Walking the Dog

Surrounded by criminals, LA Mayor asks law enforcement to go away.

He must like it like that

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is asking federal officials to rethink their policy on workplace immigration crackdowns that involve established businesses and to focus on employers that mistreat workers instead.

Umm, wouldn’t both of those things be the same? Something about illegals getting paid less that their legal counterparts?

The mayor said in a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff that work-site raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement could have “severe and long-lasting effects” on the local economy, the Los Angeles Times reported Thursday.

Yeah, crime would take a severe plunge and LA would turn into a place worth living in again.

ICE made more than 4,900 work-site arrests nationwide in fiscal 2007, a 45-fold increase over the number in 2001, authorities said.

More than 130 undocumented workers were arrested at a San Fernando Valley manufacturing company in February and over 60 workers were arrested for immigration violations at South Bay-area warehouses last week.

Creating 190 new job openings for legal residents and citizens to apply for, with the possibility that they can stop drawing unemployment benefits.

Hell, in LA, even the illegals have illegals doing their lawn care.

Villaraigosa needs to be arrested for impeding the investigations of ICE and stripped of his office.

Running him out of town after being tarred and feathered would simply be icing on the cake.

New Linkage

I saw a referral to “The Sentinel” in my trackback logs a day or so ago, but I didn’t know who sent it our way until Caleb at Call Me Ahab posted on it.

It seem that Sailor Curt has got his feisty self a feature spot at the new Virginia Citzens Defense League’s blog.

“Defending Your Right to Defend Yourself” is their byline and you should go check them out. And into the permalinkage they go.

Troofer Radio

We all heard about left wing nutjobess, Randi Rhodes, getting “suspended” from Air America Radio for telling the truth about HRC last week (not so much truth about Ferrarro). Well, it appears that she decided to respond with the “You can’t suspend me, I quit!” line and has resigned from AAR.

While that was worthy of a chuckle, the guffaw-worthy part is that she has wandered on over to the truly far left wing of the radio world and signed up with the barely breathing Nova M Radio network. This does not surprise me in the least, as on the night of her suspension, Troofer Mike Malloy, spent most of his second hour practically making a public plea for Rhodes to come join him on Nova M.

That she ran screaming, hair-on-fire-style, from AAR and into the arms of the absolute fringiest section of talk radio also doesn’t surprise me.

What did surprise me was that Sir Ad-Hom, Sam Seder, who had been filling in for Rhodes the week before her suspension while she was on vacation, and then filled in during her suspension, isn’t likely to get pulled from the minors to take over Rhodes’ permanent spot. Not that he deserves it, but that never stopped AAR from promoting someone.

In a stroke of marketing genius (now that’s a stretch), word has it that they’re going to give Rhodes’s spot to Law & Order SVU actor, Richard Belzer, to try on for size next week.

While he has a face for radio, I can’t even listen to him deliver his lines on TV, going all the way back to his stand up days. I cannot see being able to stand him during my drive time commute.

Time to mix up some new CD’s this weekend.

Waving Goodbye

To my freedom of association.

Back at the end of February I told you all about Elaine Huguenin, the photographer in New Mexico, who was being sued by the state’s Human Rights Division for stating that her Christian values did not include taking money to photgraph same sex marriage ceremonies.

Well, the verdict is in, and Mrs. Huguenin has been fined $6,637.94 by the State of New Mexico for the crime of not wanting to associate, or take money from, people she didn’t want as customers.

As I said in my previous post, she may want to get in touch with Ezra Levant, though he and a few other Canadians kind of have their hands full at this moment through harassment of a similar kind. You can hit that link to read about and hopefully donate to their cause. If I hear about anything similar happening for Mrs. Huguenin, I will post it.

The Soundboard: Waisted Edition

Jello Biafra wrote “California Uber Alles” in 1979. The key line in the track I would like to point out is as follows:

You will jog for the master race, And always wear the happy face.

He was close, but gets no cigar (He wouldn’t want it anyway, since cigars, at least the good ones, are made by hand, in “sweatshops” that are run by “corporations”).
You see, Japan is where state mandated exercise is the happening thing

Japanese waistlines are bulging, triggering compulsory flab checks in the land of sumo.

A rising rate of corpulence has so alarmed the government that starting next month everyone over age 40 will have to be tested for metabolic syndrome, an obesity-linked condition that increases the risk of heart disease and diabetes.

The new exam is part of a government effort to curb spiraling medical costs. Health-care spending rose 23 percent to 33.1 trillion yen ($320 billion) in the decade ended in 2005, according to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare. It’s projected to double by 2020 and represent 11.5 percent of gross domestic product.

85 Centimeters

Reduced exercise, the adoption of western foods and an aging population have made Japanese men about 10 percent heavier than they were 30 years ago, ministry statistics show. Women are 6.4 percent fatter.

The ministry estimates that half of men over age 40 and 20 percent of women will be diagnosed with metabolic syndrome. For men, a key yardstick is whether they have a waistline wider than 85 centimeters (33.5 inches). Body mass, cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar and smoking will also be taken into account.

Companies will be required to cut the number of overweight workers and dependents by 10 percent as of 2012 and 25 percent by 2015. Failing to do so will result in a surcharge of as much as 10 percent on contributions to a fund for elderly care. Insurance groups paid 6.4 trillion yen into the fund in 2004.

Again, 85 Centimeters is just over 33 1/2 inches.

You, Mr. 36-Inch Waistline, are a tubby fuck in Japan.

And do please notice what is driving this taxation: Socialized Medicine.

Please do remind all your pro-government funded healthcare loving friends that this IS actually happening while they’re alive and breathing. Refer them here if they don’t believe you.

And, because I, having a 42in waistline, would be absolutely huge in Japan (never mind the 36in inseam), I give you Alphavile

Big in Japan – Alphaville

And because I mentioned it at the top of the post

RNS Quote of the Day: 04/10/08

So good, even Glennzilla had this as his QotD

Politicians are like parents who tell you what time to go to bed but can’t put dinner on the table.

And the goose and gander never meet

This post at NRO has a chart that makes a comparison between 1996 and 2008 you should take a peek at.

The main topic is employment.

There are also a couple of nice quotes.

“Bremalo” is comin’ back — you heard it here first

I predict Sir Mix-A-Lot’s infamous epithet condemning female residents of Bremerton, Washington will, within the next few years, have a new meaning — any woman hyper-sexually-aroused by Bremelanotide.

Carl Spana, PhD, CEO of Palatin Technologies, Inc. has been quoted as stating that bremelanotide aroused female rodents “so quickly they started mounting males” and that it may “easily” be made into an oral form.

Can’t wait….

More here, with lots of details.

Social Security Ain’t Going Broke

It’s interesting how the projected date for the supposed Social Security Trust Fund to “go broke” keeps getting pushed farther into the future.

In 2000, the system’s actuaries thought the assets of this fund would be exhausted by 2032. Two years later it was 2037. Now the projected exhaustion date is 2041.

And at least one government scenario is projecting that it won’t ever “go broke.” Not that this is getting a lot of mention in the media, of course.

Tell Me What You Really Believe, Officer

More California: Josh has an extended conversation with a California cop who’s ostensibly pro-gun, and it makes him sick to his stomach.
