Hot Damn!

Kirk of the FunTurnsToTragedyBlog got his rifle build-up and Boomershoot tale published at SavageShooter.Com over the weekend.

Head on over there and read up.

On a side note: Yes there are typos. They published the first draft without corrections. Read here for an explanation.

Also, yes that is really the stock the gun was wearing at Boomershoot. That is how it got its name ‘The Barney Killer’. Go ahead and make fun of it all you want, Kirk has heard it all and doesn’t care. It shoots well.

Penises Deemed Unwanted

At Roger Williams University

Vinny at Insignificant Thoughts posted this story a while back and I lost it in my links file. Read up.

College administrators have been enthusiastic supporters Eve Ensler’s play The Vagina Monologues and schools across the nation celebrate “V-Day (short for Vagina Day) every year. But when the College Republicans at Roger Williams University in Rhode Island rained on the celebrations of V-Day by inaugurating Penis Day and staging a satire called The Penis Monologues, the official reaction was horror. Two participating students, Monique Stuart and Andy Mainiero, have just received sharp letters of reprimand and have been placed on probation by the Office of Judicial Affairs. The costume of the P-Day “mascot — a friendly looking “penis named Testaclese, has been confiscated and is under lock and key in the office of the assistant dean of student affairs, John King.

The P-Day satirists are the first to admit that their initiative is tasteless and crude. But they rightly point out that V-Day is far more extreme. They are shocked that the administration has come down hard on their good-natured spoof, when all along it has been completely accommodating to the in-your-face vulgarity of the vagina activists.

Why does this school’s administration have to be such dicks?

And why don’t they ban themselves because of it?

The Last Desperate Act of Democrats

This needs to be changed,

Under changes to the federal Voting Rights Act that date to the mid-1970s, election materials must be made available in other languages under specified circumstances.

The law says that a “language minority” population must equal 5 percent of the voting-age citizens of a state or political subdivision, such as a county or city.

The law also says the requirement is triggered when more than 10,000 of those citizens do not speak or understand English well enough to take part in voting. The illiteracy rate among that minority population within the state, county or city also must exceed the national illiteracy rate.

And this is why,

Linn County will be the first in Oregon to print ballots in Spanish for voters who request them.

County Clerk Steve Druckenmiller said Wednesday that he would move ahead with Spanish-language ballots for the 2006 primary and general elections, although Linn County is under no federal or state requirements to do so.

According to the 2000 Census, Linn County’s Hispanic population was 4.4 percent, less than the 8 percent recorded in Oregon, 8.8 percent in Polk County and 17 percent in Marion County.

No speakee the English, no gettee the citizenship and no gettee the vote.

Loudmouth VS Knownothing

Apparently, Rush Limbaugh (Occupation: Demagogue) made a blanket statement about the students at Evanston Township High School not knowing who Hitler was due to their school’s curriculum focusing heavily on multi-culturalism.

Now, I don’t listen to Limbaugh for reasons of mental health and the fact that I sleep all damn day so I can be bright-eyed and bushy tailed when the moon rises. I find him a bit more of a blowhard than I can stand and just avoid his show in general.

Heck, I wouldn’t have even heard about this if I hadn’t stopped by for some comedy at Oliver Willis’ (Occupation: Tool) place the other day.

Having read the background story (here), I am going to have to judge Limbaugh as the one who is more in the right, and here is why; When interviewed by the Chicago Sun Times, Sarah Loeb, an ETHS sophomore, said “I think [a debate] would be great because then we’d prove him wrong and open up his opinion a little bit,”

Sorry Sarah, but before you can go about requesting Limbaugh’s time, you need to go back to remedial English class and learn the definition of ‘Debate’ and if the reporter is doing her job properly, so do a number of ETHS students “Some Evanston kids want to show Limbaugh what they know. They want to debate him on American history.

Debate: verb, both transitive and intransitive – to discuss reasons for and against something

Debate: noun – 1. a discussion of opposing reasons, 2. a formal contest of skill in reasoned argument

Just how do you ‘debate’ historical facts? Did WWII end in 1948 and not 1945? How do you reason that the Civil War never actually happnened?

I believe that what the students are actually requesting is a ‘dialogue’ or ‘a contest of knowledge of facts’.

But they should be able to voice that instead of just screaming “DEBATE!.

Then again, the reporter could be an ETHS graduate and have completely fucked up what the students said, but that would be par for the course.

Add to all that the fact that today’s protest youth believes that Bush is equal to Hitler and you can begin to agree with Limbaugh on this. Because anyone with a modicum of historical knowledge knows that to become a Fascist, one must first be a Socialist.

Clinton News Network

Even I scoff a bit when CNN is regarded as the Clinton News Network. Yeah sure, they kissed his ass and yeah sure they could be (should be?) considered accessories after the fact because of their silence about known atrocities committed by the Hussein regime so that they could keep their offices in Baghdad and yeah sure they’re just general, all around media dirtbags, but that is a bit much of a label to throw on them.

Well, I could have my mind changed if I see more of what I saw at Ravenwood’s Universe.

Spring sales provided little bounce for many retailers in April as unseasonably chilly – even downright cold – weather and never-seen- before prices at the gas pump kept most shoppers at home. — CNN/Money (via Dow Jones), May 5, 2005

Sounds bad, right?

