The Wife Disagrees

But I can live with that.

In my opinion, I wholeheartedly believe that the Writer’s strike, and in addition, the subsequent canceling of glitz award shows, are the best thing to happen to America for at least a decade if not more.

She lurrves to watch the celebs come out of their bunkers and show off for the peons. I personally can’t stand them and find a gun that needs cleaning or something.

Just had to get that off the chest.

The Soundboard: Mainstreamer

First it was Skinny Puppy, who were just to hardcore and machinista for the general populace.

Then it was two weeks of Negativland, who were just too damn strange for mass consumption.

Today’s artist has none of these problems. About his only weakness is that he’s just too damn funky.

A white boy who sings like Stevie Wonder and has a band backing him up tighter than The Family Stone, Jamiroquai should have been just hotter than fried grease, but that was not the case. Oh sure, he one hit wondered here in the states, with a minor follow-up track, but the combo was smokin’ and ready for mass production.

Sadly, even with all of his leftist causes detracting from the total points column, he just sort of faded.

Some say overexposure with his one hit. Others say that its because he’s from Down Under.

I don’t know what is to blame, but this guy should have taken the world by storm instead, just like the predictions of hundreds of killer hurricanes, he just sort of went out like a lamb.

I first got a earful of him in 1993 at a local club with his first minor hit

When you gonna learn

All the Mother Gaia worship you can cram in a 3:47 long funk song and still sound serious about both the topic and the funk.

Damn thing should have killed. Hell, the album was titled Emergency on Planet Earth”. The man had AlGore beat by over a decade!

But the world just wasn’t ready for it and it kind of had a dead cat bounce across the mainstream airwaves.

His second album dropped a year later, and I mean dropped like a lead weight. He went for the “Cheeba Cheeba Space Cowboy Vibe” and no one got it.

Two years of touring and tightening followed and Travelling Without Moving hit the shelves and sat there. For a while. Then the video hit MTV and it was like manna from heaven. Dude was dancing on a moving floor. Or was it that the room was moving? It didn’t matter cause he had that funky, fuzzy hat and he and the band killed at the MTV VMA’s.

Guy was everywhere for six months.

My favorite bit of tunage on the album though was the title track

Traveling Without Moving

Not only will it make paraplegics want to get up to get down, but it opens with jay Kay pushing his Lamborghini SE30 Diablo. C’mon, you gots to love that sound. Though the hypocrisy of 9mpg vs. his love of Gaia I can leave behind.

Then nowhere. Massive tour schedule and then Syncronized came to the stores. It sold well, but didn’t take off until Napoleon Dynomite tried to get people to Vote For Pedro.

Bang!

Three more albums have followed with some pretty decent club hits, but no more mainstream attention as of yet, which is too bad.

Still, it makes it so much easier to I can drop dude’s albums on folks who don’t know yet and they get their minds blown.

Enjoy!

Sounds Like Canada to Me

At least to me.

The Dutch government is bracing itself for violent protests following the scheduled broadcast this week of a provocative anti-Muslim film by a radical right-wing politician who has threatened to broadcast images of the Koran being torn up and otherwise desecrated.

Cabinet ministers and officials, fearing a repetition of the crisis sparked by the publication of cartoons of Muhammad in a Danish newspaper two years ago, have held a series of crisis meetings and ordered counter-terrorist services to draw up security plans. Dutch nationals overseas have been asked to register with their embassies and local mayors in the Netherlands have been put on standby.

Geert Wilders, one of nine members of the extremist PVV (Freedom) party in the 150-seat Dutch lower house, has promised that his film will be broadcast – on television or on the internet – whatever the pressure may be. It will, he claims, reveal the Koran as ‘source of inspiration for intolerance, murder and terror’.

Dutch diplomats are already trying to pre-empt international reaction. ‘It is difficult to anticipate the content of the film, but freedom of expression doesn’t mean the right to offend,’ said Maxime Verhagen, the Foreign Minister, who was in Madrid to attend the Alliance of Civilisations, an international forum aimed at reducing tensions between the Islamic world and the West.

