If you’re looking for compelling weekend reading, my old professor Stephen Greenblatt’s The Swerve is excellent. And it’s on Kindle. The Kindle version is perfect for iPhone or the new iPad; in a book like this where the photos of statuary, art and relics are not just for show but illustrate important points in the text, it’s very cool to see them on a hi-def screen.
Set aside his politics or the “new historicism” controversy; Greenblatt’s writing shines. What really enhances the experience, though, is how this version’s optimized for the way Kindle treats endnotes. See something interesting? Tap the link and instantly you see the endnote. Done? Tap again and you’re back where you started. It’s like reading my favorite Nicholson Baker novel, but better.
