RNS Quote of the Day: 01/15/08

More from yesterday’s subject

I have seen England pass through three or four such critical seasons as I have described; through such seasons the United States will have to pass in the course of the next century, if not of this. How will you pass through them? I heartily wish you a good deliverance. But my reason and my wishes are at war, and 1 cannot help foreboding the worst.

Thomas Babington Macaulay – Letter to Secretary of State Henry S. Randall (1852)

The mas was right. Within 80 years we’d been had.

Warm up those telephones

It seems that our elected representatives didn’t get the message last time

The House passed H.B. 1955 last week. Yes, the same H.B. 1955 I blogged about in December that would label me, myself and YOU as potential domestic terrorists.

899B. FINDINGS.

(3) The Internet has aided in facilitating violent radicalization, ideologically based violence, and the homegrown terrorism process in the United States by providing access to broad and constant streams of terrorist-related propaganda to United States citizens.

When they say “Terrorist-Related Propaganda” they mean that item in the middle of the above banner.

The Senate has their S. 1959 edition of this First Amendment nullifying POS, and they are looking to get it stuffed through their chambers as soon as possible.

The talk on the leftosphere about these bills has been rather scarce, which is odd, since Dennis “Spacemen took my voters” Kucinich was one to both vote against it and talk about why he did so.

This is the link to follow to both call your Senators to tell them to vote against S. 1959 and then to reach out and explain very sweetly and softly to your Representatives just how pissed off you are at them for voting this through.

SCHIP (the Socialist Childrens Health Insurance Plan) makes front page news whenever the bozos in D.C. even hold a hearing about it.

This gets bupkis. Let your fingers do the walking and change that.

Fred’s Latest Endorsements

First, and I believe it to be the most important one, comes from the sports-talking head masquerading as a political pundit, Kieth Olbermann, who labeled Fred as his “Worst Person in the World” on Olbie’s Friday show.

That is a ringing endorsement to me!

Yet another tip that Thompson is the actual, factual “conservative” out for the nomination is that Human Events, the Reaganite “Paper of Record” (unlike the posers at National Review) has endorsed Fred Thompson.

Found at Say Anything

We begin by recalling the profound words of Ronald Reagan at the Conservative Political Action Conference Feb. 15, 1975: “A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency or simply to swell its numbers.” We believed that then, and we believe it now. The issue for us — and for the conservative community — boils down to which of the candidates is most representative of the fundamental conservative principles we believe in. The answer is Fred Thompson.

Fred is surging in SC and is ready for this Saturday’s primary there. Even The Grey Whore has had to open its eyes and recognize.

Fred’s “Gas Tank” is up to nearly $920,000 and all of his Friends, including myself, are donating in the hopes of both attracting new Friends and of getting him over $1 Million. You can watch video of Fred’s interview on Late Edition here.

They want some action

But they won’t want to pay the price.

Yes, I’m talking about prostitutes; Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are prostitutes and they are begging Bush to please let them get their hands on his new economic stimulus package (which sounds a bit disgusting, if I do say so myself).

Sadly for them, this puts Bush on the high ground, and I have a few ideas of just how high they should have to climb to be able to join him at the table when he signs the bill:

First, I’d start with some judicial confirmations. As of yesterday.

Next, since the Federal Elections Commission is now only an “Advisory Board”, also because the lack of confirmations, they need to confirm at least three more persons for that. It is an election year and the Clinton Team is running for a rather high office, so we know the monetary shenanigans will be high.

Thirdly, S. 1959 needs to be bottled up and killed. Also as of yesterday.

I think that that is a good start. Anyone got anything else to add to the list?

PS: I’d also add that they have to stop calling the Repubs “obstructionists” for the rest of the year, but I think it is a bit much to ask Reid and Pelosi to try and pull off.

RNS Quote of the Day: 01/14/08

As I said before, when society has entered on this downward progress, either civilisation or liberty must perish. Either some Caesar or Napoleon will seize the reins of government with a strong hand, and your republic will be as fearfully plundered and laid to waste by the barbarians in the twentieth century as the Roman Empire was in the fifth, with the difference that the Huns and Vandals who ravaged the Roman empire came from without; and that your Huns and Vandals will have been engendered within your own country by your own institutions.

That could have left a mark

One his/her kids would have remembered.