Some Gun News

First up, both Ahab and Murdoc the Gun Pundit will be attending this year’s SHOT Show. I’ll be linking to the parts I find appealing to me, but you might find something you like that I missed, so be sure to check in with them.

To Ahab and Murdoc (hopefully you guys will get my trackbacks), you guys should hook up, seeing as how the show is HUGE and difficult for one person to cover without having to run past the booths.

In other news, it seems the gun bigot protest in Virginia was a flop, with the bigots being outnumbered by law abiding citizens who believe in the right to protect themselves three-to-one.

The reason I do not include the gun bigots in the “law abiding citizens” category is because at least one of them broke the law by assaulting a pro-Bill of Rights demonstrator.

You can also find an extensive report with photographic evidence that gun bigots are, in my personal opinion, ugly individuals at Sailor Curt’s blog.

Why the first round of CCW renewals in Ohio are newsworthy is beyond me, but then again I have to remember to get used to scare tactics from the MSM on the subject of CCW.

The Licking County Sheriff’s Office is bracing for an influx of concealed carry license holders seeking renewals in the coming weeks, Sheriff Randy Thorp said.

In 2004 — the first year Ohioans were allowed to carry concealed firearms — 507 licenses were granted, Thorp said.

“It’s a very good possibility that all those folks — I would have to assume that at least a good number — are going to come back in and reapply,” he said.

Since the law’s passage April 8, 2004, Thorp said 1,245 people have received the official blessing of the local sheriff’s office to carry handguns, under certain conditions and restrictions, in public.

Thorp said almost four years in, concealed weapons have not caused any significant problems. He added he has not seen any increase in criminal activity that could be directly related to the permits.

Newark police Sgt. John Brnjic said concealed carry has not posed many problems for his department either, but he added it still makes officers uncomfortable.

When license plates are run before a traffic stop, Brnjic said other units respond when the driver has a CCW permit, just in case.

“The minute you hear ‘CCW,’ officers pay a little bit more attention,” he said.

Why they pay a little more attention, I have no idea, seeing as how the citizens applying for their CCW have to run an administrative obstacle course to get it. But this hit home hard when I read this because, as I’ve stated here in the past, the State of Washington also ties your CCW to your license to drive.

In fact, with just the touch of a button the officer can pull up every pistol you’ve ever purchased through an FFL in Washington State. When you buy a pistol from an FFL in Washington, an extra set of paperwork has to be filled out, with one copy being kept by the FFL, one going to the county the FFL resides in and one copy going to the State.

The State then copies that paperwork into their system and ties that purchase to your driver’s license. Purchasers that hold of out of state licenses not only have this info tied to their license here, Washington will send the info to the license issuing state.

I have contacted the SAF and the CCRKBA about this, and to paraphrase their response, this is a “throw away issue” to them, as they seem to believe that it is either too late or too hard to repair the damage.

The State calls it an “Officer Safety” issue and has refused to stop collecting this info. Which is why I haven’t bought a pistol from an FFL in years and why The State wants to pass legislation to make me go through an FFL when I buy pistols at gunshows.

I think I like this idea

You cause problems and it’ll cost you in Anchorage.

Anchorage police have begun sending bills to people if officers have to make more than eight trips per year to their homes.

The first homeowner to be billed under a law that allows police to charge people got a tab for $23,000 last week.

Police have been called to the home dozens of times since last summer and 10 times so far this year, they said.

An ordinance that took effect in 2002 calls for taxpayers to pay for the first eight police responses to a home in a year. After that, the homeowner may be charged $500 per visit, what police estimate it costs to pay officers and maintain equipment for a single call.

