Finally!

Sorry for the delay, but the June e-Postal match results have finally been tallied. We had two factors in their being late: My lazy self, and a prescheduled late entry. So, again, sorry fro the delay, but let’s get on with it.

There were four classes that the folks attempted. They were Class One (any rimfire pistol w/iron sights) and Class Two (any rimfire pistol w/optics) and Class Five (any rimfire revolver w/iron sights) and the Rimfire Rifle/Carbine Optics Class (any rimfire rifle or carbine w/optics).

Our overall winner, as well as the Class Five winner is Pat B. with his S&W 617 and their score of 8.

The Class One winner is Bill with his Ruger Mk I and their score of 6.

The Class Two winner is True Blue Sam and his Ruger Mk III and their score of 5.

The Rifle/Carbine winner is Bill and his Remington Nylon 66 and their score of 5.

A great big thank you to all who participated for another successful e-Postal Match. Hope to see you all again next year.

Art Imintates Life

Poland does something beautiful

GDANSK, Poland — Polish officials unveiled a statue of former President Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II on Saturday, honoring two men widely credited in this Eastern European country with helping to topple communism 23 years ago.

The statue was unveiled in Gdansk, the birthplace of Lech Walesa’s Solidarity movement, in the presence of about 120 former Solidarity activists, many of whom were imprisoned in the 1980s for their roles in organizing or taking part in strikes against the communist regime.

The bronze statue, erected in the lush seaside President Ronald Reagan Park, is a slightly larger-than-life rendering of the two late leaders. It was inspired by an Associated Press photograph taken in 1987 on John Paul’s second pontifical visit to the U.S.

The photographer who took the picture, Scott Stewart, expressed satisfaction that one of his pictures has helped immortalize “a wonderful moment in time between the two men.”

Like I said, a beautiful thing.

The Illustrator’s Illustrator

Downtime today = going through old issues of Comics Buyers’ Guide from the 1990s, noting comics and artists I want to check out, and adding them to the Amazon wishlist.

In the middle of all this, I happened to look at Howard Chaykin’s wikipedia entry and stumbled across Robert Fawcett. Very cool stuff.

Summer Reading for those 50 Shades Addicts

I keep running into women who gigglingly “admit”* to devouring the 50 Shades of Grey trilogy, and want MOAR, but don’t know where to turn.

You will too, this summer, I guarantee it.

Point them towards the excellent Topping From Below by Laura Reese. It’s chock-full of plenty of BDSM kink, but it’s literate. You know, with good writing. Correct grammar. An actually interesting murder-thriller plot. And some really great vengeance. Everything a good novel needs that those 50-Shades addicts didn’t know they were missing, they were panting so hard.

It’s set in my former ag-college hometown of Davis, California, so there’s that. The infamous Davis pig barn makes an appearance, heh, heh.

On Kindle for $3.99 so your friends can be discreet. (Snort.*) Check it out.

*All the tumult about discreet e-book sales driving the success of this trilogy doesn’t wash with me. They’re in paperback at Costco, fer frack’s sake. At this point, carrying one around is a status badge for certain women, IYKWIMAITYD.
