Orion

One of the coolest things about Footfall, Niven & Pournelle’s roller-coaster-ride of an alien-invasion novel (which IMO has one of the most emotionally satisfying closing scenes ever written) is the use of the Orion nuclear-bomb-propelled space battleship concept by the human resistance. Now there’s a plastic model (hat tip to Instapundit).

Admittedly, the ship in the novel was a bit more impressive. But I’ll take what I can get.

Of course, there’s only one proper battle tune for such a magnificent beast.

Footfall was the last good sci-fi novel I’ve read.

The nuke-propelled shop must have made a mess of Seattle when it launched…

Didn’t it launce from Bellevue or something?

I think it would have made a mess of a lot of places…
