No Boomershoot for Me Either

I am sad to announce that as with Phil and Scott, I too will not be attending Boomershoot, for the first time since 2007. That leaves RNS Staff Photographer Dave from Michigan as the lone Random Nuclear Strikes representative. However, he can outshoot most of us, I suspect, and has all the awesome gear, so we’ll be well-represented. One recalls Kennedy’s quote about Jefferson dining alone….

Anyway, my absence is literally due to Orwell’s “boot-heel stamping on a human face, forever” — that is, government audits of my employer, expected but horrendously ill-timed — but more on that later.

As slight compensation, my wife and I are treating ourselves to Zephyr’s Cigar Dinner — a prix fixe meal with a selection of cigars, on their streetside patio. This is extremely unusual in California and I haven’t quite figured out how they beat the zoning restrictions, but I’m not going to quibble!

Pics from Zephyr shortly.

The Cupboard is Bare….

Finally got my remaining ammo stock sorted and this is most of it:

Sadly, that crate at center is several thousand rounds of plastic 14fpe .308 training ammo. I’m saving that for when I want to shoot steel targets in my back yard….

I have enough real .308 and .223 for another live-fire training class or two (and Boomershoot!), but that stuff goes fast.

Looks like plenty of 20 and 12 gauge, but in actuality, between birdshot, buck and slug there’s not a lot of each type.

Today in Progressivism

I found myself a small stash of really messed up people posting their ramblings on the interwebz and would like to share them with you for you entertainment.

Women are “statistically not good” at math and science, so it must be a plot by men to keep women down.

Yeah.

I should be able to do this daily for a couple weeks, so long as the supply keeps up.

Taking his oath seriously

John Cooke, Sheriff of Weld County, Colorado, has stated that he will refuse to enforce the state’s newest civil rights violations passed by the Democrats in the state House.

Weld County Sheriff John Cooke said he won’t enforce either gun-control measure waiting to be signed into law by Gov. John Hickenlooper, saying the laws are “unenforceable” and would “give a false sense of security.”

One bill passed Friday would expand requirements to have background checks for firearm purchases. Hickenlooper is expected to sign it into law within two weeks.

Earlier this week, Colorado lawmakers approved a 15-round limit on ammunition magazines. It also is awaiting the expected approval of the governor.

Cooke said Democratic lawmakers are uninformed but are scrambling in reaction to recent tragedies in the nation.

“They’re feel-good, knee-jerk reactions that are unenforceable,” he said.

Cooke said the bill requiring a $10 background check to legally transfer a gun would not keep firearms out of the hands of those who use them for violence.

“Criminals are still going to get their guns,” he said.

Cooke said the other bill would also technically ban all magazines because of a provision that outlaws any magazine that can be altered. He said all magazines can be altered to a higher capacity.

Over at the HuffPo, there is outrage at the Sheriff for “not doing his job”. The calls for his ouster can be measured in the hundreds.

I guess now that I can be certain that all of these same folks would likewise be outraged to know that Denver, which sits just outside Weld County, is a Sanctuary City where neither the Denver County Sheriff’s department, City of Denver Police, or the Colorado State Patrol will enforce the laws concerning immigration.

You gotta fight!

For your right!

To wag your willie in public.

Yes, that is the current super-duper outrage in San Francisco this week.

When San Francisco Supervisor Scott Wiener was pushing his peers on the Board of Supervisors to approve his second round of restrictions on public nudity – this time an outright ban – he and his allies bent over backwards to assure everyone the city’s famous street fairs would be fully exempted. These would of course include Folsom Street, Bay to Breakers, and San Francisco Pride.

Nobody in their right mind should have believed them.

I like hanging out as much as any other guy. Phil’s Exploding Party Pants used to be a fan favorite in the 90’s. However, I suffer from no illusion that I should be allowed to do so in public square.

These people believe they are the mainstream and will continue to do so, even after the evidence hits them in the face like a summer sausage that has been sitting in the sun all day.

Up on Cypress Hill

They’re giving the Democratic Party ideas.

In a move that could set off new fears of contagion across the eurozone, anxious depositors drained cash from ATMs in Cyprus on Saturday, hours after European officials in Brussels required that part of a new $13 billion bailout must be paid for directly from the bank accounts of ordinary savers.

The move — a first in the 3-year-old European financial crisis — raised questions over whether bank runs could be set off elsewhere in the eurozone.

Jeroen Dijsselbloem, the president of the group of euro-area ministers, declined Saturday to rule out taxes on depositors in countries beyond Cyprus, although he said such a measure was not currently being considered.

When you tell people that the money they’re holding in particular banks is going to be skimmed, they’re going to remove it as fast as they can. It does not matter where they are residing.

Which is why this happened:

Although banks placed withdrawal limits of about $520 on ATMs, most of them had run out of cash by early evening. People around the country reacted with disbelief and anger.

And it will happen again elsewhere.

While it is a good idea to take your money out before they can skim it for you, I have little doubt that the bureaucrats in Brussels will simply ask for the account records from before the announcement and then tax that amount. If you do not have enough in the account to cover your “tax payment”, they will send you a bill.

After all, they have all the information. Including when the direct deposits happen.

But don’t worry folks, this couldn’t happen here with your 401K that you don’t pay taxes on (this makes the bureaucrats really sad).

Unless we lose the House in 2014.

Man, This Thing I Just Can’t Grasp . . .

I know there’s a good reason I didn’t excel in calculus or chemistry. Plus these dudes worked on this for 10 freakin’ years!  My golden retriever has a longer attention span than I do.

Still, this here is pretty neat stuff.

It is a beautiful thing

I speak, of course, of the truth
