You can’t take them with a grain of salt

Because a lump of salt that big couldn’t be called a “grain”.

The “stimulomaniacs” have been growing in numbers as of late. Too bad for them they’re wrong.

“Austerity” to blame. But where is the austerity?

The Keynesian stimulus crowd blames austerity for the world’s economic woes without bothering to examine facts. I advise them first to consult my colleague at the German Institute for Economic Research (Georg Erber, I See Austerity Everywhere But in the Statistics), who, unlike them, has actually taken the time to examine the European Union’s statistics as compiled by its statistical agency, Eurostat.

The official Keynesian story is that the PIIGS of Europe (Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece and Spain) have been devastated by cutbacks in public spending. Austerity has made things worse rather than better – clear proof that Keynesian stimulus is the answer. Keynesians claim the lack of stimulus (of course paid for by someone else) has spawned costly recessions which threaten to spread. In other words, watch out Germany and Scandinavia: If you don’t pony up, you’ll be next.

Erber finds fault with this Keynesian narrative. The official figures show that PIIGS governments embarked on massive spending sprees between 2000 and 2008. During this period, their combined general government expenditures rose from 775 billion Euros to 1.3 trillion – a 75 percent increase. Ireland had the largest percentage increase (130 percent), and Italy the smallest (40 percent). These spending binges gave public sector workers generous salaries and benefits, paid for bridges to nowhere, and financed a gold-plated transfer state. What the state gave has proven hard to take away as the riots in Southern Europe show.

In other words, the Keynesians are calling a slowing of the growth of government “austerity” and are rallying behind the illusion that governments are hurting people by shrinking their size. When, in fact, they are still growing, just not at the rate the Keynesians approve of.

So, I guess you could say that the Keynesians are actually “wrong”, so much as they’re lying. This lying is one of the causes of the rioting and other violence currently being seen on the south side of the Eurozone. These riots then get used by facist groups such as the “Golden Dawn” group in Greece, which then get called “right wing” groups in the media, and the leftists get the two-fer of being able to blame “austerity” violence on the “right wing”.

It must be nice being able to set the world on fire and then only have to roast marshmallows while pointing fingers.

Another Zephyr Cigar Dinner

Aside from the stellar cuisine, the fine cigars, and the top-shelf wines and liquors, one of the great treats of these evenings is sharing the company of fellow cigar enthusiasts, who unsurprisingly seem to share other liberty-minded passions, from firearms civil rights to pissing off the local politically-correct establishment. Posted en passant from my iPhone; more, including ridiculously smooth rums and a severed head on a platter — with pics — in the ayem. ETA: well, maybe Thursday.

Default SAFETY: please think about no-fire/delay-fire …

[Mods: I figure this may reach more general audience here than in specialty pistol/rifle forums…]This past Sunday afternoon, my buddy Phil & I were shooting at a local indoor range breaking in two new guns (my Sig P226 Mk25 and Henry 44Mag lever action rifle), plus doing some general shooting. Zero problems with these guns.

Gun: Ruger Stainless Bisley Blackhawk 44Mag single action, 5.5″ bbl.
Ammo: Miwall 44Mag TMJ (new loads, not reloads)

The only time I’ve had a no-fire (hangfire?) in ages has been in autoloaders – where there a click and no action cycling, and a ‘second strike’ was used to fire it, no muss/no fuss.

This time, I was firing a fairly rapid progression in a revolver, down to last 3 rounds. Then there was a ‘click’ – then “Boom” and “Boom” – I didn’t stop. (I would have if there were a squib load; been thru that w/reloads.)

I then spun the cylinder around to the nonfired position. As I was moving to aim position and almost beginning to cock, the gun fired on its own (no trigger pull, and the gun wasn’t even cocked) – a true “hangfire”, it was ‘cooking’ in the cartridge for a bit of time before detonation.

Happy Memorial Day

Better late than never…Just returned from a weekend camping trip to the Seep Lakes near Potholes (south of Moses Lake, WA). Great bass fishing at Long Lake for anyone interested.