“We’re trying to tell homeowners that if you’re having an excessive amount of calls to your residence, you need to take responsibility for those calls,” said Anchorage police Sgt. Denny Allen. “We’re not encouraging people not to call the police for valid reasons.”

At the Airport Heights home that was billed $23,000, calls were routinely for drugs, alcohol and disturbances, Allen said. Neighbors reported cars coming at all hours of night, with arguments in the yard and drunks urinating in the road.

Police sent the homeowner, Tammy Lynn Miller, 40, a warning notice in August. The calls for service persisted and on Thursday the city sent her the bill, Allen said.

Miller was arrested last week on charges of theft and forgery.

Her home is now boarded up being seized by the bank, Allen said. If she can’t pay the city’s bill, the ordinance calls for liens to be placed against the home until the city collects.

The ordinance does not affect businesses and excludes calls for medical emergencies and domestic violence. False alarms and receipts of false information do not count against a homeowner unless the reports were initiated by the owner or an occupant.

For rental properties, the owner is responsible for either controlling the tenants, evicting them or paying the bill, Tesche said. The police will first send a letter alerting the owner that fees are pending. The owner then has 30 days to correct the situation and halt the calls. After that, they’ll get the bill.

Why some people think they can use the local PD as their personal activity management office is beyond my comprehension. 46 responses to your residence, what this Miller broad’s home received is 45 too many. Hell, one is too many.

Lower my taxes by making the troublemakers pay.

We’ll miss ya, Fred

I’d like to thank everyone who stopped by with the news yesterday.

The wife woke me up to let me know about it right after the announcement. My exact words are difficult for me to remember, but she says that I said “Tuesdays have always been as disappointing as Mondays for me.” before I passed back into the ether-world of dreams.

I really liked Fred Dalton Thompson. He was the first Politician I felt I could maybe, possibly, agree with on more than 75% of the issues. I know that having a beer with him would be a highlight any of us would never forget. Sadly, having a beer with Fred Thompson in the not too distant future is quite probably going to be a whole lot easier than if he’d gotten close to the White House.

Of course, I did always have a fear that having a guy I liked in the Oval Office would make me complacent and lazy, since constant vigilance is impossible if the danger is invisible.

So now that he has announced his withdrawal and has declined to offer an endorsement to any of the other candidates, as well as speak about his unwillingness to show for the Veep slot, I know not of what I’ll be doing on February 19th, Washington’s Primary Day.

I can vote in either of the party’s primaries, and am tempted to grab a Dem ballot and fuck around a bit: I can vote for Hillary, whose negatives are so large, she cannot win a majority in the general (especially if Bloomberg enters the race). Or I can vote for Obama, whom I think is actually the stronger Dem candidate, since he is the lesser evil of the two frontrunners in the party (he has to be since HRC actually IS evil and he is just rotten eggs).

Or I could go for Edwards or Kucinich, the latter of which actually got a majority of the vote in the Island county primary in 2004.

In closing I’d like to thank Fred for swinging the debate to the right a bit, though probably not enough to run past SuperTuesday. I’ll be there for you again, sir, when needed.

I’d also like to post up a number of quotes on the subject from others who said it better than I just did.

Midwesterner @ Samidata

There was a popular meme that Fred didn’t want it badly enough. The emphasis should be on ‘badly’. No, he didn’t sit up, offer his paw and roll over on command. He didn’t heel and he didn’t beg. It is true. He didn’t want to be president badly enough to, well … behave badly. Good for him. No honest and sane person would actually want that job. He offered himself as a candidate but could not bring himself to lie about wanting badly to be president. He did not plot and start his campaign years in advance. Our loss.

Eric @ Classical Values

Those who most want to be president are those who least deserve to be elected. The best presidents are those who are forced or persuaded by others into accepting the job.

All the more reason he would have been a great president.

The whole thing is just a damned shame.

Mountain Man @ The Flashing Light

Well, since Fred has decided to drop out of the race, I don’t know what I’ll do. None of the other candidates are good enough, so it would seem. But November is a long ways away. I think we’ve missed a great chance to push things in the direction of what the founders had in mind.

