I of the Purple Shoulder Pt.1

Well howdy!

Yes, I have made it back safely, if not just a bit drained from nearly 500 miles of driving and two days at various ranges in the greater Portland, OR area.

The drive down from Seattle was a good one and I met up with fellow bloggers Jerry the Geek, Rivrdog, The Poor Schmuck and The DANE along with a half dozen blog readers and lurkers for lunch at BJ’s Brewhouse and Restaurant for lunch.

After feeding our faces and BS’n for an hour and a half or so, we headed off to The Place to Shoot for some, well, shooting. I’d just like to say that it was a great group of guys I met on Saturday and that I couldn’t think of a better way of spending an afternoon.

One thing I have to make absolutely clear is that I am, and have always been, horrible with names. If I can remember to write them down or just get a last name, I’m good, but first names get lost shortly after the intro unless they’re unique. I know it sounds rude, but I’ve had this problem as long as I can remember and it looks really strange to whip out a notepad and pen while shaking hands. I’m also horrible with taking pictures. Once I get to the range, I’m all about shooting or loading and not much for photography, which is why I got fewer pics of that range session than I have fingers on one hand. So if you attended and I didn’t get a pic of you shooting or forgot to mention your name, my humblest apologies.

I’m still going through the pics from the Sunday Practical Shotgun match so those will appear tomorrow AM as there are actually quite a few (though I suspect that my inferior photography skills will whittle that number down a good deal).

But back to Saturday’s Blogger Blastorama (all pics are click for bigger)

Here we have The Poor Schmuck taking careful aim with the Ruger 22/45

For not being a regular pistol shooter, he did damn well, if I do say so myself.

Quote from the Schmuck “I have to get one of these

Next up we have reader Freddy BoomBoom trying out the CZ83

And last, but certainly not least, Jerry the Geek with his single stack competition Kimber 1911 (with the sweetest trigger I’ve touched off in a good while).

Stop by tomorrow for pics of the Practical Shotgun match and an explanation of the title of this post. Trust me, you’ll want to attend the next one after seeing them.

You should also click on the links of the aforementioned bloggers for their pics and tales of the day. I think I can safely say that everyone had a blast! Which was the whole point.
