Independance Day

‘All Rights Reserved’, my ass!

While I will celebrate today as best I can with my work schedule, I will only be celebrating a few items in this great nation’s history.

I can’t say that I wholly agree with The Baron du Toit and The Mad Ogre, but I am not a joyous individual after having been watching the slow erosion of our freedoms in just the last decade or so that I have been a politically aware adult, the Kelo decision being only the latest tear off from the Bill of Rights.

So here is a list of the things I will be keeping in mind today:

The actual act of the signing of The Declaration.

My freedom to own as many firearms as I want and can afford. Granted, I cannot own the firearms I WANT and am treated like a criminal when purchasing the other ones, but I can at least own and train with enough of the other ones to be able to take their weapons. I’m sure you know the ‘their’ I’m talking about.

My freedom to type that last line without being hauled in to the nearest “Starchamber tribunal and jailed.

My freedom to tell the government to stuff it in their respective asses and leave, if I want.

My freedom to tell the media to stuff it in their respective asses and laugh as they cry when I do so.

My freedom to vote for anyone I choose, win lose or draw, even if I just write Donald Duck on the blank line (not that my Democrat controlled state and county governments will respect my vote by counting it).

My freedom to heap praise on the America’s men and women in service when they do well and to be able to follow the trials of those few who bring disgrace upon the ranks.

And last, but not least, the fact that America is still the last best hope for freedom on the world. Millions have died to defend her and millions more have risked life, limb and property to be here.

Raging Dave has posted a wonderful essay covering that last entry on the list. Go read now.

We’ll see you all back here tomorrow, hopefully in one piece. Or at least one big piece and a couple small ones. Have as grand an Independence Day as you feel like.

It is your freedom to choose.
