This looks as though it’ll be interesting

Not that I do all that much politicking around here anyway, but still

The rapid growth of political blogs and Web sites has attracted the attention of state elections officials, who are considering what, if any, new regulations should be imposed on the Internet.

The go-slow approach by the state Public Disclosure Commission (PDC), which collects candidates’ financial information and enforces elections laws, is applauded by most bloggers and campaign experts, though some say policing the Internet is unnecessary and all but impossible.

As early as this month, the PDC may consider new political communication regulations, with much of the discussion likely to focus on whether to extend federal rules governing the Internet to local races.

“Are we going to regulate what bloggers say? No,” said Jane Noland, one of five commissioners. “We are not interested in regulating speech.”

cough/ BULLSHIT! \cough

They’d love to tell me what I can and cannot say, though they’ll never admit it.

And I know for a fact that the Dems in western Washington would love to regulate the folks at Sound Politics, whose Initiative to make the King County Elections Director an elected position instead of one the County Executive can fill with his most faithful lackey was finally approved for the ballot after 50 some-odd days of verifying signatures by the county elections office.

We’ll see what they want to do, but my move to Idaho may be abruptly accelerated so that I can sling shit at them from outside their reach.

Damn that George Bush

He is banning all research on embryonic stem cells and setting medicinal cures back by decades!

Oh, wait…

UW gets grant for stem cell research
The University of Washington has been awarded $10 million by the federal government for a five-year program intended to advance basic research on human embryonic stem cells.

“We need to understand what it is that makes these cells tick,” said Dr. Chuck Murray, a UW scientist who reported in the September issue of the journal Nature Biotechnology on his lab’s success in regenerating damaged hearts in rats using embryonic stem cells.

Stem cell research is one of the hottest arenas in biomedical research because of the potential for using stem cells to rebuild damaged tissue or grow new tissue. Embryonic stem cells, cells taken from an early stage in an organism’s development, are “pluripotent” — meaning they can grow into brain, heart, bone, blood or any other kind of cell.

The media and the leftoids can spin it any way they want to, but the research is getting done. In the public sector and the private.

One thing I’d like to see cross the pond

A bucket a bag and a will

Tarred, feathered and tied to a lamppost: Justice for a drug dealer on the streets of Ulster

Tied to a lamppost, he stands with his head and upper body covered in tar and feathers. A makeshift placard hung around his neck with a piece of string announces the reason for his treatment.

It is a very public humiliation, and a medieval one. Almost ten years since Northern Ireland’s Troubles officially ended, this remains the crude face of justice on the streets of south Belfast.
This man was subjected to the painful tarring and feathering on the Taughmonagh estate, a loyalist stronghold in the city.

Locals had accused the victim, who is in his thirties, of being a drug dealer. And when police allegedly did not act, they took the law into their own hands.

Two masked men tied up the accused victim, poured tar over his head and then covered him in white feathers, apparently from a pillow case.

A small crowd including women and children looked on as the men then adorned their victim with a placard reading: “I’m a drug dealing scumbag”.

Pictures of the punishment were sent to a local newspaper.

I understand that Sebastian of the blog Pro-Gun Progressive is having these issues. And if you click here, you’ll read his recent entry about how he found a gallon bucket of Sulfuric Acid set in a spot where his local baddies were most likely planning to ambush him with it because of his activities trying to get them run out of the neighborhood.

Since I think he is too kind to just string them over a lamppost adorned with a similar sign via a rope attached to their neck, this may be something he and/or his neighbors could go with?

I understand the need

For insurance companies to confirm what they are paying out for, but this is going way overboard.

An unbelievable story to some, but just old hat to attorney’s who deal with Progressive Insurance and their outrageous behavior almost every day.

Today, it was reported that detectives hired by Progressive Insurance became members of the Southside Christian Fellowship Church in Atlanta in August 2005 in order to get damaging information on two church members involved in a traffic accident.

The detectives talked their way into private support groups where members discussed topics such as abortions, sexual orientation and drug addiction.

In several cases I am aware of in Northern California, Progressive has used detectives in a very aggressive way to shadow people involved in accident claims.

You know, I have enough shit to worry about in life that my insurance company isn’t going to try and screw me out of a one time claim. Sure, if I make repeated claims and they all start sounding the same, then maybe I can see investigating, but even then, recording a church group is over the line.

So when your leftie friends go on and on about the evil insurance companies, remind them that the one with the name that tells you about the company’s politics and how they are strong arming claimants.

Jim, Jimi and Janice

And Elvis and Buddy Holly and Hank Williams and Ronnie Van Zant and everyone else in the music industry who has died in their prime, did this really need to be published?

Rock stars more likely to die prematurely

Rock stars — notorious for their “crash and burn” lifestyles — really are more likely than other people to die before reaching old age.

A study of more than 1,000 mainly British and North American artists, spanning the era from Elvis Presley to rapper Eminem, found they were two to three times more likely to suffer a premature death than the general population.

Between 1956 and 2005 there were 100 deaths among the 1,064 musicians examined by researchers at the Centre for Public Health at Liverpool John Moores University.

While the Brits are researching the obvious, Americans are busy designing new arterial stents.

You know, something that may actually save lives.

A poke in the ribs

I got reminded that some folks might not know what the “re-new to me” Ruger that I posted pics of this weekend used to look like.

My bad, here you go.

P4010001.JPG

Contrast and compare.

Now, this is why I dread making improvements to my individual firearms: I can’t stop there.

I’ve got a really nice and very functional Nikon 6-18×40, the one in the pic, on the rifle now.

But right now I really want to take the 8-32×50 Burris Black Diamond from Barak and put it on the .22-250. Not that a .22-250 really needs 32x, but you never know.

