What I’ve Been Doing, or, Ow, that freakin’ HURTS

I ain’t blogged much for a while. Here’s why.

So a ways back, we had some stone delivered. Got a deal and couldn’t pass it up.
IMG00319.jpg First I had to clear the side yard. As Phil can testify, it never is this empty. (All pics are click-to-embiggen.)
IMG00315.jpgNext, my uncles came by with a cousin’s CAT they “borrowed” (sorry Hal!) and ripped out the old, badly rotted retaining wall.

The next morning, a tractor-trailer rig with eight pallets of stone block pulled up in front of the house.

Interestingly, the forklift was just riding on the forks stuck into the back of the trailer frame. I’d never seen that before. This was a BIG forklift, too — eight-and-a-half feet wide.
IMG00326.jpgIMG00330.jpgIMG00325.jpgThe forklift BARELY fit through the side gate.

I was quite pleased (and relieved) to see that my homemade, bashed-together deck was able to withstand several tons of machines and pallets with no significant damage. It did creak like a wooden railroad bridge, though, which was amusing and terrifying at the same time.

After each load the driver had a tricky time turning around in the tight space available.

IMG00332.jpgThanks, dude! See ya!IMG00333.jpg

Behold, pallets! (also note the 2000 cu. ft. stack of trash and stuff at left waiting for David…)

Did I mention each block of stone weighs about eighty-five pounds? Guess who’s been moving them, one by one? My back, that’s who! More on that tomorrow….

  1. Phil says:

The forklift is called a Donkey. That looks like one of the heavier duty models, but essentially like the ones we use to repossess dumpsters at my place of employ.

  2. Davidwhitewolf says:

…damn Democrats, getting their hands into everything….
