Be careful who you volunteer for

You might be branded a racist.

I need to clear this up before I go apeshit crazy.

A Sheriff in Bossier Parrish, LA has decided that the citizenry, and not the police/Nat’l Guard, will be the ones to provide the bulk of the security during an emergency. His name is Sheriff Larry Deen. He has enlisted former keepers of the peace and military folks known to him to recruit folks known to them as volunteers for what amounts to a Civil Defense Organization.

The cost are minimal. The people are all local. Think of it as a neighborhood watch within a county instead of a neighborhood.

However, he screwed up one thing in a big way. He named it “Operation Exodus”.

This, of course, perked up the ears of the media folks. The first guy to write about it, from what I can tell, was a jackass from Shreveport named Drew Pierson, who, using his immense knowledge of the two Testaments of the Bible, immediately decided that the Good Sheriff Deen was focusing on preparing a paramilitary force to prepare for a Revelations style Apocalypse.

This story was then picked up by the goobers at TPM, and shortly thereafter found by MSNBC half-wit, Rachel Maddow, who aired a segment on it last night.

The focus was on 195 white southern males out of the total of 200 volunteers, the Bible, the shotguns the Sheriff says he’ll issue if the SHTF, a video of the project’s hand-to-hand training class, and that women who volunteer will only be working in “support roles”.

As you can probably guess, neither TPM and Maddow could be bothered to talk to the Sheriff or anyone involved in the and took all their facts from Pierson’s report.

They completely forgot to mention, because it was convenient, that Bossier County went through a natural disasternot too long ago where strangers were making an “Exodus” of sorts through their county. You’ll remember it as Hurricane Katrina. They don’t remember it unless they can whine about Republicans and the people who work for them.

Personally, if Pierce County Sheriff Paul Pastor offered what the Good Sheriff Deen is offering his residents, I’d take the opportunity in a heartbeat. Even if he named it “Operation Exodus”.

That darn Glowball Warmening

In yr oceanz. Trapn yr boats.

A number of ships, including ferries with more than 1,000 passengers on board, have become stuck in ice in the Baltic Sea, officials say.

The ferries are stranded in the waters between Stockholm and the Aland Islands, while cargo boats are stuck in the Bay of Bothnia.

Many of the vessels are not likely to be freed for hours, the Swedish maritime authorities say.

These courses are regularly travelled and have been for decades. But remember, the planet has a fever.

I found this via the DailyPundit blog. However, since “genes” published it there, the BBC has replaced the original article where the above quote is from with a different one that downplays the significance of the “event”. So no links to those pillocks.

IWW Starbucks Workers Union Statement Regarding Openly Homossexual Activity in Starbucks Stores

A healthy and safe work environment is the highest priority of the IWW Starbucks Workers Union. We also believe strongly that citizens exercising their rights under the law are entitled to respect.

The spread of pathogens amongst fast food workers and customers is a common occurrence that cannot be overlooked, and Starbucks is no exception. We appreciate the vigorous debate taking place by principled individuals on both sides of this issue. However, to date we are not aware of any efforts by Starbucks to widely engage its workers who are directly affected by homosexual activity and the spread of the human immunodeficiency virus. We believe an appropriate solution cannot be reached without doing so. We remain open to all stakeholders working toward a positive resolution that respects Starbucks workers’ right to a safe work environment.

Just as it was earlier this week, this mock press release makes about as much sense as the original.

Which Bitch is Which?

Some will ridicule this taxonomy of bitches by a latter-day Linnaeus, but I’m impressed considering the source. I’d say the reforms of the D.C. school system are having an effect. Classification of one’s surroundings is the mark of an orderly, inquisitive, and reasoning mind. In a third-grader, no less. Bravo, budding young scientist/engineer/logician/astronaut/whatever!

Seriously: I used to make this sort of list all the time. Just not of bitches.

Mitch Daniels for President?

He’s getting lots of buzz from the not-sold-on-Romney folks. If he’s as gun-friendly as I assume, he’d have the Indiana wing of the gunblogosphere doing free publicity. Since that’s a big chunk of the gunblogosphere, I think, that’s somewhat significant.

Mitch Daniels trial balloon piece here.

My wife would vote for him just because he looks like Peyton Manning.

