Why do people even run that line?

So it’s official, I-1183 passed in WA state, and the state is now out of the liquor business it’s held a monopoly over since the end of prohibition.

I voted for it.  I voted for it last time, and I was pretty sure I was gonna vote for it this time, but the thing that cemented it for me, the thing that made me want to vote for it just outta spite was the crap like this.

I mean it’s like the anti-CC folks promising blood in the streets.  These guys promised increased health problems & underage drinking.  Seriously?  You spin that line?  Were you hoping that enough people in the state have never left the borders of WA and don’t have internet, or friends & family out of state, that they could not wonder & ask, “Are their other states with privatized liquor sales (yes) and what are their health & underage drinking stats (not any worse than ours are right now)?

Seriously?  You couldn’t look to see how well that fear-mongering has worked in opposing Shall-Issue legislation?  Dipshits.

Of course, liberals attacking Costco was a joke as well.  Costco is like a liberal dream employer.  They pay their people well (or so I’ve been told), promote from within, & offer very attractive benefits, so much so that they are never short of applicants, even in a booming economy.  Of course, they do it in part to keep the Unions out, but unless you believe in Unions for the sake of Unions, instead of for the improved working conditions Unions can bring, then this is a good thing!  Unless you drop $22M to help remove some state power, then you are a greedy corporation!

My wife is a lot more liberal than I am, and even she laughs at people like this because they are frickin idiots.

Welcome to the later 20th century, WA.

Now, if we can just allow Internet sales of wines and spirits. I can’t get Bundaberg rum in the US. No liquor company imports it, and most state laws won’t let you buy liquor online and have it shipped to your home.

You can get on-line liquor shipped to you in California, BevMo is good for that. 🙂

Did anyone else notice that the underlying theme for all these ads was Prohibition itself?

Most of the fear-mongering was smugly presented from a “prohibition was great, and our version of it must stand” attitude.

My favorite ad was when they ran the former WA AG up in front of the lens, and he said that he’d seen and prosecuted many scams during his term in office, but the anti-1183 side represented the worst scam he’d ever seen.

I’ll bet it was his ad that turned out the lights for the antis. We had Costco pilloried in public, but no names were ever mentioned about who the “big liquor wholesalers” were. I’ll name one, Seagrams.

On to Oregon! I’m looking forward to seeing this campaign in OR soon.

We can’t even pump our own gas. I doubt we’ll be allowed to pump our own hooch.

I’m hoping this takes hold in Idaho. Prohibitionists are among the lowest form of scum.
