Because It’s A Cali Gun

Some time ago, Lyle wondered why all the interest in AR or AK pistols, rather than just going the SBR route.

With shall-issue-in-all-but-name Licenses to Carry (LTC) becoming more prevalent in certain California counties, here’s a justification: put the AR pistol on your carry license.

In California, this allows you to lawfully have a loaded rifle-caliber weapon in your car or on your person (i.e., backpack). Absent such an LTC, you could lawfully have a rifle in your vehicle, but it has to remain unloaded or you’re in felony territory. (Of course, SBRs are verboten in CA in most situations, and again any rifle would have to be unloaded, unlike such a carry “pistol.”)

Said LTC is good throughout California, even in such evil zones as LA and SF. So there ya go.
