I didn’t have to look far

I was looking for one more post for today, so I opened my email and clicked on the one from Wednesday from the Seattle Times. Bada-bing bada-boom, thar she blows, a whale of dipstick, Nicole Brodeur, Seattle Times staff columnist and resident twit.

You see, Nicole has been “Driven to shame by example”. I know this, because that was the title of her colum on Wednesday.

Big thanks to Kent Peterson and his family.

They have convinced me beyond reasonable doubt that I am a wasteful, consuming slug. The Petersons live in Issaquah, a land ruled by cars — but don’t own one. According to Sunday’s story by Times reporter Sonia Krishnan, Kent bikes to work in Seattle; his wife, Christine, walks 25 minutes to work in Issaquah; and their two sons walk to school.

I own two cars — one of them a station wagon. And I’m not hauling around the Brady Bunch or sides of beef.

Rather, my car is a rolling storage facility, filled with clothes to be donated, shoes to be repaired, bungee cord to strap more stuff in, and a folding field chair on which to place my fat butt on the sidelines.

And there’s this: I drive five blocks to my running path.

“And you’re willing to confess that?” asked Lawrence Axil Comras, president of GreenHome.com in San Francisco, which offers kits and products for “greening” homes. “You’re a brave soul. But I forgive you.”

You know what Nicole, even in my mind, you are a slug, and not just because I don’t like your opinions. If you are going for a run five blocks from your house, you’d be an idiot to fire up your car.

Also, the next time you talk to Lawrence Axil Comras, tell him to shove his self important ‘forgiveness’ up his ass.

  1. I wonder how much money she’d save each month by actually walking or running to the running path?

Enough to buy enough beer to make her point of view make sense, even for just one column?

Maybe. If it was cheap beer.

  2. Darrell says:

Reminds me of the people who put their expensive bicycles on bike racks, then drive to where they want to ride their bikes.
