Caution!

Thinking about this line of reasoning will give you a headache.

The website of a 501 (c)(4) group calling themselves the Council of Conservative Citizens was visited by the guy who shot up the AME church in Charleston, S.C.. So, of course, they influenced his hateful beliefs.

The leftosphere believes this, anyway.

Because they are a 501 (c)(4), they don’t pay taxes on their incoming contributions. Because of this, the leftosphere also believes that this means the CCC is funded by tax payers (because they don’t pay taxes, and all the money belongs to the government).

That’s right. The CCC is a 501(c)(4 )tax-exempt organization which claims to be organized for social welfare. As such, it pays no taxes as other for-profit organizations do, which means those taxes you pay help the CCC stay in the business of promoting white supremacy.

Which, of course, leads to the reasoning that the CCC haven’t had their (c)(4) status revoked is because of “the made up IRS hullabaloo.”

It must be so mentally exhausting to be a progressive. Coming up with these flaky theories causes their logic centers to shrink until they no longer work.

The King of the Weiners

Last weekend, The Wife appraoched me with a picture of three Dachshunds asking how cute I thought they were. I said they’d look a lot cuter if we didn’t already have four dogs. She scrunched her face up and said they’d be visiting us.

I balked, but she went to shush me and laid out the scenario: A dog hoarder in Aberdeen, WA was busted for having waaaay too many dogs (more than a dozen). Mostly Doxxie’s and Doxxie mixes. Even though Dachshunds are generally easy to adopt out, the local rescue was overwhelmed, but they had a woman with a rescue in Spokane who could help out, but the two towns are damn near as far apart as two towns can be and still be within the boundaries of the state.

They had someone who could get them to Tacoma, and the Spokane rescue could meet somewhere in the middle to take them the rest of the way. So she volunteered to make the hand off yesterday after work and then take today off work and run the middle section of the relay.

So I’d like to introduce Loras, Tommen, and Benjen.

They stayed with us last night and will be heading east this morning.

Sometimes it only takes some time and gas money to help make a dog’s life better.

As the saying goes

If you want something done right, just do it yourself.

Back in August, the neighborhood “cluster” mailbox was attacked with a prybar by tweakers in the hopes that they might find something worth of value inside.

It was reported to the police and to the USPS. They stopped delivering to the box and we have been going to the not-so-nearby postal annex to pick up our mail ever since.

At first the USPS said that they would fix it or replace it. In 4-6 weeks. After about two months of waiting, the box still wasn’t fixed. We asked our carrier and she didn’t know why. So I asked the folks at the postal annex, and they didn’t know why either.

Another month or so goes by and I keep asking. I finally get an answer: The USPS decided that the box isn’t their responsibility because the developer put in when the neighborhood was built up in 1991/92, so the box is the responsibility of our HOA.

We don’t have an HOA.

I spoke to the USPS and if the individual households put up their own mail box, say, at the end of their driveways, the carriers won’t (or don’t have to) deliver to them because of the previous “cluster” box. So that option was right out.

I was also thinking of building a covered mailbox pen where each household could just bolt their own mailbox on to and then charging each household a portion for it. But that would require getting everyone to buy a mailbox first and then attempt to fit them all in a space five feet wide (any wider and it will be blocking someone’s driveway). You know there is always one asshole who has to have a mondo mailbox that wouldn’t fit. That, and getting money out of a neighbor can be….straining to the harmony of the neighborhood.

Since December I have been asking the manufacturer for parts so that my metal-working self could repair the box. First they said no parts were available for that model as it was discontinued 10 years ago. Shortly thereafter, they contacted me to say that they found some parts. I placed my order, got the parts, but they weren’t actually the right parts.

This happened three times. The manufacturer finally gave up and returned to the “there are no parts” line. They placed me with one of their local vendors/suppliers so that we could buy a new “cluster box”.

12-door-cbu

For $1200.

The vendor put an expiration date on the price two weeks out from the date of the email. The price went up after that. Trying to get 12 households together in each coughing up $100 is akin to herding cats on LSD, and we missed the close date.

I finally collected $1100 of the $1200 this weekend and decided to take the model number the vendor supplied with their quote and used the intarwebz to see if there were any cheaper vendors.

