The Wrong Training Can Kill You

From Snowflakes in Hell, quoting Arms and the Law, an example of where it almost did:

[I]nteresting case of an officer who constantly trained at disarming people by hand. Have someone hold a gun on him, and take it away from them, hand it back and repeat. He came face to face with an armed criminal, snatched the gun away from him — and handed it back.

He survived the experience luckily.

Biggest laugh this morning. They need to change the training sequence in future training by cuffing the perp after relieving him of the weapon.

It’s a pretty common saying that under stress you will revert to your training.

I racall hearing a case a few years ago where an officer was found dead at the scene with a pocket full of empty brass, as that’s how they were trained in order to keep the brass clean for reloading.
