Remember, each one of those blocks weighs eighty-five pounds. My lower back is shredded (not least because Mom came by this weekend to help and pride wouldn’t let me stop while she was still going….) Still got six pallets left to go!

Why I quit watching

And quit buying the DVDs

MacFarlane put himself in the shoes of the “Voice of Reason”. And since he’s a liberal douche, so now is the character he ruined.

What I’ve Been Doing, or, Ow, that freakin’ HURTS

I ain’t blogged much for a while. Here’s why.

So a ways back, we had some stone delivered. Got a deal and couldn’t pass it up.
IMG00319.jpg First I had to clear the side yard. As Phil can testify, it never is this empty. (All pics are click-to-embiggen.)
IMG00315.jpgNext, my uncles came by with a cousin’s CAT they “borrowed” (sorry Hal!) and ripped out the old, badly rotted retaining wall.

The next morning, a tractor-trailer rig with eight pallets of stone block pulled up in front of the house.

IMG00323.jpgIMG00321.jpgIMG00334.jpg

Interestingly, the forklift was just riding on the forks stuck into the back of the trailer frame. I’d never seen that before. This was a BIG forklift, too — eight-and-a-half feet wide.
IMG00326.jpgIMG00330.jpgIMG00325.jpgThe forklift BARELY fit through the side gate.

I was quite pleased (and relieved) to see that my homemade, bashed-together deck was able to withstand several tons of machines and pallets with no significant damage. It did creak like a wooden railroad bridge, though, which was amusing and terrifying at the same time.

After each load the driver had a tricky time turning around in the tight space available.

IMG00332.jpgThanks, dude! See ya!IMG00333.jpg

Behold, pallets! (also note the 2000 cu. ft. stack of trash and stuff at left waiting for David…)

Did I mention each block of stone weighs about eighty-five pounds? Guess who’s been moving them, one by one? My back, that’s who! More on that tomorrow….

Sick bastards

Sebastian had a blog post up on the topic of the tragic murder of Melanie Hain titled  “The Tasteless Article of the Day”.

I’m going to have to one-up him with “The Tasteless Blog Post of the Day”

From John Aravosis’ AmericaBlog, a post titled “Who ever could have seen this coming?” where is comments are

“Will people ever get over the strange obsession with guns?”

Leading his commenters to say such things as

“Poetic Justice now what does the Right Wing Wacko machine have to say.” – Proud Liberal 1947

“Guns in the hands of idiots: God’s way of chlorinating the gene pool!” – pjb863

“No offense but now there are 2 less right wing wacko gun nuts running around. Do feel sorry for the kids though.” – Doughh

“it would be funny if real life was actually the cartoon that gun nuts like soccer mom think it is.” – PeteWa

Lovely bunch of folks, don’t you think?

The Rule Hasn’t Changed

Don’t trust a hippie!

Just being around green products can make us behave more altruistically, a new study to be published in a forthcoming issue of Psychological Science has found.

But buying those same products can have the opposite effect. Researchers found that buying green can lead people into less altruistic behaviour, and even make them more likely to steal and lie than after buying conventional products. Buying products that claim to be made with low environmental impact can set up “moral credentials” in people’s minds that give license to selfish or questionable behavior.

The findings break down like this: Greenies believe that because they’re more “correct” with their purchases and/or lifestyle, they can be less moral in other areas, such as money and honesty to others.

I guess they’re just living by the AlGore example.

WTF!?! Really?

Ladybug Soccer has gone big time, baybay!

He gets a prize just for showing up?

Anyone who still believes the Nobel Committee still has any credibility needs to have their voter card removed.

Well, if that is the way the world is going to operate from now on, I’ll be posting a hard-hitting piece on the subject of a piece of lint I found in my navel shortly after I’m awarded the Pulizter for it.

The Soundboard: Keepin’ my head down Edition

I don’t know what it is, but since getting the ball officially rolling on the re-fi I just haven’t been able to get jack-shit done and am finding that I have to lower my head to keep moving forward against the oncoming wind of this damn week.

Anyone know anything about karma, because it seems that maybe now that the mortgage numbers are getting so good that I am being held back on everything else. Which is why I haven’t blogged about the FTC, the idiotic gun show video intended to help pass a law that will make selling a firearm to a felon even more illegal-er, damn near anything on Obamacare, or any of the pro-McDonald essays I’ve found. I just can’t produce the time to sort those posts into something readable.

Maybe I’ve had the hoodoo set upon me?

Dr. John – I Been Hoodood

Either way, my brain does feel as though it’s been reduced to 1 Watt, like what happened to this guy.

The albums these tracks are from can be found here and here, respectively.

Enjoy!

The Invisible Hand

It’s almost as though we’d have to put it out in comic book form for them to understand it. They need the pictures, I guess.

Stiff competition from thousands of America’s mom-and-pop marijuana farmers threatens the bottom line for powerful Mexican drug organizations in a way that decades of arrests and seizures have not, according to law-enforcement officials and pot growers in the United States and Mexico.

Marijuana production in the United States has been increasing steadily for decades. But recent changes in state laws that allow the use and cultivation of marijuana for medical purposes are giving U.S. growers a competitive advantage, challenging the traditional dominance of Mexican traffickers who once made brands such as Acapulco Gold the standard for quality.

Almost all marijuana consumed in the multibillion-dollar U.S. market once came from Mexico or Colombia. As much as half now is produced domestically, often by small-scale operators who painstakingly tend greenhouses and indoor gardens to produce the more potent, and expensive, product that consumers now demand, according to authorities and marijuana dealers on both sides of the border.

It’s that damn invisible hand of the free market again!

Make a better product and people will pay more for it and refuse the lesser product, making the producer of the better product richer and he of the lesser product poorer.

If they want to ditch the south of the border cartels altogether, along with a large percentage of the crime they bring with them: End marijuana prohibition.

Enterprising people will be growing it in their back yards. The lazy will just buy it from them and the Mexican cartels can eat Chupacabra droppings.
