I know what to call them

There has been a discussion going on for quite some time about how we label the left.

They like “Liberals” because it is happy and sounds like someone you’d want know. While there is some recent history of the label becoming somewhat of an insult and dozens of leftists whining about how their favorite label has been turned in a “dirty word”, and while most thinking folk have figured out that the name is wholly inaccurate and have, for the most part, remembered to not use it any longer, the MSM has kept on helping their side by forgetting that the name is inaccurate and using it regularly.

Myself, I have stuck to using the other label, “progressives”, as often as possible. Mostly because I know the history of the Progressive movement of the early 20th Century and the role it played in setting up both our modern welfare state and European Fascism. But also because it is rather accurate. The leftists believe in government getting progressively more and more powerful and intrusive and think that this is a good thing, because they also believe that the most of what government does is “good”. Sure, there are some some bad things too, but if they put “the right people” in charge, then everything will work out for the best.

/insert the definition of insanity here/

/insert not learning from history quote here/

Sorry about the slash marks there, typing that shit repeatedly gets old after a while. You know the quotes I’m thinking of, right? Then let us move on.

So now the good man, Brian Mickelthwait from Samizdata UK says that the label “progressive” is still too cheerful to let them use or for us to use to label/describe them. I’ll give him that. It is a happy sounding word and most folks would put it in the “sounds like a good idea to me” column.

So now what?

Personally, I like “assholes”, but some folks take objection to that label and you really can’t get that on the radio or television without the FCC or some other governmental agency coming down on you demanding you pay them money for saying a word.

Help a brother out. Leave your answer here or there. There if you actually have a serious answer.

In reference

To yesterday’s post, here is the info

It’s old news on the Internet, but Sunday morning Joseph Wilcox—a concealed-carry permit holder—died as he confronted an armed criminal in a Las Vegas Walmart. A fund has been set up to help pay for his funeral expenses at Wells Fargo bank. To donate to the Joseph R. Wilcox Memorial Fund, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports you use account number 8485852688 at any Wells Fargo bank. Sheriff Doug Gillespie calls Wilcox’s actions heroic in this CNN report

I’m unemployed and I’m sending funds. This guy is already getting bad mouthed in the leftosphere. They had their delisions ruined, they don’t like that.

Of course they are

How can some folks feign surprise at this “revelation”?

They were told repeatedly that this would happen

More patients flocking to ERs under Obamacare

It wasn’t supposed to work this way, but since the Affordable Care Act took effect in January, Norton Hospital has seen its packed emergency room become even more crowded, with about 100 more patients a month.

That 12 percent spike in the number of patients — many of whom aren’t actually facing true emergencies — is spurring the Louisville hospital to convert a waiting room into more exam rooms.

“We’re seeing patients who probably should be seen at our (immediate-care centers),” said Lewis Perkins, the hospital’s vice president of patient care and chief nursing officer. “And we’re seeing this across the system.”

That’s just the opposite of what many people expected under Obamacare, particularly because one of the goals of health reform was to reduce pressure on emergency rooms by expanding Medicaid and giving poor people better access to primary care.

Instead, many hospitals in Kentucky and across the nation are seeing a surge of those newly insured Medicaid patients walking into emergency rooms.

Bad gas? Go to the ER.

Skinned knee? Go to the ER.

When people think something is free, they use more of it. Sadly, more and more of them are finding that it is NOT actually free and are skipping out on these new, unnecessary ER visit bills, leading to more problems for hospitals, and not less.

When you want something done right, the last people you want to ask for help is your government.

Robert Wilcox, RIP

Thank you for stopping the drug-addled, police-ambushing bastards and their murderous rampage in LV.

After the shooting, police say the couple took the officers’ handguns and ammunition and fled across the street to a nearby Walmart. There, police say, Jerad Miller fired off one round and told everyone to get out of the store. At some point he allegedly yelled, “This is a revolution.”

According to police, Walmart shopper Robert Wilcox, 31, was carrying a concealed weapon and confronted Jerad Miller. Wilcox was apparently unaware of Amanda Miller and when he walked by her to confront her husband, she shot him in the rib area.

A shootout with pursuing officers ensued, during which Amanda Miller “took her handgun and fired several rounds into Jerad,” McMahill said. “At that point Amanda took her handgun and ended her life with one gunshot to the head.”

Even though I cannot stand next to you, I will stand with your courageous spirit and will help your family in any way I can.

