that’s more than skin deep. Three recent novels demonstrate the genre’s growing ability to represent human diversity.

Duh…what?

Has she read the same books I’ve been reading? I mean, to be a sci-fi reviewer, you kind of have to know and can’t chintz on the details of the most famous sci-fi writer.

Luckily, whist I was in my stupor, local commentator, Jim Miller, took Ms. Shawl to task for what seems to a lacking in her sci-fi knowledge. Here is a taste

(Or) whether Shawl had ever read Starship Troopers, first published in 1959. (It may now be his best known novel, thanks to that terrible movie.) The hero is Juan Rico, a Filipino. (Incidentally, the spaceship pilots in Starship Troopers are usually women. The first pilot we meet is Yvette Deladrier, who brilliantly rescues a group of troopers. The second is Carmencita Ibañez.)

For sure Shawl didn’t bother to read the Wikipedia article on Heinlein, which discusses Heinlein and race in great detail. And even told me something about the hero of Tunnel in the Sky, which I had missed, though I have read the book a number of times.

Yet another ignorant clone demanding diversity where it already exists.

Maybe that is how she got her job at the Times? How many chick sci-fi reviewers can there really be.

Especially quality ones.
