Anti-war veterans urge boycott of Newport

When two anti-war groups showed up to take part in the annual Loyalty Day Parade in Newport, organizers sent them marching — in the other direction.

Now two weeks later, as high season on the Oregon coast heats up, Newport finds itself at the heart of a boycott that has tourists pledging to take their loyalty elsewhere.

So far more than 400 people have signed an Internet petition protesting how parade organizers handled the confrontation and promising to bypass Newport merchants.

Shop owners haven’t felt the effect yet, but the Greater Newport Chamber of Commerce has been hearing from critics as far away as Denver, said executive director Susan Huntington.

“The Chamber of Commerce is where all the people are registering their dismay,” Huntington said. “We get all the e-mails and phone calls from people who are very angry about it.”

Of course the CoC is getting all the calls; that is where the VFP organizers are telling their drones to call and complain. And never mind the “400 People” petition, they first have to prove that they were going to actually show up before their threats to “boycott’ the town can be taken seriously.

My guess is that they won’t notice it a bit.

If the VFP moonbats would have just followed the rules and filled out a float applicaiton and actually brought a float instead of their stinky bus (for 5 whole members, mind you) maybe they wouldn’t have anything to bitch about?

Oh wait, nevermind. They’ll always find something to bitch about.

Booty’s Rememberance

The good Professor made this up and sent it to me for Veteran’s Day last year. I think that he would like to have also posted it for the Day of Rememberance tomorrow.

A little Booty for those who deserve it the most.

RNS Quote of the Day: 05/25/07

The said Constitution shall never be construed to authorize Congress to infringe the just liberty of the press, or the rights of conscience, or to prevent the people of the United States, who are peaceable citizens, from keeping their own arms.

Samuel Adams, Massachusetts’ U.S. Constitution Ratification Convention, 1788

Here’s one Sam Adams to start you off on your weekend. You’ll have to buy the rest on your own.

Last of a Dying Breed

Go Joe!

This spring, six Penn State football players were arrested and charged for crimes stemming from an off-campus fight April 1 in which at least 15 Nittany Lions were present. The charged included a couple of star players, although what apparently bothered coach Joe Paterno the most was how many of his kids were willing to be involved. And so Paterno, 80 now but no less tough, no less disciplined, hatched a plan to set things right within his program. He’ll let the local legal and student judicial process play out, but regardless he decided that to keep people from thinking his team was trash, it’ll spend the fall cleaning it up.

According to Paterno, the Penn State football team will clean Beaver Stadium after each home football game this fall. It’ll gather garbage, sweep stairs and maybe even hose parts down. …

It’s a job that usually goes to members of club sports on campus – say, rugby or crew – which do it to raise money so they can compete. Paterno said the clubs still will get the $5,000 for the job, but his guys, fresh off playing 60 minutes of major college football the day before, will do all the work starting Sunday morning.

Actions have consequneces. Just because you made the team, doesn’t mean you get a free ride. One man still runs your world.

If you still want to play badly enough.

He can only say that

Because the folks on his side don’t even want a “Peace in Our Lifetime” guarantee before giving up to the jihadis.

Olbermann Compares Dem Deal with Bush to Chaimberlain Deal with Hitler

On Wednesday’s Countdown, MSNBC host Keith Olbermann attacked Congressional Democrats for their “betrayal” of the voters for making a deal with President Bush on funding this “war of lies,” and even found it insightful to compare their deal with Bush to the deal that Neville Chamberlain made with Adolf Hitler before World War II. Olbermann: “That’s what this is for the Democrats, isn’t it? Their ‘Neville Chamberlain moment’ before the Second World War. All that’s missing is the landing at the airport, with the blinkered leader waving a piece of paper which he naively thought would guarantee ‘peace in our time,’ but which his opponent would ignore with deceit. The Democrats have merely streamlined the process.

What a fucking moron. He can’t even get his historical figures correct.

If, and this is a big if, I were to step onto the moonbat side of the political aisle, I would have called them something along the lines of “A Group of Quislings”. It would at least be more accurate.

Though not as accurate as calling them spineless. But they’re politicians. Ooops, I repeated myself.

They’re not gonna thank him for that

I’ll keep an eye on this to find out if this proposed bill is going to set a record for the fastest death of a bill in the Washington State Legislature.

A faster death than a bill to end Washington’s ban on Class 3 firearms.

A faster death than a bill to cut the gas tax.

Its!

Washington Attorney General Rob McKenna will propose a state law requiring all executive sessions of lawmaking bodies be audiotaped.

Stop watch at the ready!

The Soundboard: Goin’ Etheral

At least a little bit. Work IT dweebies have cut off 90% of this here interweb from our PC’s with some nasty software that won’t even let me see the Good Ship RNS on my lunch, which should account for lack of responses in the comments and lack of items to post about lately.

They have also cut me off from my internet radio station, which should be considered at least a misdemeanor, if not a high crime. But I have been making up for it by listening to the tunage I already own. The CD Player still works, at least until the dweebies tell me that Windoze Media Player takes up too much chip time or some BS.

So, here we go with an example of some of the stuff I’ve been listening to as of late.

From Part 2 of the series that the past couple weeks of tunage has been pulled from

Inside My Soul – Logistics (Friction & Nu Balance Remix)

———-

Found here, again with some kickass cover art.

And as I’ve said before, I will be owning all the Hospital Records discs in short order and if you like this and the other tunage as of late, you should too. I haven’t found a bad one yet.

RNS Quote of the Day, 5/24/07

From Justice McReynolds, the author of the decision in U.S. v. Miller:

Probably most of those accelerated to prison under the present Act will be unfortunate addicts and their abettors; but even they live under the Constitution. And where will the next step take us? When the Harrison Anti-Narcotics Law became effective probably some drug containing opium could have been found in a million or more households within the Union. Paregoric, laudanum, Dover’s Powders, were common remedies. Did every man and woman who possessed one of these instantly become a presumptive criminal and liable to imprisonment unless he could explain to the satisfaction of a jury when and where he got the stuff? Certainly, I cannot assent to any such notion, and it seems worthwhile to say so.

–Justice McReynolds writing in Casey v. United States, 276 U.S. 413, 421 (1928), quoted in footnote 24 of “The Peculiar Story of United States v. Miller,” by Brian L. Frye.
