It’s all about who you know

In this case, if you know Christine Gregoire you will be given a cushy state job WITH a healthy pay increase over what the person before you made.

In many ways, Gov. Christine Gregoire’s 23-member Cabinet looks a lot like her predecessor’s — same number of minorities, a similar average age, even some of the same appointees.

But there is at least one notable difference: Gregoire’s Cabinet is costing taxpayers a lot more than former Gov. Gary Locke’s.

All but three of Gregoire’s Cabinet appointees are making significantly more than the jobs paid under Locke — including five appointees who are making at least $20,000 more, and an additional six who are making at least $10,000 more.

In all, Gregoire’s Cabinet will earn about $256,000 a year more than the previous Cabinet when Locke stepped down.

And that comes on top of big raises that Locke gave many Cabinet members last year as enticement to stay on through the end of his administration.

How quaint.

With this state in debt and the Dems taxing everything that moves and subsidizing everything that doesn’t, the newest Democrat Governor has decided her A-Team is going to get a raise before they even start to do their jobs.

What They Said

Karol from Alarming News said “Sneering at the Live 8 Concert just got harder because Dave from Garfield Ridge breaks this news “Pink Floyd is reuniting for Live 8. How cool is that?

Of course, I’m not liking David Gilmour’s opinion that America should give even more money than we already do, but it is only his opinion and he can shove it. I just want to hear him play ‘Diamond’.

One of the local talk show hosts here in Seattle suggested that the amount of money that is to be given to African nations be based on the total square mileage of said country’s former colonial holding on the continent.

I could live with that.

What the?

Just read this and tell me if I have fugured it out properly.

AMHERST, Mass. – Two middle school students who spent months working on a science project to prove how dangerous BB guns can be were disqualified from the state middle school science fair – because BB guns are too dangerous.

Amherst Regional Middle School eighth-graders Nathan C. Woodard and Nathaniel A. Gorlin-Crenshaw spent seven months researching and testing their hypothesis that BB guns can be deadly and shouldn’t be used by children. Minors can’t purchase BB guns, but they can receive them as gifts.

The students said they proved that BB guns can penetrate a human to cause a fatal injury; pellets can penetrate farther than BBs; and clothing affects how far a BB and pellet will penetrate.

The boys spent about $200 on ballistics gelatin, which has the same density and consistency as human flesh, to use during their ballistic tests, which were done under the supervision of science teacher Jennifer D. Welborn and Nathan’s mother, Sharon L. Downs.

“We put a lot of time into this – every Monday and Thursday since November,” Gorlin-Crenshaw told The Republican of Springfield. “We devoted a weekend to the actual testing.”

But 10 days before the June 4 event at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, they were told not to bother attending.

OK, so they’re anti-gun youths, using a science project to show that kids shouldn’t be allowed BB guns.

They had to acquire a ‘deadly’ BB gun for their tests but they were, by the grace of whatever diety they worship, not hurt or killed by the super-duper dangerous BB gun that other kids should not be allowed to own.

And now they’re bitching that their exibit is being banned by other, adult, anti-gun bigots.

WTF!?

Demands, Demands

On Friday, I wrote about how the Washington State Dems demanding near usurious rates of interest back on their $730,000 down payment for the hand recount in the Gubernatorial election.

My oh my! What is this?

It looks like they owe the Washington State Elections Commission $187,500 for campaign finance violations, including failure to disclose where they got their money and how they spent it, in the 2004 election.

I wonder if they would be willing to pay 12% interest on that payment to the state?

Imagine that, illegal votes, vote count tampering and now, illegal campaign contributions, combined, still doesn;t add up to fraud in Washington State.

And they wonder why half of the state is pissed off.

My tax dollars at work

Presented as proof that people who proudly wear the badge of “Environmentalist on top of all others are in charge in my state and have no actual knowledge of the environment is this story about our “Need to build overpasses for wildlife over Interstate-90 in Washington State.

Many of the massive bridges included in new state plans to widen Interstate 90 through Snoqualmie Pass will be for more than just people.

For the first time, the state is considering a series of massive culverts and overpasses to help wildlife — from elk and deer to cougars and lynx — traverse that treacherous ribbon of asphalt and get from the north side of the Cascades to the south.

Today, the state plans to release a draft of its half-billion-dollar-plus proposal to widen 15 miles of I-90 from four to six lanes from the top of the pass to Easton, Kittitas County. It will include options to straighten curves near Keechelus Lake and move highway lanes so avalanches are less likely to close the pass in winter.

And the plan also will lay out options for a series of 14 wildlife crossings, from small culverts to a 1,200-foot bridge, that would be among the first in the country designed to reverse some of the ecological damage wrought by highways that bisect wildlife habitat.

“Each of these is in areas where biologists say wildlife is likely to use them — because they’ve seen roadkill there, or the habitat is there,” said Mark Pettit, a spokesman for the state Department of Transportation.

The DOT has finished their ‘Environmental Impact Study’ (aka: free money for the envirowhacko agenda) at an unknown cost to me, the taxpayer. Their study shows that the deer population “Needs to have a path to make it across a mountainous stretch of I-90 in order to “Help them.

I could go on and on about how hunters are the true conservationists who actually care about the deer and about how the Doe-to-Buck ratio is twice what it should be naturally, but after I read this line I decided that I would much rather just sit here and bang my head on the desk since it’ll have the same effect.

But the structures will come at a price. Pettit said state officials estimate the crossings will cost $25 million to $100 million combined.

WTF?!? There is $75 million between those figures!

We know how much it costs to plant a culvert and build an overpass, what is the difficulty with getting an actual estimate with these guys?

I guess it doesn’t really matter. Knowing my state, it’ll actually cost $135 million.

Reform or Die

Those ‘Right Wing Extremists’ are at it again.

A House committee yesterday voted to slash U.S. dues payments to the United Nations by half if the world body fails to enact sweeping reforms to its budget, human rights arm and peacekeeping missions.

By a one-vote margin, the House International Relations Committee rejected a softer Democratic alternative that would have given Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice the power to decide whether to withhold dues.

Imagine that! Benefits based on performance and outcome? What a new idea.

Of course, the left will see this as some sort of ‘neo-con conspiracy to pull away from the UN’.

I could only wish that it was actually a pull out.

Who’s your Mommy?

It is becoming harder and harder to distinguish these days,

School may be out for the summer but that’s not stopping some Valley school districts from making sure students are well fed.

Many of them are offering summer luncheon programs where students can stop by and pick up a warm meal.

Is mac and cheese really that hard for kids these days?

Well, I guess that since they can’t do the math it requires to assemble the ingredients or even read the damn box, maybe it really is.

That Darn Cat!

Check this out.

Trencor1660HDE.jpg

That is a Trencor 1660 trench digging machine being sold to Israel to find smuggling tunnels like the one Rachel “St. Pancake Corrie died trying to protect.

That thing will make a mess out of the next terrorist supporting hippie that tries to stand in front of it. They’ll wish they were just run over by a D-9.

Speaking of Caterpillar and St. Pancake, you all probably remember the protest that the anti-Israel twits put on trying to force the company to stop selling equipment to the sovereign country, well, it looks as if they had no effect,

Caterpillar declares 2-for-1 stock split, ups div 22%

Caterpillar Inc. on Wednesday announced a two-for-one stock split and increased its quarterly dividend by 22% to 50 cents a share from 41 cents a share on a pre-split basis. On a split-adjusted basis, the per-share increase of 4.5 cents is the largest in the company’s 80-year history.

Proving once again, when you put ignorant, hateful hippies against large equipment, the hippies lose.
