And I’d have gotten away with it too

If it wasn’t for those darn kids and their dog!

Oh, how many times have the dastardly spoken those words? Countless times, to be sure.

And it will continue for the foreseeable future, except that the newly dastardly will not be guilty of scaring old Miss Edna off her farm. Nope, they’ll just be getting busted for not recycling.

Children aged eight enlisted as council snoopers

Children as young as eight have been recruited by councils to “snoop” on their neighbours and report petty offences such as littering, the Daily Telegraph can disclose.

The youngsters are among almost 5,000 residents who in some cases are being offered £500 rewards if they provide evidence of minor infractions.

One in six councils contacted by the Telegraph said they had signed up teams of “environment volunteers” who are being encouraged to photograph or video neighbours guilty of dog fouling, littering or “bin crimes”.

The “covert human intelligence sources”, as some local authorities describe them, are also being asked to pass on the names of neighbours they believe to be responsible, or take down their number-plates.

“Covert Human Intelligence Sources”?

Holy farts in a jar! They gone and deputized the neighborhood yobs-in-training.

Just how long do you think it will be before one of these snot-nosed pukes sets up an extortion racket on his block?

Though, I must say, if they’re wanting them to write down license plates, they will first have to teach them how write.

It is hard to believe they got away with it

CNN came out with their “Top 100 Best Places to Live” list and you won’t believe one of the criteria:

Screen out retirement-oriented communities, places where income is less than 90% or more than 180% of the state median and neighborhoods that are more than 95% non-white.

Yeah. Wow. Me too.

Except that that isn’t actually true. They actually excluded towns that were more than 95% white. Because to CNN, a city’s diversity is more important than it’s crime rate or education statistics.

This’ll be entertaining

Freak on freak courtroom hijinks. I just wish they’d sell tickets.

Trial is starting in Olympia in the lawsuit brought by the Ramtha School founder JZ Knight against another spiritual teacher called WhiteWind Weaver.

In the trial on today’s calendar in Thurston County Superior Court, the Ramtha school in Yelm school accuses Weaver of using some of its teachings in her classes at Rainier.

Knight says she channels the spirit of an ancient warrior named Ramtha. Weaver attended a Ramtha seminar and signed a contract agreeing not to use the teachings for her own commercial purposes.

“You sole my schtick!”

“No I didn’t! I made this crap up all by myself!”

One thing not too widely known, the Ramtha folks have a compund in a little town called Yelm, and they have full-auto weapons for their security folk. I don’t know how they got it swung, possibly through some slight-of-cash work to a previous governor, but they are serious about keeping those they don’t want inside the compound, out.

For Wide Distribution

While in Montana a couple weeks back, I was looking through a local newspaper, The Helena Independent Record, and saw numerous Letters to the Editor filled with supposed disgust for the NRA on the topic of Obama’s stance on the 2nd Amendment. The writers of these letters claimed that the facts made Obama look much worse than he actually is on the topic.

Now that he has chosen Joe “My Mouth is an Assault Weapon” Biden for his running mate, creating the most anti-Second Amendment Democratic Party ticket in history, everyone should be able to guess which way he will push if elected.

But for those who just don’t want to keep up with the facts of the matter, show them this video I found via Countertop

Obama talks about hope. But “hope” that the police will arrive in time to protect my life or the lives of those I love is not the kind of “hope” and “change” I want in my life.

RNS Quote of the Day: 09/08/08

I loved this one from over the weekend

You must understand printing lies about Republican candidates is OK. It’s called “vetting.” Printing the truth about liberals – that’s called “swift-boating.”

Howie Carr – Boston Herald

Proof: Ultra-leftist hate site, the inappropriately named AmericaBlog, had one of their sycophants get lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time during a McCain-Palin photo-op stop this weekend in Albuquerque, NM.

Questions were asked by the putz. Stupid questions, but questions nonetheless.

And of course Aravosis and the rest of the herd gave big ups to the putz.

Now, if it had been the other way around and a person from the rightosphere had just happened to have been in a restaurant where the Obama/Biden bus had stopped, and said fellow had asked an unscripted question of the Messiah, it would have led to a full fledged Instant Action Report issuance asking how the “reichwingers” had gotten their filthy hands on the Obama/Biden schedule and if there should be a search for a mole in the campaign.

And heaven forbid if the guy or gal had been legally carrying a concealed pistol. The left would have blown it up into a full fledged assassination conspiracy.

Lights Out

What with all the hurricane happenings, The Puppy Blender posted up this link to Popular Mechanics about the use of portable generators. Very handy, with plenty of other good links to follow.