Fred, I wish you all the best and thank you and your family for trying to make this a better country.

Marc Corallo in this WaPo article

His legacy is one of missed opportunities, broken promises and an unfortunate disdain for the process,” said Corallo. “His legacy is also one of having been the only candidate seeking the Republican nomination who was willing to talk real substance, take a true, consistent conservative approach to every issue, of actually challenging the notion of big government, championing federalism and being honest about the looming entitlement train wreck that is going to bankrupt our kids. He was a lackluster candidate who would have been a great president.

So long, Fred. Not goodbye, just so long.

They’re shocked!

Shocked I tell ya!

To find out that the Clinton’s, yes, to their surprise, both of them, are bald faced liars!

Even John Stewart got in on the action.

And yet, if the DNC and their voting minions prove to be the racists we all know them to be and HRC wins the nomination, they will vote in droves for the pair of them to run the country.

And then there is this quote from an anonymous Clinton staffer that I found at the SayAnything blog

“This is excruciating,” says a member of the Clintons’ circle, who asked for anonymity. “But the stakes couldn’t be higher. It’s worth it to tarnish himself a bit now to win the presidency.”

Wow. Sounds at though it’ll be another “We are The President” moment for a minimum of 4 years.
Yes, the Dems are crazy.

No. Wait. They’re just stupid.

OK, yeah, they’re crazy.

Of course

It starts in California.

Marty Ummel feels she paid too much for her house. So do millions of other people who bought at the peak of the housing boom.

What makes Ummel different is that she is suing her agent, saying it was all his fault.

Ummel claims that the agent hid the information that similar homes in the neighborhood were selling for less because he feared she would back out and he would lose his $30,000 commission.

Real-estate lawyers and brokers say the case, which goes to trial in North County Superior Court on Monday, is likely to be the first of many in which regretful or resentful buyers seek redress from the agents who found them a home and arranged its purchase.

“When your house appreciates $100,000 in the first six months, you’re not quite as concerned that maybe the valuation was $25,000 or $50,000 off,” said Clifford Horner of the law firm Horner & Singer. “But when your house goes down, you ask: ‘Who might have led me astray here?’ ”

That civil jury had better ask for some damn good evidence that her broker cut off her internet connection  and/or duct taped her face and hands before locking her in a closet so that she had no way of looking this info up herself.

This is just like the whole “predatory lender” bullshit currently being yakked about by those in the media. If you’re going to dump a shitload of money down on what will be probably the biggest investment in your life, and you decide to listen to someone you don’t know from Adam and then be too stupid and/or lazy to look shit up yourself and/or spend $500 – 1000 to hire a lawyer to translate the legalese, you deserve to get bent over the tallest rail in town and be gangfucked for every penny you have.

Crowds throwing tomatoes are optional.

What I fear

Almost above all else, is a situation such as this

Portlock residents who saw a deadly police shooting unfold on their “quiet street” are finding it difficult to return to normalcy. The man accused of killing Detective Jarrod Shivers said he had no idea the man he shot was a police officer until it was too late.

Redstart Avenue, a street that dead-ends at a church, still was reeling Friday after a police officer was fatally shot there the night before. The residents say they are in disbelief after realizing that a 28-year-old neighbor is a suspect.

Shivers, a 34-year-old father, was shot as was trying to enter at the house in the street’s 900 block around 8:30 p.m. He and several other officers were there with a search warrant as part of a drug investigation, police said.

Shivers was pronounced dead at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He left behind a wife and three children – ages 2, 8 and 14.

After the shooting, detectives on scene retreated for their safety. The home, which sits in the middle of the block, remained surrounded until the SWAT team arrived and entered.

Police arrested 28-year-old Ryan David Frederick, who lived at the home, and charged him with first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is being held in the Chesapeake City Jail.

