Just a beginning

The Daley Gator has a list of 178 federal agencies that I know that I could live without. I’m pretty sure that you could live without them as well.

Well, I could live without them, but I spotted two on the list that I use pretty regularly.

The National Institute of Health has some services that I really do use such as pubmed. Although I doubt the average American knows that PubMed exists. It isn’t every nation that can have a fully searchable library of scientific literature only an internet click away.

The Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board oversees the Thrift Savings Plan, which is where I have my retirement nest egg. Although I am more than happy to put the cost of paying the 80 employees of the FRTIB onto the members of the TSP. With several billion in assets across each of the funds, an administration cost to pay the FRTIB would be minimal.

  2. Wouldn’t it have been more efficient to list the ones that we couldn’t do without? It would definitely have been shorter.

Look up the number of people working at these agencies – mind boggling. I’ve worked for billion dollar companies with fewer employees than some of these anonymous agencies.