I think this stems from the fact that Burris has finally come out with that same scope except with Mil-Dots.

Things to ponder. Your thoughts are welcome.

Oh, and btw, would anyone have an idea of where I could find a Ruger 77 MK I bolt in .223? I’ve already got the chamber insert, but I need the bolt, for those “emergencies” when I’m out of .22-250 but there is 5.56 ammo coming in from everywhere.

They have nothing to fear but public opinion

But the members of the US military services are the public too.

How soon they forget. Or maybe they would like the men and women serving over there to forget?

I first saw this at 4RWW when Raging Dave brought it over from Cold Fury.

The sheets of paper seemed to be everywhere the lawmakers went in the Green Zone, distributed to Iraqi officials, U.S. officials and uniformed military of no particular rank. So when Rep. James P. Moran Jr. (D-Va.) asked a soldier last weekend just what he was holding, the congressman was taken aback to find out.

In the soldier’s hand was a thumbnail biography, distributed before each of the congressmen’s meetings in Baghdad, which let meeting participants such as that soldier know where each of the lawmakers stands on the war. “Moran on Iraq policy,” read one section, going on to cite some the congressman’s most incendiary statements, such as, “This has been the worst foreign policy fiasco in American history.”

The bio of Rep. Ellen O. Tauscher (D-Calif.) – “TAU (rhymes with ‘now’)-sher,” the bio helpfully relates – was no less pointed, even if she once supported the war and has taken heat from liberal Bay Area constituents who remain wary of her position. “Our forces are caught in the middle of an escalating sectarian conflict in Iraq, with no end in sight,” the bio quotes.

“This is beyond parsing. This is being slimed in the Green Zone,” Tauscher said of her bio.

I did not, however, think all that much of it. Just some congressionals whining that there might not be much of a line of people to get their picture taken with. That was until I saw one of the stringers at the uber-leftist FireDogLake blog calling it an “Incitement to Murder”

Looking at this story, is there any way to spin this, other than to think that the Bush Junta is trying to incite the troops in Iraq to frag visiting Democratic members of Congress – or at the very least not be as motivated to keep them safe during their visits?

Is there any way to read that intro without getting the impression that “Phoenix Woman” has her head shoved all the way up her ass with one of her shoulders fighting to get in?

near the close she boldly states that no one else could have done this other than “Team Bush operatives”. She, of course, has no proof of this. But since no one currently serving has the skills necessary to work up a history of politicians voting records and anti-OIF comments, it must have been the ChimpyMcHitlerBurton smear-crew.

I mean, that would take brains, and all the leftists like Phoenix Woman know that you have to be ignant to join the Army.

Especially those who might want support for them and their mission instead of support for the jihadis coming from the mouths of their elected officials.

Oh sure, the FDL’ers will see the trackback and look at this post and and bleat out how much they support the soldiers in harms way

soldiereffigy.jpg

fragpic.jpg

I guess they consider killing the officers more honorable than doing said same to the backstabbing politicos, not that I’m consenting to any murdering of backstabbing politicos, mind you.

But there is no excuse for seeing a conspiracy to murder in the simple act, most likely the simple act of a soldier or group of soldiers currently in theater, to inform and educate their fellows to the snakes in their midst.

With the public opinion tide changing from their favor, they certainly are getting desperate.

Stop, Drop, and Lie

Steve Outing at Editor & Publisher demands that newspaper drop all shadows of objectivity and never again print another words against the Global Warming Death Cult.

Climate Change: Get Over Objectivity, Newspapers

I’ve been thinking a lot about climate change (aka, global warming) a lot lately. (Haven’t you?) Having kids, I’m concerned about what kind of world my generation is leaving them, of course. And I’m mulling over what I can do, to “do my part” (ride my bike to work more; my family bought a hybrid car; teach my kids green habits; etc.).

I’ve also been thinking about the newspaper industry and global warming. And frankly, I don’t think newspapers are doing enough. Indeed, newspapers’ fabled commitment to “objectivity” has been a detriment to efforts to combat global warming.

The industry still has a lot of power to influence people. How about if newspapers abandon their old way of doing things when it comes to the issue of global warming, and turn their influence to good? It just might be that through this issue alone, newspapers revive themselves to some extent. Editors are shirking their responsibility to improve our world, in my view, so let’s change that.

How about if newspapers just stop printing and killing all those trees? That should slow down whatever fantasy Outing believes is important enough to only print pro-Death Cult Propaganda. And while he is at it, he should demand that any and all editors, reporters and journalists who think as he does should kill themselves.

To save the planet, of course.

Updates to the Blogroll

First up, Ahab, formerly of the “What Would John Wayne Do?” blog got hisself some dew digs after running screaming like a grown man from blogsnot. I’m really digging the banner, among other things, so check it out.

Also, yesterday saw M.C. Creekmore drop a line in the comments section about his new place. You probably didn’t see that because I took it off. However, I did go and check-check-it and he looks to have a fine gun blog. Also, I just cannot disagree with a man who loves his unmodified SKS.

Lastly, but not leastly, Glenn B of Ballseye’s Boomers listed me as one of the bloggers he reads everyday, placing me in some very astronomical company. I am suitably and simultaneously impressed and humbled. And to the blogroll he goes.

Added, logged in and made so. Good luck, gentlemen.

Turn your head and cough

John Edwards wants you to go see a doctor. In fact, he’s willing to openly he wants you to pay a fine if you don’t.

Isn’t it lovely how the authoritarian comes out so easily in leftists? How “For Your Own Good” can be made to sound so sinister in their own words?

Protein Wisdom has even helped him out by making up the forms you and your doctor have to file with the federal government. $20 says it ties in with your yearly 1040.

As Craig at MTPolitics said yesterday: Whatever happened to ‘My Body, My Choice’“?
