Amy Winehouse – Rehab

Since I forgot to mention this in last Monday’s post about firearms/mental health bills laying around in Congress, I figured today was as good a day as any to include it.

Not only is it a damn fine tune, of which a techno remix was being listened to as I wrote last Monday’s post, but this track actually beats the snot out of the remix.

But back to the topic at hand: Would alcohol/drug rehab qualify as a mental health disqualifier?

You can bet your ass. The folks who don’t want people to own firearms want to disqualify as many people as possible and will claim that since “Falling Off the Wagon” is a possibility, this is a “reasonable restriction”. Their friends who have gone to rehab but still feel the need for protection will be able to afford bodyguards and/or the bribes to those necessary to get their “permits”.

But what about you, if you’ve been? You’re screwed.

Hell, in most states you cannot even have a firearm in a place that serves alcohol. I cannot count how many times I’ve had to wait an extended amount of time for a table in a restaurant because I’m armed in public and the restaurant is full, but there are tables available in the bar. I’m not going to be drinking, but I know the law and there is a sign that clearly states that that area is off limits to minor and people with firearms.

Add to that, that in a large number of states, like Washington, the way the “No Guns in Bars” laws were written have cancelled out Castle Doctrine for the owners and employees of said establishment.

Drunks with Guns = Bad

Owner of bar and/or Employee of bar and/or Sober designated driver in bar with guns = OK

Right?
