The Soundboard: Catch A Groove Edition

While I was digging around for my still not found discs of the Reverend Horton Heat, I found my highly prized platters of Booker T & the MG’s. The things I pack away for reasons I will never understand.

For those that dont’ know, the “MG’s” (Steve “The Colonel” Cropper, Donald “Duck” Dunn and Al jackson, Jr) were the “House Band” for Stax Records in the late 50’s/early 60’s. They hooked up with Booker T Jones and made some damn fine music over the next decade, while still serving as session musicians.

If you’ve listened to tunage from Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett or Sam Moore, you were also listening to the MG’s. You may also remember Cropper and Dunn from the original Blues Brothers Band.

And so today will contain a double posting from these fine gentlemen

From 1962 – Green Onions

A favorite of folks who like to cruise in style for decades

And from 1971 – Melting Pot

Watch your speakers, this track may just melt them. The whole album cooks like this.

Ah yes, Green Onions is a classic. It’s a tune that never goes stale. Last week I bought Behave Yourself off iTunes. Great mellow campfire song.