On that same note, our good man, The Heartless Libertarian, being stationed at Ft. Bragg and facing down Hurricane Hanna, had to go through his disaster prep list knowing that the Army was sending him elsewhere for the duration, leaving his wife and children to hold it down.

Key quote: “Make sure disaster plan can be executed with just one adult.”

Now, Mrs. Heartless Libertarian is no shrinking violet, and I’m sure he had all confidence in her, but I’m posting this to make sure that everyone keeps this in mind.

As I repeat over and over in the By Ourselves, For Ourselves SHTF series, unless you are a hermit, there is a greater than 50% chance that you will be away from home when the feces is forcibly rotated.

Make sure that your spousal unit and youngins know the drills. They also need to know that your first priority will be to get home to them and that their completion of the set tasks will make your return less mentally harrowing.

Oh Fun!

Not exactly the first words out of my mouth when I heard this news.

Though the the word “fun” does share the first two letters with the word I did say.

EPA to set rules for lawn, boat engines

The Environmental Protection Agency unveiled sweeping regulations limiting emissions from small engines in lawn mowers and boats Thursday — requiring that most small engines have catalytic converters.

The new regulation applies to lawn mowers with a 25-horsepower engine or smaller and will reduce smog-forming emissions by 35 percent. Recreational boats will see a 70 percent reduction in evaporated fuel and NOx emissions.

At what I’m sure will be no extra cost to consumers. Yeah, right.

I just hope that while the manufacturers are at it, they make the necessary mods to fix this problem

Mechanics see ethanol damaging small engines

Although the Web is rife with complaints from car owners who say ethanol damaged their engines, ethanol producers and automakers say it’s safe to use in cars. But smaller engines — the two-cycle utility engines in lawnmowers, chain saws and outboard boat motors — are another story.

Benjamin Mallisham, owner of a lawnmower repair shop in Tuscaloosa, Ala., said at least 40 percent of the lawnmower engines he repairs these days have been damaged by ethanol.

“When you put that ethanol in here, it eats up the insides or rusts them out,” Mallisham said. “All the rubber gaskets and parts — it eats those up.”

While on vacation in Montana I had my check engine light pop on. Montana has a shitload and a half of ethanol in their fuels per state mandate. Seeing as how the truck was running fine. And knowing that it doesn’t like ethanol blended fuels, and that I was very near the continental divide in vehicle that normally operates at sea level, I ignored it.

Sure enough, I got back into Washington State (Spokane, to be exact) and filled up with a nominally blended fuel, and the light went out within five miles.

Ethanol is a form of alcohol. Alcohol is murder on engines of any type. Even those E85 engines which are supposedly “built” for it.

This ethanol nonsense needs to stop. If for no other reason than to save my wife from worrying about the numerous ways our transportation could leave us stranded in BFE for 300 miles.

The oldest sales pitch in history

If prostitution is the world’s oldest profession, then using sex to sell a product is the world’s oldest marketing plan.

And leave it to the EU to want to stop it

MEPs want TV regulators in the EU to set guidelines which would see the end of anything deemed to portray women as sex objects or reinforce gender stereotypes.

This could potentially mean an end to attractive women advertising perfume, housewives in the kitchen or men doing DIY.

Such classic adverts as the Diet Coke commercial featuring the bare-chested builder, or Wonderbra’s “Hello Boys” featuring model Eva Herzigova would have been banned.

The new rules come in a report by the EU’s women’s rights committee.

So I take it that this Cadillac commercial w/Kate Walsh would be completely out of bounds

After all, it mentions things like shoes and gossip magazines.

Spared?

I know that LAT writer, Barbara Demick, actually is in Bejing, but I don’t think that the language is involuntary

The Americans are doing it again, mystifying the masses here with their weird, weird presidential elections.

To the Chinese, who are spared by the one-party Communist system of such complications as electoral colleges and party caucuses, the spectacle unfolding in the United States is not a very tempting advertisement for democracy.

Yes, why bother the people with selecting the leaders of their country? It is such a burden to have to come down on one side of an issue.

The next few paragraphs show that the Chinese official news bureau is rather exactly like our MSM: Fake photos, bullshit pregnancy stories, biased photos with poor captions and no context, etc..

Stranger than fiction, indeed.

Sweet Stock

I’ve often thought about getting a couple of M1 Carbines from CMP, maybe even rechambering one in 7-30 Waters. But they’re so butt-ugly I just couldn’t stomach buying one.

Not anymore! This is pretty cool:
