How Does BP Compensate Gulf Coast Folks When They’re All Tax Cheats?

During my recent sojourn in the hospital, I had some interesting conversations with a particularly cynical nurse, a refugee from New Orleans. He’d lived in various places along the Gulf Coast most of his life before quitting his CPA job with one of the (at the time) Big Eight accounting firms to become a nurse, which he found more ethically fulfilling.

Anyway, he said the vast, vast majority of folks’ incomes along the Gulf Coast are cash-under-the-table. If BP is faced with a claim for compensation from a fellow with a million-dollar-a-year shrimping operation, but he reported a $20,000 income on his tax return, what’s BP to do?

That is how much your government gladly spent to help to destroy a firearm.

But it didn’t just help to destroy one.

It helped to destroy 1.4 million of them.

And it gave that money to the UN to do the destroying.

Let that bounce around your head the next time you’re at the range.

And if you haven’t already, think about finding your own $92.86 and join up with the GOA, the NRA and the JPFO. For that amount of money, you can join all three and still take yourself out to lunch.

Calling Gamers: Try Stabilizing the Federal Debt

The game is here. Try it — it’s fun! Goal is to drop the federal debt to 60% of GDP within a certain number of years. Takes about five minutes of your time. Most frustrating thing is that some things you might want to choose (zero out the Education Department budget!) aren’t choices. On the other hand, everything listed is within the bounds of what’s politically possible now, with a slight leftward trend, of course (impose a 5% VAT is of course one of the options).  Story here.

I got 63% without too much trouble, and I’d quibble by saying that extra 3% (or more!) would have been made up by the increased tax revenue from all the economic growth I started by slashing taxes. But nooo, that’s not in their scenario (I think). Anyway, a fun and interesting exercise.

He’s a success

For his party. Not for America.

We’ve all already heard about the problem with the DOJ and the dropping of almost all the charges in the case against the New Black Panthers.

But it gets worse.

For more than three years the DOJ was pursuing a case against the state of Missouri pertaining to their voting lists having more people registered than there were eligible voters. Within two months of the beginning of the Obamanation, DOJ dropped the case that had prevailed in a number of smaller courts.

No reason was given.

Now, the Secretary of State of Missouri, Robin Carnahan, has announced she will be running for the US Senate. In the past, she had fought the DOJ case against her state’s voting lists by stating that “her office had no obligation to ensure individual counties were complying with the federal law mandating a cleanup of their voter rolls.”

And it is those doctored voting rolls that will likely put her in the US Senate.

As President. Obama is the leader of his party. His job as leader of his party is to help get more Democrats elected to the various local, state and federal offices. In that regard, he’s a success.

And that he is a success at that and at little else other than pissing off more than half the US population needs to be pointed out every single day.

There is some flak here and here about how the newest leader of the U.S. Central Command has described shooting the enemy as “fun”. I’m wondering how many Marines those folks actually know. The man has solid reasoning behind his statement.
