Question of the Day

Not to be an ongoing feature, just something I tried to figure out last night as I ate my lunch.

When does soup become stew?

OK all you Carnival of Recipies folks, riddle me that!

As a former commercial cook, I’m here to tell you that the difference is small, and is also a matter of individual taste. Most soup-lovers like a hearty soup, with lots of goodies in it, as most stew lovers like a hearty stew. In, say, a beef soup, the line gets crossed, but other soups, such as a bisque, are made for the flavor of their broth, and not for any added ingredients.

The broth is the difference. In a soup, the broth is the main feature, and in a stew, its not.
