The Soundboard: Red Devil Edition

These folks are just freakin’ awesome. The song is “Diablo Rojo.” You won’t make it past the 2:20 mark without banging your head. When’s the last time you went all headbanger on an acoustic track? When was the last time you saw this kind of technical ability from a thrash metal guitarist?

Okay, okay, here’s some frankly glorious metal, from a movie that involved some diabolic characters:

The MP3 download is available here.

And in a slightly different vein, a song about another Red Devil. Well, maybe just a person with a reddish-colored name. I first heard this live in a basement in Davis, and it simply is… well, it’s Cake, you gotta crank it!

Finally, a topical song by a Red-Haired Devil, the man who should have played the Joker in the Batman movies (not only does he have the smile, he’s got the voice). That would be Danny Elfman, and “Capitalism” provides Thursday’s Quote of the Day, too:

You know, I hate plaintiffs’ lawyers, but…

…this woman deserved every penny of the $40,000 settlement she apparently got from the cops.

I blame it on Bill Clinton

Say whatever you like about the man, he definitely caused popular culture worldwide to leapfrog forward several decades on the trendline of sex becoming “just another activity” in the minds of people (and kids) worldwide:

One 14-year-old girl told him she started compensated dating when she lost her cell phone. She said her parents wouldn’t buy her a new one, so she thought she could earn some fast money with paid sex. She had her eye on an expensive cell phone. When the money from the first compensated date didn’t cover the cost for the new phone, she went on a second paid date.

Oh Nooo, the RAIIINNNN!

We’ve got our first storm of the season here in the Bay Area, and of course everyone’s driving off the roads (150+ CHP traffic incident hazards during commute hours this morning, for example) because a few inches of rain and some gusty winds are the Bay Area equivalent of a typhoon. As a former Oregonian, I still scoff at them all.

I did, however, forget to clean my gutters. So I popped out the ladder and did so at lunch. My coworkers were astonished when I told them I’d actually gone outside in this weather to do some work without undue incident.

Sigh.  Californians are, sadly, weather wimps.

Wireless Power Charging

Looks like it’s here. The efficiency is probably horrible, but who cares?

RNS Quote of the Day: 10/12/09

Gratuitously stolen from Samizdata.Net

Upon reflection, I think all the mockery will cease when Barack Obama walks across the Atlantic Ocean to accept His prize.

Robert Bidinotto

I’d pay to watch him try.

Get me to a doctor!

I read the story at the link below and am now blind and in pain. I believe that it is an overload of stupid.

Wait, the spinning is slowing and I…I think my vision is returning. I see an immense monolith. I’m going get a closer look at it. The…the thing’s hollow – it goes on forever – and – oh my God – it’s full of stars.

One in three kids believe Google measures truthiness.

Phil cannot continue posting at this time as he is currently writhing around on the floor while grabbing his head in pain. He is also screaming something about how those ruddy little bastards don’t deserve to have the world left to them and repeating the phrase “Nuke The All!!!!!1!”.

Posting will continue when his situation improves.

More death and destruction

AKA: The Joys of Socialized Medicine Part 40927125.2

Errors by NHS staff led to 5,700 deaths in six months, report says

But don’t worry, the increasing number of people dying from neglect is only because NHS employees are being more honest in reporting errors, so its a good thing!

WTF are they doing over there? If I didn’t know that the police only allow criminals to own and use firearms I’d almost have to believe that their treatment plan for a broken arms was a bullet to the back of the head.

All your rent are belong to us

Are you a former homeowner who signed a truly horrible mortgage without reading the paperwork because you just had to buy right then?

Or, are you a lifetime renter who never wants the responsibility of owning property?

Then syndicated columnist, Neil Peirce, is on your side!

That’s right, Peirce want the federal government, as well as your state and local governments, to subsidize your ability to take up someone else’s space.

Will you never qualify for a standard home loan because you can’t keep your credit score above 600 in your quest to have all the latest fashions, home entertainment electronics and recreational items?

Peirce wants a government plan for you!

Does your inability to hold down a steady job because your stupid bosses are unable to understand that letting your hair down a couple times a week sometimes means you can’t come into work the next day and keeps you from getting a loan?

He’s got a plan to get you a government check!

So listen to Neil. He’ll tell you all about the government money you deserve.