I wanted to post an appreciation for all those veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice to secure our freedoms. I also was thinking a lot this weekend about the families of those who have lost their loved ones in service. My heart and thank-you goes out to them. You raised and knew true patriots.

Welcome to the New Server

The code monkey finally succumbed to the stresses of constantly rubber-stamping bits from one place to another.  But he died after he completed his task.

All should be back to normal and everyone can go back to super happy fun time!

Tantrum Time

The eco-socialists aren’t getting the respect they believe they deserve from the Obama Administration, or the laws they believe need to be passed so as to avoid the entire world exploding passed thourgh Congress.

So now comes the civil disobedience

The big and small L libertarians and other folks on the right started getting very unhappy with the government in the last year of the Bush Administration. There were low-key demonstrations and much waving of signs and wookiesuits woven. There were a couple of large demonstrations where the obedient media made shit up about the folks doing the demonstrations because those folks weren’t giving the media enough bad actors.

But these utopians have no patience for that. They go from zero-to-“arrest me” in no time.

No Surprise Here

Even the Congressional Budget Office folks that put out the BS “Obamacare will cut the deficit” papers don’t believe the Executive Office’s current budget plan.

President Obama vastly exaggerated the spending cuts and deficit reduction his budget plan would produce, while dramatically undercounting the level of tax hikes, according to a Congressional Budget Office analysis of his budget released Friday.

When Obama put out his budget in mid-April he said that it “will reduce our deficits by nearly another $2 trillion,” and “does so in a balanced and responsible way, a way that most Americans prefer.”

But the CBO report finds that Obama’s budget will cut 10-year deficits by just $1.1 trillion, with annual deficits starting to rise again after 2017.

And far from being balanced, the CBO found that his plan’s tax hikes would outweigh spending cuts by nearly 6 to 1.

Countdown to the CBO getting their phones tapped and email accounts hacked in 5…4…3…2

Intellectually Crosseyed: Part 1

You may have heard, we had a bridge collapse up this way.

It was/is an old bridge in need of updating. But several factors have kept the update on the backburner. Most notably, I would like to point out, the waste of money the Democrats and their Progressive friends keep pouring my local tax dollars and your federal tax dollars into: Light Rail.

But how do they respond?

Does anyone here remember the American Jobs Act proposed by President Obama in 2011? The one he introduced while standing in front of a bridge in Ohio that was also structurally deficient? The American Jobs Act that Senate Republicans killed with glee and great pride? That one?

You think maybe if they had taken it seriously instead of playing gotcha politics those people wouldn’t be in the water right now?

Is it too soon to ask which Republicans will not only be fired, but go to jail for injuries and or deaths caused by their inattention to our infrastructure? Not for me, it’s not.

Nowhere in that original post or in any of its multiple updates does the original poster or subsequent updaters mention that it was not the bridges lack of structural integrity that caused it to collapse, but that one or more support beams was hit by an overweight and over sized truck.

An oversized truck slammed into the overhead span of an Interstate 5 bridge, causing an entire section of the bridge to collapse. The accident happened north of Seattle, Washington on Thursday night.

The basic information is of no matter to their hatred of those who oppose their agenda.

Intellectually Crosseyed: Part 2

A pair of “Islamic extremists” hit a British soldier with their car near his  barracks and then proceed to hack him to death with meat cleavers.

What does the leftwing of the blogosphere have to say about it?

“Countdown to the NRA using this in some unnecessary, unrelated ad in the US begins in 5, 4, 3…”

“Basically, christian countries in Europe will retaliate. I wouldn’t want to be a Muslim living in England right now.”

“Gotta think the skinheads are just preparing for a war. This may be a brutal time coming ahead.”

Not a single word about the soldier or his family or about how the UK government has, essentially, been asking to be punished by their immigrant influx for “having to be at war.”

They simply cannot blame the actual actors for their actions. It is always someone else’s fault.

As proof of the British wanting to penance for their self-perceived crimes

Commanders have advised troops not to wear uniform travelling to and from work or outside bases following the brutal killing of a member of the military close to Woolwich barracks.

It was the uniform that provoked them. Yes siree.
