My friends Ken Follett and Susan Cheever are extremely worried. Naomi Wolf calls me every day. Yesterday, Jane Fonda sent me an email to tell me that she cried all night and can’t cure her ailing back for all the stress that has reduces her to a bundle of nerves.

My back is also suffering from spasms, so much so that I had to see an acupuncturist and get prescriptions for Valium.

After having stolen the last two elections, the Republican Mafia…

If Obama loses it will spark the second American Civil War. Blood will run in the streets, believe me. And it’s not a coincidence that President Bush recalled soldiers from Iraq for Dick Cheney to lead against American citizens in the streets.

And we all know that Cheney only allows shots to the face.

As for Hanoi Jane’s back troubles, I’ve heard that a number people who spent some seat-time in those NVA anti-aircraft batteries are also complaining of back trouble. I guess that hindsight really is 20/20.

Lovely

Oregon has all mail voting. The leftists in Washington are driving to make this state just like Oregon.

“It’s so convenient.” They say. “It increases turnout.” They crow.

But what they don’t ever want to discuss is that it has to go through the void that is the United States Postal Service.

Just six days before the Election, KING 5 News discovered absentee ballots being left unsecured in a University Place post office.

In fact, the postal service admits the ballots were put in a position where they could be compromised and they blame it on a bad decision.

Jackie Giles was stunned when she walked through the doors at her post office to drop off her absentee ballot.

“It was clear that they were sitting right out in the open there,” she said.

She was greeted with signs directing people to drop off their ballots in an unsecured cart set off to one side of the main counter. She was so concerned, she took pictures of the ballots sitting out in the open.

“In Washington State the last gubernatorial election was decided by 133 votes, so some missing ballots could really make a difference,” she said.

You ballot is just another piece of mail to the USPS.

There is no way I will ever vote by mail. The parking sucks and it is an area that I don’t really feel comfortable in, but if Pierce County ever goes to Mail Only I will drive my ballot to the County Auditor’s office and put it into the ballot machine myself.

Scientists tracking juvenile salmon migrating downstream to the Pacific were surprised to find just as many or more survived going over eight dams on the Northwest’s Snake and Columbia Rivers as survived a major river in British Columbia without any dams at all.

The study, published Monday in the online edition of the journal Public Library of Science Biology, comes as salmon advocates, the Bush administration and dam advocates are locked in a federal court battle over whether the Columbia Basin dam system – a major source of power, irrigation and barge transportation – can be made safe enough for salmon to pass muster under the Endangered Species Act.

After billions of dollars spent over the past 20 years to modifying the dams themselves and changing operations to benefit fish, “It looks like survival levels are now at or above survival levels for the Fraser River, that does not have dams,” Welch added.

Looking at the years 2004-2006, the study found about 25 percent to 30 percent of juvenile spring chinook survived migrating down both river systems, Welch said. The Fraser’s steelhead survival ran about 30 percent and the Columbia’s steelhead survival 20 percent to 25 percent. When the greater time or distance for fish migrating down the Columbia was taken into account, survival over the dams was actually higher.

Six days. Next Wednesday when we wake up, we’ll have a new president.

Umm, no. We’ll have a new President Elect. We won’t have a new President until January 20th, 2009, Joe.

And I’m absolutely positive that if McCain does manage to squeak this one out, that the Obamatrons will run this thing through the courts for months, until January 19th when they’ll have to let McCain take the oath so that it isn’t their hand that gives Bush even an extra second in office.