It would if you were only getting your news from CNN.

Retail sales jumped 1.4 percent in April, the strongest showing in six months, as consumers streamed back into auto showrooms and shopping malls in what was viewed as a signal that this year’s economic slowdown was short-lived. — AP, May 12, 2005

Hillary is going to run for re-election to the Senate in 2006 and then for you know what in 08. Bad news for Bush, even this far in advance, is good for the new flip-flopping Democratic candidate.

Sunday Gun Accessory Review: Catch 22

I was online a couple weeks back and decided to try out one of the aftermarket hi-cap detachable mags that are becoming available now that the piece of warm-fuzzy empty gesture legislation, the Assault Weapons Ban, has sunsetted.

I chose this one. I only wanted the 20 round mag as I like to use a bi-pod at times and the 30 rounders are just to long for that. If I can’t hit what I’m aiming at in 20 rounds, I should have watched out for what I got myself into.

For background info, my particular SKS is an original Norinco, imported in 1988, with a machined receiver and a screw type barrel. I bought it used a few years back because it was in good shape and the first two digits in its five digit serial number are zeros. It is one of the most accurate SKS’s I have every shot and has never misfed.

But back to the mag:

It arrives in the mail and I take it out of the bag and the first thing I notice is that the follower is made of polymer. Bad sign. I had thought that the entire mag was made of steel. The SKS mechanicals can be punishing because they can take a punishing. The rest of the mag looked sturdy enough though, so I set it aside until Saturday and made a mental note to always keep an eye on the follower’s condition and maybe keep my eye out for some spares.

Now, to get these mags to fit, you need to shave away a portion of the magwell in the stock so that the new mag can pass through. This is because the finger hook on the front of the mage is wider than the fixed mag box. I used a sanding barrel my dremel on low speed and made quick work of it. The mag slipped easily in and out of the well in the stock with ease. But there was a problem.

You see, the bottom of the SKS bolt has a groove on either side of it that locks into the feed lips of the magazine and the center portion of the bolt dips low into the mag when grabbing the next round.

Basically, the SKS bolt needs to be open so that you can lock the detachable magazine in place or detach it from the gun when empty. Shouldn’t be too much of a problem right? The bolt should be locked back by the last shot from the previous magazine.

Nope.

In the advert linked above is a disclaimer: “Will not hold open bolt when last round is fired.” I read that before I ordered it and was willing to live with it since I count my shots anyway.

So now I have a mag that needs an open bolt to lock into place or detach and a bolt hold latch that won’t take commands from the magazine. That and even with the mag locked in I can’t load it via stripper clips. It basically takes two hands to lock or unlock the magazine; the left one actuating the mag release/pulling on the mag then hunting for the next mag and inserting it while the other is holding the bolt back.

Actually, that is not true. Because you have to roll the bottom of the magazine forward, it is very difficult to hit the mag release with the left hand, although it can be done, so you really have to get a good grip on the bolt handle with your right thumb and hold it back with that while using the long middle finger to hit the mag release.

If I wanted a rifle I had to make a contorted Vulcan nerve pinch to perform a basic function like changing a mag, I’d have just bought something designed by the French.

And unless you want to do so as well on your SKS, I’d suggest you hunt down a kit that’ll let your SKS use AK mags or stick with your 10rnd box mag and practice hitting what you aim at and quick stripper clip reloads because these mags are unpractical.

I am currently debating reforming the feed lips to see if I can just have them angle into the bolt channel without locking into the groove and still make them work. I have also found some of the polymer mags at a different source and am counting my pennies to see if I can afford to try them out.

Updates when I figure it all out.

I’m off to the range.

And I, Professor Booty bring them to you.

I would first like to thank all of you who voted. I had no idea that the Kid had so many readers who were fans of fanny like myself. Many thanks to you all.

So, I guess without further ado I am happy to introduce to you all the winner of choice and my new secretary….

A Couple Quick Things

Just a couple quick things before I head off to the range.

First up, Raging Dave has made it safe and sound to Ft Buchanan, Pureto Rico in the service of America. Stop on by 4RWW and wish him well, he’ll be there for at least three years.

Next, The 13th Edition of the Carnival of Cordite is up and my Boomershoot story is featured. Thank you Gullyborg!

Head on over and read all the cool firearms related linkage.

And here is another excellent reminder quote from Joe.

If the personal freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution inhibit the government’s ability to govern the people, we should look to limit those guarantees.

Lastly, you may have already heard about Washington State Representative and former King County Sheriff, Dave Reichert, found and returned Nancy ‘Raving Anti-Gun Bitch’ Pelosi’s shoe that she lost during the emergency evacuation of the House the other day.

That goes to show you just how much of a gentleman he is.

I’d have shoved it up her ass just to see her walk funny.

But then again, I’ve had a bit of a rough week.

All that aside, I recommend you go to the range this weekend.

Why? No reason is the best reason.

The Decision has been made

I would like to thank all those who put their vote into the search for my new secretary. I am deeply appreciative as I have been too busy to do all the deciding by myself.

It looks as if you all have chosen the right girl for the job.

But the Kid was just a tad wrong on Wednesday as I am not going to reveal who you chose today. You are going to have to wait until tomorrow for that.

I just thought it rude to not publically thank the fill in receptionist from the university pool.

Thank you very much, Janet.
