Ideas the American Left Refuses to Believe about Iraq

Alternet published a list they called: The Ten Fallicies about the Violence in Iraq

It is, to my eyes, ten true things that the American left knows to be true, but cannot bring themselves to admit. I do, however, like that the Crooks and Liars blog tries to change the name of the list to blame these items on the media. Because the left cannot believe the media has a liberal bias, otherwise they’re heads will implode as their world crashes around them.

But onto the list:

1. The U.S. is a buffer against more violence.

This is undeniably true. While the Iraqis themselves don’t really like us being there all that much, if we were to leave, the current sectarian violence would multiply enormously. This point will connect with #8 as well.

2. The killers do it to influence U.S. politics.

The media releases tell this tale themselves. With our enemies cheering on the change in the Congress and saying that they knew it would happen because they are turning America against the eevviill Bush.

3. The “Lancet” numbers are bogus.

They are. No doubt about it. The methodology was flawed from the outset and contained those who died fighting American soldiers in it’s final count. It is at best, a guess. And a poor one at that.

4. Syria and Iran are behind the violence.

Well geez, the day after this list came out on Alternet, American forces captured a rather large weapons cache that was inbound from Iran and had been manufactured in Iran. So much for this bit of denial from the left.

5. The “Go Big” strategy of the Pentagon could work.

It very well could. I’m not talking a 20K or 30K bump in personell, I’m talking a minimum of 50K. Unfortunately, we’ve been at this for so long that we will have to struggle to find the men and machines.

The left spent the first half of OIF Monday morning quarterbacking that we went in too light. Now they say that a large increase wouldn’t matter a whit. They need to make up their minds.

6. Foreign fighters, especially jihadis, are fueling the violence.

See point #4. Even the Alternet dweebs admit to a minimum of 10% outside forces. I guess they’ve never heard of the “10% Principle”. I wonder if the name “Zarqawi” rings a bell with them.

7. If we do not defeat the violent actors there, they will follow us here.

True, and they know it. If we left, after the mass murder of a million or so Iraqis during the explosion in sectarian violence, these fighters currently working in Iraq would either go to Afghanistan or bring their experience here via either Canada or Mexico.

8. The violence is about Sunni-Shia mutual loathing;

See point #1. In case they haven’t noticed, while the numbers of US personell being wounded or killed has sadly increased, the number of victims of Iraqi on Iraqi violence is the number that has gone exponential.

9. The war is an Iraqi affair, and the best we can do now is train them to enforce security.

Which was the original plan for during the occupation. Some folks are claiming that they are not up for it. We can only try it and see.

10. Trust the same people who caused or endorsed the war to tell us what to do next.

Some folks believe that they need to finish what they started. The left has never been too fond of that policy. Especially since history has shown the Repubs having to clean up after the Dems screw something up.
