Howard Foundation? We Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Howard Foundation!

The wife and I had thought that our reproductive days were long past (life begins at 40, especially when the kid’s already done with college, woohoo!). Nevertheless, I will have to consider my duty to the species to help extend human lifespan — by fertilizing more and more eggs the older I get, I’ll be helping artificially select for longer-lived humans.

Of course, they have to be successful reproductions to count, so younger women would be better, I suppose.

Who knew that being a “Dirty Old Man” is really a positive trait for species longevity?

On the other hand, maybe I’ll just write a book or something rather than deal with this.

PITA Consolidation

Sorry, last day of class for the quarter. Have to phone today’s content in.

On the plus side, I got an 89.7% on the final exam. It was possibly the most difficult final exam I have ever taken. My Econ courses were a breeze in comparison. I have four more of these to get through.

My own Primary Care Frau Doktor has has a sign up for Medicare and Medicaid patients up for over a year.

Yes, Frau Doktor and I talk about her security. No, we don’t talk specifics. Yes, she is thinking of going to concierge-type service.

Lastly, Iâ€™d like for you all to remember that those 400,000 people signed up for the program in only the first seven weeks of Obamacare. How many more will be added on before the end of the year?

We’re already at 1.5 million thee weeks later.

Anyone want to start a pool? I’m thinking 2.25 million by New Years Day 2014.

Good luck to those folks finding a doctor who still takes Medicaid.

McDonald’s orders 7,000 touchscreen kiosks to replace cashiers

McDonald’s recently added 64,000 people to its payroll in the United States, but job prospects in Europe for those so inclined to work in the fast food industry are looking pretty grim right about now. That’s because the fast food giant is poised to add touchscreen kiosks in more than 7,000 of its restaurants in Europe in effort to replace actual, human cashiers.

McDonald’s Europe President Easterbrook told the Financial Times (subscription required), via The Sydney Morning Herald, that the touchscreen kiosks should help speed up customer transactions up to three or four seconds. The European eateries currently serve about 2 million people per day; McDonald’s hopes it will get even more people to flock in through their doors.
