As I’ve pitched before. I don’t know if Mankiw’s idea is this dramatic, but Flip Pidot ran the numbers and for the $1.2 trillion the stimulus was (it’s growing), we could cancel all employer-paid payroll taxes for 2 1/2 years, or cancel both employer and employee paid taxes for 1 and 1/4 years.
Using standard economic modeling, such cuts should result in a gain of 2.8 million jobs, Flip found.
I’m sorry, I got the opening line to this post all wrong. Let me try again:

I forgetted this yesterday, but better late than never.
One of my purchases for the house is quite small in comparison to the rest but will serve just as well.
I purchased this model in black. You can think of it as a door peep hole on steroids.
It contains a prism on one side (as seen on the brass model) and has a 2 3/8in viewing window on the other.
I first saw these at my place of employ. We have them in our steel security doors, mostly to make sure that no one is approaching the door when it is opened, causing an injury. You can’t quite read license plates through them, but damn near.
You can stand up to six feet away from the door and see who is on the other side of your door and what they are doing quite clearly. But the best part is that light does not transfer through to their side of the door, so they don’t know you are watching.
For $42 ($35 plus shipping), this little beastie is the next best thing to a CCTV system for your porch. Anyone with a drill, a 2 3/8in hole saw and common sense can install them in less than 20 minutes.

Last Friday, the Senate approved the Coburn Amendment to the Stimulpalooza which states in part
None of the amounts appropriated or otherwise made available by this Act may be used for any casino or other gambling establishment, aquarium, zoo, golf course, swimming pool, stadium, community park, museum, theater, art center, and highway beautification project.
Wise thinking. Gigantic deficit spending should only go to things that are needed, not just that which is wanted.
However, this guy has other ideas
For the purpose of a Keynesian stimulus it doesn’t matter if it’s spent on a park or a highway beautification project. Any spending is better than tax cuts, you could pay people to dig holes and fill them up again and that would be superior to tax cuts. Spending on parks or museums would also be better than military spending, which most of these fools have no problem with, because military spending tends to be very inefficient at creating jobs.

While his arguments on what a park/museum/theater bring a a community are correct, this so-called “stimulus” is supposed to be timely. Building any one of the above mentioned items is not timely.
If the community leaders want to bring those benefits to their jurisdiction then they need to make the case to the locals and tax them appropriately to get it built. If they need a bypass/overpass/offramp/onramp, that can be done. Otherwise, the local jokers are going to have to do their own deficit spending for the item.
And his idea that military spending doesn’t create obs is ludicris. I seem to remember a huge local stink made by the Boeing Machinists Union over the loss of a contract to build refuleing tankers. I guess they were lying to us about how much money that would bring to the region.
I also remember a newstory about layoffs at the Federal Cartridge Company’s plant not too long ago. I guess ammo must be free or something.
The left spend most of 2004-2007 whining about a lack of armor on Humvees and other assorted military vehicles. I guess the people making the steel plating and the people who install it on are working free to show their patriotism.
Do they really forget that easily or are they just stupid?
That they take the taxes out first. Otherwise the stoners will forget and spend it on muchnies.
Marijuana Legalization as an Economic Stimulus
All the discussion about the economic effect of Marijuana legalization seems centered around the tax benefits and savings in police, legal, and incarceration expenses. That argument alone was enough to convince Milton Friedman and 500 other economists — including two other Nobel Laureates — to endorse the Miron report favoring legalization.
It’s a powerful argument, and I’ll be referring to it. But in today’s economic climate, there’s an even more powerful economic argument that, afaik, nobody’s making. Marijuana legalization, over and above the revenue benefits, would provide a strong economic stimulus without the necessity for a New Deal type program.
It is a good read, despite his belief that tax cuts aren’t an effective stimulus. Give it a perusal.
My only objection would be what I mentioned in the opening sentences. But if they run it like they do at the state level the way they do alcohol and cigarettes, I’m giving this idea two thumbs up.

His comment was “That holster looks pretty cool.”
I can tell you right now that it is very cool.
When I went to the range With Chad of Dogtulosba back in December, he was using a CrossBreed holster to CC his Springfield EMP. We had some breakfast beforehand and until we got to the range I had no idea that he was carrying. Granted, it was Seattle in December, but he wasn’t wearing his coat the entire time we were in the restaurant. Having carried for all of my life (post 21), as well as nearly a decade prior to that during my time working behind a gun counter, I can spot pretty much anyone’s efforts to CC around me.
I had CrossBreed linked in my favorites before the great Firefux Crash of 2009 and now that I am reminded of it, I’ll be doing so again. And since I dropped the ball before, I’ll also be putting them in the sidebar and making a purchase when the taxman regurgitates my cash this week.
You should think about it as well if you’re in the market (and in all reality, even if you’re not).

GA woman claiming Obama-related arson charged
A woman who claimed her house was set on fire because she supported President Barack Obama and her boyfriend have been charged with first-degree arson.
Forsyth County Chief Investigator Steve Anderson said Friday that 47-year-old Pamela Graf and her boyfriend, 46-year-old Steve Strobel, are being held in different jails. Graf is in Forsyth County and Strobel in Barrow County, where he was charged with obstruction of justice in the case earlier this week.
No word on whether or not she was behind on her mortgage or if that was a motivating factor. If she was, then fraud charges should also be assigned to her, along with appropriate reparations to the holder of the deed.
So over the weekend my wife and I and our dogs traveled to Tulare for a baby shower for my niece that turned out to be a baby delivery.