I can only hope you get some press coverage. The above excerpt was all I could find in the last 24 hours.

Not to aggrivate him

But after reading his latest post, I’ve determined that Scott shouldn’t look at this graphic or follow the link to Zero Hedge and read the post I got it from.

They don’t want to be in the red

Providence, RI is suing the mortgage company Banco Santander SA. They say Santander is red-lining.

Banco Santander SA’s U.S. unit was sued by the city of Providence, Rhode Island, over claims it stopped issuing mortgages in minority neighborhoods after the housing bubble burst, the latest in a series of discrimination lawsuits against lenders by U.S. cities and counties.

Santander Bank, previously named Sovereign Bank, pulled out of the neighborhoods and focused on white communities after being acquired by the Madrid-based lender in 2009, according to a complaint filed today in Providence federal court. The suit seeks millions of dollars in damages.

Providence’s case basically states that this one bank is not lending to people who want to buy a home in certain neighborhoods, which the city is labeling “minority neighborhoods”. The city says that because this one lender isn’t lending to people who want to buy homes in these neighborhoods, that housing prices are stagnant and their incoming property tax revenue is stagnant, and the city’s tax coffers aren’t filling up the way they’d like them to.

You know, I know that the fed is basically giving away money to mortgage lenders to loan out and make profit from lending fees and interest on, but you would have to be a fool to be in the mortgage business. The sheer amount of regulations and bad loans you have to make would flat-out send me to the funny farm in a week.

I don’t like making small loans to friends and relatives, let alone someone with a credit score under 700.

I’d really like to see their evidence to see if they are telling even a smidgeon of the truth or if they are just lying with statistics and hoping to get an ignorant bench.

At it again

Forty-eighth verse, same as the first.

DiFi has introduced yet another firearms confiscation bill. I caught her on the MSNBC morning shows pimping it and probably another half-dozen various bills she has introduced that will all, hopefully, never see daylight in the House of Representatives.

Se went on repeating how her bill honors due process of law, while neglecting to mention that anyone can call you up for confiscation, you do not have to be informed of the hearing to provide for your defense and especially not anything about sending SWAT teams to your house to enforce the order.

Of course, in her sick and twisted mind, each of them is designed to save humanity from itself for its own good. She even has her own Amnesty bill.

Speaking of which, there is a complete blackout on the causation of the problem happening along the border with tens of thousands of children and teens crossing the border, hoping to be interdicted and send to a warehouse, with their advertizement of the D.R.E.A.M. Act legislation.

They claim that advertising works and that that is one of the reasons Capitalism is bad. They then advertise free citizenship in foreign countries and wonder why people show up.

I knew they were racists

But I didn’t know they actually wanted to kill black folks.

Study Suggests It’s More Dangerous For Black Pedestrians To Cross The Street

Now, the study takes place in Portland, OR. Arguably one of the most “progressive” cities in America.

What’s up with all the hate and rage leftists?

Also, I’d like to know the perceived races of all the drivers involved. While Portland is a rather pasty-skinned burg, there isn’t only one race of people living there, and it is kind of relevant if you’re about to accuse people of wanting to run down blacks..

This Week in Welding

Our instructors had to fly off to Chicago to learn how to maintain the new robotic welding trainer apparatus that the school will be getting this summer, so we had a pair of subs come in to make sure we didn’t hurt ourselves in the duration.

They are both highly competent, but they cannot grade our work or move us ahead too far, so I spent much of the week cutting pieces for future practice and then, finally, practice.

Specifically, MIG (GMAW) overhead, direct overhead and vertical. Here are a couple of examples of my vertical work (click to enlarge, of course)

20140605_132439a

My second pass, out of three, cooling.

20140605_133318a

My third pass. Still a little bit too much separation between the layering and one bit of not weaving far enough to the left (typical of me). Not bad for only two days of practice though.

Also, I had a different sub for the fab shop session, so I just did some prep fab for projects I could finish at home.

Three years or so ago, I traded some car parts for an older Warn 8274 winch. It was in a cradle of sorts, but is much too heavy and awkward to be moving around leisurely.

20140607_113859a

Fixed that with some handles and some 2″x2″. Now it mounts to my hitch receiver. When I fab up my front bumper, it too will have a receiver, so I can winch from both ends.

I also welded up a nine inch tall dodecahedron as a gift for someone. It still needs paint and some numbers, so you won’t be seeing that until it is done.

Tuesday I start in on the project I hinted at next week. You should be seeing pics of that later in the week.