RNS Quote of the Day: 03/04/10 (The Second)

From a former GFW

The notion that citizens have no good reason to be armed, because the State can protect them from violent crime, is one of the most dangerous lies Big Government has fed its subjects. The government reduces crime through the police and court systems, but no matter how tirelessly the police work, there is very little chance they can actively defend you from assault. There aren’t enough of them, and there never could be. The very areas of privacy that allow us to relax with our friends and families will always be soft targets for criminals… unless we fortify them ourselves. The police arrived at my house several minutes too late to play a role in my attempted execution. They made excellent time – there happened to be a unit in the area. If things had gone a little different, they might have arrived just in time to avenge me.

Vocabulary Test

Question: Please include in the comment box a synonym for liars.

Context for the question:

After two studies refuted President Barack Obama’s assertions regarding the success of Spain’s and Denmark’s wind energy programs, a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request reveals the Department of Energy turned to George Soros and to wind industry lobbyists to attack the studies.

Via the FOIA request, the Competitive Enterprise Institute has learned that the Department of Energy — specifically the office headed by Al Gore’s company’s former CEO, Cathy Zoi — turned to George Soros’ Center for American Progress and other wind industry lobbyists to help push Obama’s wind energy proposals.

The FOIA request was not entirely complied with, and CEI just filed an appeal over documents still being withheld. In addition to withholding many internal communications, the administration is withholding communications with these lobbyists and other related communications, claiming they constitute “inter-agency memoranda.” This implies that, according to the DoE, wind industry lobbyists and Soros’s Center for American Progress are — for legal purposes — extensions of the government.

I’m more than just a little bit serious with this, as the only words rolling through my head when I read the context article is: Bastards!

Yes, with the exclamation point.

Extreme OSHA

In the US, a piece of paper printed with an order of protection from the legal system will not stop you from being killed.

In the UK, a piece of paper printed with a memo from the legal system will actually kill you.

An injured woman lay for six hours at the foot of a disused mine shaft because safety rules banned firefighters from rescuing her, an inquiry heard yesterday. As Alison Hume was brought to the surface by mountain rescuers she died of a heart attack.

A senior fire officer at the scene admitted that crews could only listen to her cries for help, after she fell down the 60ft shaft, because regulations said their lifting equipment could not be used on the public. A memo had been circulated in Strathclyde Fire and Rescue stations months previously stating that it was for use by firefighters only.

Citizen in life/death situation: Check

Well maintained equipment capable of rendering life saving aide available to rescue said citizen: Check

Memo stating use by/on non-fire & rescue personell is not allowed: Check

Dead citizen: Check

Fucking drones.

This is what happens when you’re raised to read and obey everything the government and your “Superiors” tell you.

PSH in the Leftosphere

First up, the Starbucks Stance (aka: not “feet planted firmly, pistol in the strong hand, designer beverage of choice in the weak hand, engage target/s”)

Chris at AmericaBlog calls Starbucks decision to not ban firearms on their property “Gutless”. Because the people who refused service to blacks in the early-mid 20th Century were so brave.

Speaking of Bigotry, in one of the best analogies you’ll ever see on a left-wing blog, one good guy got into the comment thread and started challenging their bigotry against law abiding citizens who happen to be gun owning coffee drinkers by comparing it to the bigotry of the anti-Gay marriage crowd. He’s sub-MOA analogy is promptly derided as false equivalence.

Next up, John Amato of the hyper-hate blog, Crooks & Liars, takes on McDonald by first stuffing his head all the way up his rectum and then reading as many fear-mongering MSM articles as he can find:

The right is using four citizens to represent their wishes. By not making the NRA the lead on this one is a smart one, but with this court does chess playing really matter? By allowing so many guns to be sold, which puts more guns into the hands of criminals—it’s not surprising that some people want to arm themselves against the criminals who have guns. Only in the end, many more people will get hurt.

Umm, no. But thanks for playing, Amato.

RNS Quote of the Day, 03/04/10

It is time to stop this government in its tracks, take it back democratically in the fall, or it then becomes time to bring this government down.

This neophyte, this joke we have in the White House has absolutely no idea of the force and the rage he is about to unleash on him and his entire political party. If there are not enough responsible adults left within his party to rein in this accidental, affirmative action jerk, this self-styled, extremely flawed little man, then his party is worthless to America. It deserves to be marginalized electorally and, ultimately, utterly destroyed, before being relegated to the dung heap of history with the rest of the marxist, socialist clowns Americans have dispatched before.

Reconciliation for this disaster of a destructive health care bill I doubt anyone on the Hill can fully define means all out war. The only question remaining is, whose side are you on?
