    That single batallion could, if transplanted in battle ready formation into that exact location and time, indeed destroy the Roman Republic (which it still was at the time, Augustus never was “emperor”, the position evolved slowly from his one as a more or less permanent leader of the senate) and rekindle the Roman civil war.
    I seriously doubt however the troopers could have established themselves as leaders or chieftains for any length of time there. Their sole power after all stems from weapons and vehicles that will soon (within days of entering combat) run out of power, ammo, and fuel.
    After that, they’re just a bunch of physically fit men trying to fight a war with pre-medieval weapons they were never trained to use to anything approaching the standard of the training employed by the Roman legions (even if those were made up mostly of conscripts).
