Compromise or Surrender?

I got a couple emails over the weekend asking why I hadn’t posted anything on the Kennedy/Kyl immigration “Compromise” bill.

I really don’t have an answer better than: “What the hell do you expect me to say?”

It sucks. It is surrender, not compromise. Our government has sat lax for so long with most not wanting to do anything about in fear of being labelled a “racist” that the other side’s arguments of it being “too big a problem” have to meat to them. Which is exactly how they wanted it.

Hell, even now some of them are still calling this a “racist” bill because it isn’t a blanket amnesty.

Our good man Rivrdog has a couple posts up on his thoughts (Uno and Dos) and I can’t say much more than that. I still think that if we deported a million illegals while building the border protections up that a very large number approaching half would haul ass back home. After that, we may have to go to war with Mexico when they balk at getting their rightful citizens back.

I’ve seen a couple of “I’m giving up my membership in the Republican Party” petitions/letters floating around and, unfortunately, I can’t say that and be honest. What I can do, and what you can do as well if you’re in the same boat, it to delve into your memory and remember who the last primary challenger to your elected rep was and tell them that if that person runs again in the primary that they’ve got your vote instead.

I’ve said this to the wife and a couple of other folks in person, but never here that I can remember, so here goes: If New Mexico Governor gets the Dem nomination and any one of the current front runners for the Repub nom besides Thompson get it from the R’s, that I’d vote for Richardson. Richardson has a shitty immigration policy stance, but is equal to Thompson on the Second Amendment. We may get amnesty out of Richardson, but I’ll have my guns, which is something I cannot say for Guliani, Romney, McCain or any of the rest of the crop besides Thompson, who still hasn’t announced.

And as we all know, having the guns is the important point.
