Red America/Blue America

Sorry to bring up the color barrier thing, but the post below brought it out of me.

Blue America:

A parolee with a history of violence and mental illness was indicted Friday in the slayings of a pregnant Riverside woman and her unborn child, and prosecutors said they will seek the death penalty in the case.

Tony Lee Reynolds, 23, was indicted on 14 felonies, including the killings of Estela Perez and her unborn daughter, Michelle. Perez was sexually assaulted and stabbed to death March 31 in her home near the city’s Fairmount Park. [ed. note – Perez was stabbed at least 33 times, including in the eye.]

At a morning news conference, police and prosecutors described the Perez slaying as heinous. Perez, 29, had her throat slashed, and she had been stabbed numerous times in the stomach, legs, and chest, court records show.

Red America:

The teenage boy fatally shot June 12 in Richmond’s East End apparently was not as dangerous as he looked to the man who killed him.

Law enforcement sources involved in the case said Rodvon Daymetric Brown, 14, was carrying an unloaded, .22-caliber rifle when he got off his bicycle and approached a 47-year-old man sitting in his car at 24th Street and Fairmount Avenue around 11:40 p.m.

An ammunition magazine from an AK-47, also unloaded, had been duct-taped to the barrel of the rifle, giving it more of an appearance as a deadly assault weapon, the sources said.

The man inside the car, however, had a loaded, 40 mm semiautomatic handgun.

But, through even a cursory glance further into the last article, we can see the Blue Staters trying to overtake the Red Staters,

First off, there is the “40mm Handgun” line. They wouldn’t let the weatherman do the financial report, but this is OK to the media?

Then there is this part:

Richmond are consulting with prosecutors on whether to charge the man in connection with the shooting, which is still under investigation.

Police said the man who fired the fatal shots did not flee the scene, but called 911 and waited for police and medical attention to arrive.

Brown was a seventh-grader at Chandler Middle School who lived with his aunt and siblings in the 1400 block of North 23rd Street, just around the corner from where he was fatally wounded.

Family members had said the boy left the house that night to ride his bike because it had been so hot inside. A family spokeswoman had said Brown had never been arrested and was not known by his aunt to carry a weapon.

But last night, a law enforcement source said Brown did, in fact, have a record of arrests as a juvenile. The source did not provide details on the record.

Yes, you read that right; a citizen, providing for his own protection, was approached in his vehicle by someone carrying a firearm. Self-protecting citizen shoots and kills the obvious threat, and is now being investigated.

And of course, the threat’s family is portraying him as a “little angel, when the truth is exactly the opposite.

Also, one wonders what might have become of the lifelong criminal in the first story had the pregnant woman been able to protect herself in her Blue State.