This is still America (a little bit), and there sure as hell was.

I deleted the $75 pedestal, since we already have one of those, and the total, with shipping, came out to $1020. Everyone gets $15 dollars back. The remaining household now only owes me $85 and will get the keys to their mail slot when I get my money.

It should be here in a week and I’ll have it installed shortly thereafter.

Then all we have to do is wait for the USPS to mosey their pimpled posteriors up here to put their locks into it and I no longer have to take part of my Saturday and stand in line at the postal annex.

Yay for me. (notice there is no exclamation point there)

It’s only other people’s money

Surely the children didn’t “need” it

Neil S. Rodgers, a former D.C. government official, was sentenced Tuesday for his role in the misappropriation of $110,000 earmarked for D.C.’s Children at Risk and Drug Prevention Fund to cover a deficit for the 51st State Inaugural Ball for President Obama’s inauguration in 2009. Rodgers, found guilty of fraud in March, was sentenced to 36 days (served on weekends) plus two years of probation. Rodgers must also repay the entire $110,000 as restitution for his crime.

So, we have confirmation that the President got his balls. Tis a pity he never uses them against anyone but the law abiding, working citizens of the country he is supposedly in charge of.

Sounds about right.

Donald Trump pretending he’s a viable candidate for the presidency reminds me of that time Denise Richards pretended to be a nuclear scientist in The World is Not Enough.

Except that Denise Richards is much nicer to look at.

Meant to post this yesterday, but by noon PST today, I’ll have 53 hours on my work time card. Not complaining. Just saying.

Texas does it again

When someone is “holding on to” your gold for you, it is best to get it back

With Eye on Fiscal Armageddon, Texas Set to ‘Repatriate’ Its Gold To New Texas Fort Knox

On Friday, Gov. Greg Abbott signed legislation that will create a state-run gold depository in the Lone Star State – one that will attempt to rival those operated by the U.S. government inside Fort Knox and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s vault in lower Manhattan. “The Texas Bullion Depository,” Abbott said in a statement, “will become the first state-level facility of its kind in the nation, increasing the security and stability of our gold reserves and keeping taxpayer funds from leaving Texas to pay for fees to store gold in facilities outside our state.” Soon, Abbott’s office said, the state “will repatriate $1 billion of gold bullion from the Federal Reserve in New York to Texas.”

Please don’t let this be a joke.

Losing Our Freedom$

Until 2000, the United States participated in the world’s march toward greater economic freedom, its score rising from 7.6 in 1970 to 8.65 in 2000, when the country ranked second only to Hong Kong in economic freedom. Since then, U.S. economic freedom has been faltering, declining to 7.74 in 2011 and dropping the United States out of the Top 15 in the worldwide rankings.

This is an example of why

Leftists and progressives are not actually “pro-choice”

Nevada Leaps Forward Nationally with Education Savings Accounts

Nevada as a trailblazer in education? Underachieving, Third-World Nevada setting a new national standard in school policy that other states are destined to follow?

Believe it. And it never, ever would have happened if a Republican Legislature and governor weren’t in power.

The sweeping education reform agenda passed by Nevada lawmakers and signed by Gov. Brian Sandoval included a groundbreaking school choice provision: nearly universal education savings accounts, or ESAs. Starting next year, parents will be able to withdraw their children from public school, gain control of the tax revenue that funded their enrollment, and spend that money on an educational program that’s best suited for them. ESAs are much better and more flexible than school vouchers for two reasons.

“First, the ESAs move from school choice to educational choice. Not all learning takes place in a classroom. By changing the education funding mechanism to reflect that reality, Nevada will allow parents to better tailor their children’s education to meet their unique learning needs,” said Jason Bedrick, policy analyst for the Cato Institute’s Center for Educational Freedom.

“Second, whereas the entire amount of the voucher had to be spent in one place at one time, the ESA funds can be spent on multiple educational products and services, and families can save unspent funds for the future. … Overnight, Nevada has become the most interesting state for education reform.”

No progressive will ever support something like this because it breaks parent’s and children’s dependency upon the public (aka: government controlled) education system.

As this news filters through the leftosphere, I guarantee that they will compare this to child abuse and declare that Nevada will soon return to the dark ages.