Frederick said in a jailhouse interview Friday he had no idea a police officer was on the other side of the door when he opened fire.
Frederick said he was in bed when he heard someone trying to come into the home.

“I thought it was the person who had broken into my house the other day,” he said.

Frederick said his home had been burglarized two or three days earlier.

Frederick’s family could not be reached for comment, and he declined to speak to The Virginian-Pilot.

Police did not say whom they were investigating when they executed the search warrant. Other than a few misdemeanor traffic violations, Frederick has not been convicted of any felony crimes in Chesapeake, according to online court records.

Chesapeake police spokeswoman Christi Golden said she could not comment on specifics of the incident, including whether the officers who tried to serve the narcotics warrant were in uniform.

“They are undercover detectives,” Golden said. As such, they would typically be in street clothes. But, when serving warrants, even undercover officers “usually have something that says ‘police,’” she said. “They are identified in some way, shape or form.”

In the dark, with lots of yelling, a half a dozen guys bust through my door and point firearms at me.

They all die because I sleep with my MBR and they’ve got sub-guns. Walls, doors and vests have no relative stopping ability with 147gr FMJ projectiles. I probably die as well, and with the shooting skill of the average badge-ninja, my dogs and the wife are probably in serious jeopardy too.

But it is their fault and not mine.

Notice how the police department doesn’t mention that it was most likely the wrong house or a bad tip that set the wheels of this in motion. If you go to the link, you’ll also notice that everyone is commenting on and worrying about the officer’s family, not the family who had their door knocked down, their house invaded and their husband/father arrested for first degree murder and put in jail until the offending police agency “sorts it all out”.

One of the reasons I work nights is that if this thing happens, I’ll either be gone or it’ll be daylight. But even the latter factor probably wouldn’t do me a heck of a lot of good.

No-knock warrants need to stop.

Never Again?

Not if Hugo Chavez has anything to do with it.

When two dozen heavily armed policemen came to search the Hebraica community center in the Venezuelan capital one night last month, the Jewish community here finally snapped.

The government officers who entered the sprawling, country club-like complex were ostensibly looking for a stash of weapons and for evidence of “subversive activity.” They found neither. In the subsequent days, the Venezuelan Jewish community’s umbrella organization, the Confederation of Israelite Associations of Venezuela, fired off a statement denouncing the raid as an “unjustifiable act” aimed at creating tensions between the community and the government of socialist President Hugo Chavez.

…..

One of the first points of tension was the April 2002 coup attempt against Chavez. Michael Penfold-Becerra, a political scientist at Caracas’s institute of superior administrative studies, said that among some government officials, suspicions against Jews were fueled by the alleged support of prominent rabbi Pinchas Brenner for the authors of the short-lived coup, as well as by the perception that Israelis and Jews were active in the arms business.

I also wonder if, now that Hugo is ready to confiscate farms, if Jewish owned business will be next?

President Hugo Chavez threatened on Sunday to take over farms or milk plants if owners refuse to sell their milk for domestic consumption and instead seek higher profits abroad or from cheese-makers.

With the country recently facing milk shortages, Chavez said “it’s treason” if farmers deny milk to Venezuelans while selling it across the border in Colombia or for gourmet cheeses.

“In that case the farm must be expropriated,” Chavez said, adding that the government could also take over milk plants and properties of beef producers.

“I’m putting you on alert,” Chavez said. “If there’s a producer that refuses to sell the product … and sells it at a higher price abroad … ministers, find me the proof so it can be expropriated.”

Addressing his Cabinet, he said: “If the army must be brought in, you bring in the army.”

I’ll be keeping a special eye on the leftist site over the next couple days to see just how supportive they are of these maneuvers. They didn’t mind it when he started shutting down the media in the country, and we all know for a fact that it is the American left who are the anti-Semites, so this shouldn’t take too long.

What was that Jonah Goldberg was saying about Liberal Fascism?
