Sounds like the city council of Detroit is denying folks their civil rights

Nowhere is Michigan’s brain drain on greater display than in the Detroit City Council chambers.

My hopes for Detroit’s future faded as I watched the tape of last Tuesday’s council meeting, the one that considered the Cobo Center expansion deal.

It was a tragic circus, a festival of ignorance that confirmed the No. 1 obstacle to Detroit’s progress is the bargain basement leaders that city voters elect. The black nationalism that is now the dominant ideology of the council was on proud display, both at the table and in the audience.

Speakers advocating for the deal were taunted by the crowd and cut short by Council President Monica Conyers, who presided over the hearing like an angry bulldog; whites were advised by the citizens to, “Go home.”

Opponents were allowed to rant and ramble on uninterrupted about “those people” who want to steal Detroit’s assets and profit from the city’s labors.

A pitiful Teamster official who practically crawled to the table on his knees expressing profuse respect for this disrespectful body was battered by both the crowd and the council.

I’d have left, called a lawyer and a cop. And then gone back.

And probably gotten assaulted.

And with the median home price in Detroit being $7500, I’d buy blocks of real estate with my settlement cash.

Not the smartest peanut in the turd

The abuse suffered by women under Sharia Law isn’t the fault of a nearly 1400 year old instruction manual on how to best to beat your wife.

No, it is caused by American cashito.

During the 3:00PM EST hour of MSNBC news coverage, anchor Norah O’Donnell discovered the source of sexism in the Middle East was not Islamic fundamentalism, but rather, capitalism: “And to another big story, is oil behind sexism in the Middle East? It’s a provocative new theory out there today, suggesting the real culprit of the lower status of women in the Middle East is because of the region’s oil wealth.”

O’Donnell then turned to Sally Quinn of the Washington, who wrote about the theory on the newspaper’s On Faith blog: “This is a hot topic, Sally. Do you believe that oil is behind sexism in the Middle East?” Quinn replied: “Well, I do think that it has a lot to do with it…when you have an oil-rich country, there’s much less manufacturing, so that there are fewer jobs for women. But also because the country is so rich that women don’t need to work and therefore they’re comfortable and they stay home.”

Later, O’Donnell concluded: “But it’s a very interesting question, it’s not necessarily Islam, it may be more, and you would know this better than I, as — because of what you’re doing — it may more be the wealth of that country.” Quinn replied: “Well, it is the wealth. The — part of it, too, has to do with culture. I mean, that they come from a culture where women don’t work. And so, because the oil-rich countries, all of the jobs that are involved around oil are much more male-oriented jobs.”

It is amazing she can remember to breathe.

As Tim Blair implies, all that money must account for the historically high number of  honor killings among the natives peoples of Canada and Norway.

All I can do is give thanks to Our savior, President Obama, for having his Interior Department put a lock on the gate for further exploration of the American Shale Oil reserves. Since they’re larger than the entire reserves within the area known as the Middle East, can you imaging the amount of beatings 21st Century American women would have to suffer through if we were actually becoming energy independant!?!

The Smartest Bad Idea

It could turn out to be the world’s longest graffiti space — the massive concrete barrier separating Israel from the Palestinians.

Over the Internet, a group of Palestinian graffiti artists is offering to spray-paint your personal message on Israel’s towering security wall in the occupied West Bank.

It costs 30 euros (28 pounds) per message and they can be as solemn or wacky as you want. Everything goes, except for obscene, offensive or extremist hate speech. Clients get three digital pictures of the finished product.

The 8-metre (25-foot) high barrier of massive concrete slabs is part of a 620-km (385-mile) fence Israel says is intended to keep suicide bombers out, and which can be dismantled at some point in the future when peace reigns.

No, the WNA article doesn’t mention that 95% of the “Wall” is actually only 10ft tall fencing or that the the intended reasoning behind the barrier’s creation is sound and that hundreds, if not thousands, of Israelis are alive today because of it’s construction.

But I thought you might like to know about how the “palestinians” are turning yet another item produced by Israeli blood sweat and tears into cash via bleeding heart leftists.

Big haps

Good, Bad and Ugly Update

Last Wednesday was the cut-off day for bills to leave their respective committees and start their way onto the floor for debate in the Washington State legislature.

On really stupid late comer of a bill that actually made it out was HB 1362 (and its companion SB 5934) which would confiscate the automobile of people (read: Men) bustedfor the high crime of attempting to pick up a hooker.

And as of last Thursday, these are bills of note that didn’t make it.

The Good:
SB 5188 – If a Washington state school district handed someone a diploma and a Washington state college or university discovered that the student needed remedial instruction to bring them to the college level, the graduating school district would have to foot the bill for said instruction. Best way to stop a district from just punting the kid out I can think of. Also the legislative fights between primary and secondary education funding would become legendary.
Would have required school districts to pay colleges for any and all remedial education needed to bring the college freshman up to college level if said district gave the kid a diploma

SB 8402 – Would stop stupid bills (like SB 5336 allowing dogs in bars) from being presented in the legislature until all budgetary matters had been taken care of.

SB 5213 – Was our state’s bill that would have required a state issued ID to vote.

SB 5217 – Would have stopped the wasting of public money to place “art” in prisons. The current requirement is 1% of the budget goes to art. That is idiotic on a good day and suicidal in times of deficit spending. A penny saved and such.

SB 5362 – This was the best minimum wage bill proposed. It would have suspended increases to the nation’s highest minimum wage (currently $8.55 and hour) and tied it to the Consumer Price Index. The hyper leftists demanded its death so as to encourage a lack of need to gather workable skills among the lazy.

The Bad:

SB 5476 – Thankfully, this turd that would have abolished the state’s death penalty was put down. Unclear if it was by lethal injection or hanging.

The Ugly:

SB 5857- At least one blatantly nanny state law got “choked out” in committee. This one would have been our “anti-artificial Trans-Fat” bill.