From Postworthy

Yesterday our group went wheeling for a New Years day run. Not long into the ride one of the new Jeep Wranglers went past a fallen tree and a branch that was sticking out hooked the Jeep. The end of the tree broke through the wheel well and almost seriously injured the driver.

The definition of “Almost” perfectly defined in picture form.

These are not Guidelines

These are rules

Craig C. at Protein Wisdom reminds us of the rules for Indoor Golf

  1. Each player shall furnish his own equipment for play, normally one club and two balls.
  2. Play on course must be approved by the owner of the hole.
  3. Unlike outdoor golf, the object is to get the club in the hole and keep the balls out.
  4. For most effective play, the club should have a firm shaft. Course owners are permitted to check shaft stiffness before play begins.
  5. Course owners reserve the right to restrict club length to avoid damage to the hole.
  6. Object of the game is to take as many strokes as necessary until the owner is satisfied play is complete. Failure to do so may result in being denied permission to play again.
  7. It is considered bad form to begin playing the hole immediately upon arrival. Experienced players will normally take time to admire the entire course, paying special attention to well formed mounds and bunkers.
  8. Players are cautioned not to mention other courses they have played or are currently playing to the owner of the course being played. Upset owners have been known to damage a players equipment for this reason.
  9. Players are encouraged to have proper rain gear, just in case.
  10. Players should not assume that the course is in shape to play at all times. Players may be embarrassed if they find the course temporarily under repair. Players are advised to be extremely tactful in this situation. More advanced players will find alternate means of play when this is the case.
  11. Players should assume their match has been properly scheduled particularly when playing a new course for the 1st time. Previous players have been known to become irate if they discover someone else is playing what they considered a private course.
  12. The owner of the course is responsible for the pruning of any bushes, which may reduce the visibility of the hole.
  13. Players are strongly advised to get the owners permission before attempting to play the back nine.
  14. Slow play is encouraged, however, players should be prepared to proceed at a quicker pace at the owners request.
  15. It is considered an outstanding performance, time permitting, to play the same hole several times in one match.

Even a monkey knows

Not to shit where he eats.

Lawrence O’Donnell apparently is dumber than a monkey, since he went and wrote this about John “Lenin” Edwards (D – AquaNet)

John Edwards is a loser. He has won exactly two elections in his life and lost 31. Only one of his wins and all of his losses were in presidential primaries and caucuses. He remains perfectly positioned to continue to lose with a Kucinich-like consistency. Nothing but egomania keeps Edwards in the race now.

If John Edwards stays in the race, he might, in the end, become nothing other than the Southern white man who stood in the way of the black man. And for that, he would deserve a lifetime of liberal condemnation.

And that isn’t even half of it.
There were so many posts on shouting down O’Donnell that I stopped counting after reaching an even dozen. If the name sounds familiar, O’Donnell in the jackass most memorable for shouting down an honorable Vietnam veteran, John O’Neill (unlike Edwards’ fomer running mate) MSNBC’s Scarborough Country.

O’Donnell took a dump in his leftist feedbag (aka:The Huff-a-ton Post) and it didn’t take long for multiple other “Huffers” to pile on

Jane Smiley

When I read Lawrence O’Donnell’s post calling John Edwards a “loser” and threatening a lifetime of infamy if he doesn’t get out of the race, I immediately went to O’Donnell’s bio to see his party affiliation. I was sure it would say “R” — but it didn’t. It didn’t say anything.

However, I am fairly sure in my own mind that Karl Rove paid him to write that post.

And that is why your Marxist ideas should remain fantasies, Ms. Smiley.

I do love me some red-on-red fighting.

Who put the vitamins in Fred Thompson’s oatmeal?

That was the opening line from Cap’n Ed’s debate post last night.

All I can say is that it wasn’t’ me but with that fire Freddy earned himself another $50 on top of today’s already planned donation to his campaign.

Here is Fred visiting gun shops in SC.

Here are Slublog’s links to folks who took part in a conference call with Fred.

On Monday I asked for some of y’all to become a Friend of Fred. CAShane stepped up to the plate and knocked it out.

Today I’m asking for more hitters.

Btw, the Seattle Times seems to have missed the debate and relied on the McClatchy folks’ report. How very not odd that the McClatchy people ignored the big win Fred put on and instead opened up their report with Fuckabee’s statement that he treats his wife as a second class human.

Stay Classy, McClatchy!
